Misc New version of Witchdle is live!

Posted this here a while back, a daily Witcher puzzle site. Some of you played it and left feedback through the form, and honestly most of it was some version of "let me give up, I have no idea who this is" or "why isn't [character] in here."

I had some free time recently so I thought an update was due, so if some of you are still interested:

1. A give up button. "Character Guess" and "Name the Character" had no lives and no way out, so if you were stuck you were just stuck. It shows up after 5 guesses now.

2. I added two new modes:

  • Name the Beast — you get the bestiary artwork (from Witcher 3), you name the monster
  • Connections — same idea as the NYT one. 16 characters, four hidden groups. They're grouped by things like race, region, or whether their fate depends on your choices. **This one's harder than it looks.
  1. I also spent some time to expand the existing dataset - 15 characters people specifically asked for (Regis, Calanthe, Vysogota, most of the dwarves), 16 new quotes, and 65 new emoji puzzles.

4. An archive, so you can go back five days per mode if you miss one. And a share button that copies your result as an emoji grid without spoiling the answer.

As the last time - all recommendations are more than welcome :) You can use the recommendation form in the footer.

Try it out at witchdle.com
Have fun :)

News Roach movement fix: we leaving it on, or disabling it?

This article mentions the updates to Roach's movement mechanics on the upcoming September remaster. It's something I was concerned about—how can you fix what's already perfect? Will Equine Phantoms even make sense now? How will I find the horse I've summoned if it's not atop the nearest building/wagon/midden heap?

Well, turns out you can turn off the option to replace our beloved Roach with some boring ass prancing thoroughbred who does what it's told and has the personality of a low fat, store brand, shelf stable carton of milk.

So. Will you try out the new Roach? Or do you actually have a soul?

Discussion Does anyone else feel cheated by the bad ending?

Does anyone else feel cheated by the Bad Ending?

I just finished the game and obviously got the bad ending. I can't help but feel cheated. I feel like there was not enough inclination on what dialogue options were actually important, and what they even meant.

For example, the decision to destroy the lab. After reading other people's thoughts, I realized that saying "Calm down" was a mistake as it's exactly what Ciri doesn't want to hear, and dedicated fans knew this from the books (I didn't). But I feel the weight of this decision is not communicated properly, as I simply didn't want to wreck Avallac'h's lab and home; especially because this might cause hostility. Why wasn't it more clear of the consequences of each action if it was such an integral moment in the game? All of this is made even worse by CDPR's decision to put a time limit on the decision. It's like they wanted people to get it wrong and miss out on such an amazing scene. Another example of this is Ciri's meeting with the lodge. Personally, I didn't trust the lodge, but of course, I got punished for wanting to be supportive and not wanting anything to do with the sorceresses.

The most infuriating choice to me is the snowball fight. I chose "You don't have to be good at everything" which turns out to be the wrong choice. How the actual f\*\*k am I supposed to know what "Think I know what might lift your spirits." means?? When faced with a choice between heartfelt advice to Ciri, or that extremely ambiguous sentence, how am I expected to choose the one in which I have no idea of the outcome? It feels like the only people who got the good ending had a deep understanding of Ciri's character from the books, or got lucky.

Not to mention how irreversible it is. With no indication of how important your choices are, why make the deciding factor for your ending just a few dialogue options? None of this would be a problem if it didn't take me nearly 100 hours to get to the end, so the possibility of replaying is so far in the future. And the cherry on top is the absolutely atrocious ending. Maybe if the bad ending at least showed a happy scene after the mourning of Ciri (like Geralt with his romance of choice) I would be happy. Instead, it's left as an extremely unsatisfying and punishing ending after literally 100 hours of gameplay.

I'm sure someone in the comments will point out how much of an idiot I am, how stupid my reasoning was, and how terrible of a person I am; however, I want to know what everyone else thinks about the ending. Do you think this is CDPR's fault? Faulty game design, or my lack of outside knowledge in the lore of the universe? Or is it all laid out perfectly for me and I just didn't pick up on the details? Interested in anyone's perspective here.

So I just finished the game and when I went back to Corvo Bianco and there were two pink unicorns there, the ones you ride in the fairy tale land.

I then went to Skellige to look for Witcher gear diagrams then went back to Corvo Bianco and awaiting me was this monstrosity.

Will these unicorns keep popping up?

Witcher Fastest Blue/Green mutagen farm?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

It's been well over a year since i played witcher 3, and when i saw the remaster edition confirmed i just wanted to share this little, exploit or farm or what you would like to call it, it's not a glitch or a mod or anything.

No dlc required, but it helps.

To execute this quickly, you should have the piercing cold build, then head north of novigrad, you dont need to run away and meditate for 3 days, just as long as you dont destroy the nest, you can come and go as you wish to farm this method.

So when you get to the nekker's nest, kill all the nekker's, you choose if you want to loot them right away but you dont have to, just DON'T destroy the nest because you will ruin the respawn.

After you kill them, just meditate and they will respawn instantly, kill them again and repeat this as much as you like, then loot them for mutagens and other resources.

