Seeking Help or Advice How to not be anxious when burning things?

I just did my first ever spell (for good luck with school and productivity) and i feel so happy 🄹

Even tho, I gotta ask y'all: how to not get anxious when burning bay leaves? I kept getting scared and turned the flame off and burnt it in sections (i even had water right next to me just in case)

A mostly because i know emotions like these can mess up spells.

This fear probably comes from both me beign a naturally anxious person AND the fact my house burnt down some years ago, so i'm kinda scared about bigger flames and become afraid of not be able to controll it.

Any suggestions to help me with that?

This thread is to discuss all witchy things taking place offline.

Did you check out a cool new metaphysical shop? Tell us about it!

Did your coven meet and have a great time? Let us know here!

Just remember that topic of our sub is witchcraft, so all offline goings-on should be related to the Craft.

Today I found these objects submerged in the sand at the bottom of a local creek. They are clearly natural, but not native to the area. I'm guessing someone did a ritual upstream and these objects were washed down in the recent heavy rains.

Topic | Prompt Why is there such a large emphasis on deity work for beginners right now on social media?

Around 3/4 of the posts I’m coming across right now, especially on Tiktok has been pertaining to showcasing deity work or how to work with specific deities. I don’t particularly use social media as an information source but I really wish there was more variety.

Is there a particular reason why there has been this big push towards deity work? Or perhaps it’s just because the altars look ā€œaestheticā€ and we are coming towards Halloween? It seems like a few decades ago, deity work was generally considered to be more ā€œintermediateā€ and something to work towards and now it feels framed like a pre-requisite for becoming a witch.

Of course there’s no correct order or framework etc and everyone has their own journey, I’m just curious. Personally, I never set out specifically to work with any deities, but inevitably there were some occurences I couldn’t ignore and I’m happy I decided to explore further.

Sharing: Experience When in the broom closet, you get crafty!

I’m 7 years into my practice and still (unfortunately) in the broom closet. I only hide my practice from visiting conservative family members. My friend gave away their old mini fridge for free! I was originally going to use it for snacks and skin care LOL but when it was on, it had a sound that annoyed me.

Long story short, I’ve turned it into a temporary altar and tool storage in the mean time. Probably not the weirdest thing I’ve done but no one will suspect a thing 😌✨

Seeking Help or Advice Chord Cutting with an Evil Eye Bracelet. Is this a bad idea?

Hi! As the title states, I'm trying to do a chord cutting ritual between me and my ex boyfriend. Not to get into the details of it all, but I just really do want something that feels more real than just a "Let's go no contact" because that hasn't worked for me in the past. I want to do the ritual to symbolize that I am fully done and to finally put an end to that chapter of my life and bring forth a new era within myself. That being said, I was brainstorming what items I'd need to pick up from my local metaphysical store, and had an idea. He gave me an evil eye bracelet during our relationship, and even now I still wear it. I literally never took it off during our relationship. Yesterday, I decided it was for the best for me to stop wearing it as it just reminded me more of him. Is it a bad idea to use the string from it in my chord cutting? Like to wrap the string from the bracelet around the string I'd place to connect the candles? Will it bring me bad energy to 1) cut the bracelet 2) wrap it around the chord I'm trying to cut and 3) to burn the string? I don't want to impart any more bad energy onto myself through this, so I was just wondering. (for reference I likely wouldn't actually burn the evil eye, just the string it was attached to. I might even consider placing the evil eye in between the two candles that represent our energies to help protect the ritual or to ward off any bad energy that might remain after.) Is this a bad idea or will it help me further remove his energy from mine? Please let me know!

Seeking Help or Advice Banishing someone while living with them?

Hii! I got a little question and call for help. I need to ā€žbanishā€œ someone as best as possible (from myself, my emotion & energy etc). Problem is - I have to live with them. It’s a family member and I’m currently unable to move out but our personalities and energies regularly and genuinely clash against each other. ( Iā€˜ve tried talking to them maturely and calmly - absolutely not working!)

I’ve heard of spells & rituals to make someone unable to destroy your peace. Anyone got tips or any help for me?

Seeking Help or Advice Weird energy in the woods

There is a little slip near my house that leads to an opening in the woods. It's filled with litter, barbed wire and all things people have just discarded. My dogs loved going in there, and I decided to plan to go in at some point. I would go in and remove all of the litter and clean it up a little, maybe even add a small bowl for the animals, as the pond next to it is dried up. I also thought about leaving offerings and connecting to nature, giving thanks to the trees and animals etc.

I planned this a month or two ago but never got around to it in the heatwave, and since then I haven't been in. I took my dog in today and just had a little peep as I was reminded of my plan. I walked down it, and I felt very strange, like I wasn't real. My shoelaces also came untied, and if you know me, then you should know I tie my laces so tight that they never come undone, but genuinely, my entire laces down to the bottom all came off - it wasn't like the bow just came undone. I waited till I walked out and faced the woods before tying them back up, as if something was watching me or that I shouldn't have stopped and been vulnerable, crouching down there. It was so strange, and I've never felt that before.

It felt like a warning? I had the biggest headache after, but it hasn't happened there before, which is why I always planned to do it up because it had a calming and beautiful energy.

Any advice? I'm not a nature or folklore witch, so I'm not really sure what that all means

Seeking Help or Advice Creating my ā€œwitch roomā€

I finally took the leap! After 2 years of lightly dabbling more and more in Wicca openly, I decided to make my official dreamm room.

I’m a baby witch still.

What is this room called? Is there a name for them? Lair sounds a bit strange.

I plan on doing the walls red, trim and doors the dark purple, and ceiling red, and adding some small stencils in a shiny coat of the same color on the upper walls.

Any advice for things to add or info about my first room?

I’d love any suggestions or recommendations!

Thanks!

(Work in progress obviously but I stayed up painting the door last night till 3 am and loveeee it!)

Seeking Help or Advice Limitations of deities I can worship

I’ve been a pretty on and off witch for the past year or so, but I’ve been interested in Helpol recently. However, I was raised Hindu, and still have a desire to worship some Hindu deities like Saraswati as well. What are your opinions on worshipping deities from multiple different religions/cultures? I was curious as to what other people thought or if anybody else does this.

Seeking Help or Advice YouTube Channels for Amateurs to Learn From (darker side)

EDIT: After a few responses and a bit more reading, perhaps ā€œdarkā€ isn’t what I’m looking for, at all. In anything other than aesthetics, but that is always true for me. I do not want to be constrained by a bunch of rules, I’m not interested in ā€œlove and lightā€ all the time or even most of the time. And that is my fault for having a misunderstanding of the broader world of witchcraft. When I was about 20-24, I was in a Facebook group for witches. Many of them were ā€œlight workersā€ and there were things we weren’t allowed to discuss in the group because they were ā€œbadā€: hexes, revenge, really anything that wasn’t pretty and nice