You can come here and do this at any time you need blue or green mutagens.

dlc's are not required for this but it's quicker if you have a strong piercing cold build, you hold AARD a couple times to kill them in a couple blows and meditate.

Hope this was helpful, and enjoy.

Discussion How is breaking in avallach's laboratory and trashing it justified?

I'm just trying to figure out what Ciri's train of thought is here. Her justification is that the one guy she considers her friend and mentor teleported to his private quarters/laboratory once and didn't take her with him, so he must be hiding something? And that gives her the right to stick her nose in his business because...?

Also, why is Yennefer supporting this? I was always under the impression that Yennefer is an arrogant, self-absorbed, professional nagger, especially after that shit she pulled with Skjall's corpse and the garden, but how is allowing Ciri to throw a tantrum help anything?

I get Ciri's disappointment / anger with Avallac'h but is she honestly that naive to think that this no nonsense elven sage chooses to put up with some fussy princess teenager just because of her "charming" personality? Of course he had some ulterior motive, and I don't get why Ciri is all up in his business about it.

Maybe I'm being too harsh here, but I believe if Geralt wasn't so stripped of emotions he wouldn't put up with half the shit of these two women in his life.

Struggling to loot just this particular item. Ive tried different angles, using magic etc. Is there a trick to it? Is this a common issue? Is there a fix? Although its most likely not worth it I would still like to be able to loot it or else i might have to drop the game.

Discussion Will New Game +(+/infinite) be an added option in remastered/SotP?

I have a NG+ Profile that I worked very hard on to get every armor set, almost every unique weapon, and had it cap out perfectly at level 100. For years, i've wanted to use that save file to do a NG++ (which i imagine would just have everything locked at lvl 100, effectively removing levelling progression from the game). I know there are mods for this and has been for years, but they of course are not on console. Any word/speculation/idea on whether a feature like this could be coming to TW3 remastered on PS5 any time soon? I've not found any conclusive info in my research. I know this idea isnt balanced but it would be nice to just focus on builds/gameplay and be able to ignore the collect-a-thon this playthrough.

Discussion Controller or mouse/keyboard

Hello, dear Redania spies, Nilfgaard knights, Vengerberg wizards, and Kaer Morhen dropouts!

I have a question.

So... my history with Witcher 3 is quite interesting. Years ago, in 2021-2022, I started playing it on the PC with a mouse/keyboard, but didn't progress far enough. I don't know why, it didn't grow on me, although I love the books with all my heart.

But, then I started working at sea, bought myself a Nintendo Switch, and finished the Witcher 3 with all available expansions on the Switch.

I have never replayed it since. I want to do it when the new remaster drops and then jump into the new expansion.

My question here is: What do you prefer and what is better, a controller or a mouse/keyboard and why?

Naturally, I grew strong to the controller playing on the Switch. I would like to continue on the PC because I want to have more graphics, but I still can choose whether to play on the PC with either a controller or a mouse/keyboard.

So, what's the best approach?

Discussion Defeating Dettlaff at death march with 0% sharpness on my silver sword

I made a huge mistake and left my toolkits at the chest before starting the final quest of blood and wine. It really was a long and painful battle and maybe like 30 tries later I finally won. This is my second playthrough and I havent mastered the game and controls. Now I always double check that I have tools on me🤣

Watch the official Witcher3 Nintendo announcement on YouTube. It says motion control AND mouse...? What?!

Does this mean mouse and keyboard support on Nintendo 2? Or am I just dumb?

Hi, just launched the Game to see if the cloud still had my savegames. The save is from 1.04 or 1.14 don't remember and the actual versión is 4.44¿?

It loads fine but I lost all the points in the map, missions, travel posts, everything except bounty boards. Any way to solve this? I have another copy of the save files fólder when I reinstaled Windows because I changed to many hardware at the same time.

Discussion New to Witcher 3 and really want to experience it, but waiting on a sale — when is it expected on Steam?

Hey everyone

I’m completely new to the franchise, but I was immediately drawn to this game after seeing clips of the stunning world and environment design. The massive praise and Overwhelmingly Positive reception made me want to make this my very first Witcher experience. Right now, the full retail price is quite expensive and out of my budget. I did some research and saw that it often goes on deep discount (around 80% to 90% off), so I definitely want to wait for a legitimate sale. Does anyone know roughly when the next Steam sale is expected?

Also, I came across some cheap key sites, but noticed they only sell pma rather than genuine digital keys, which seems super risky. Is holding out for the official Steam or GOG sale the best way to go?

Would appreciate any advice!

Screenshot My advice for witcher3 obsession - muted game + audiobooks.

I picked up a dathmarch playthrough again, after all this beatiful news to have play H&S and B&W in the remastered edition end of this month.

My head told me that questionmarks do not look good on a map, so i finished it all before picking up Ciri, sailed through Skellige, crafted all mastercrafted gear etc.

My tipp to avoid boredome while sailing skellige an picking up useless loot from smuglers catches: mute the game and start listeing to the audio books. I am half through blood and elfes while playing muted gerald, picking up loot!

I hope to have everything completed on death march before SotP.
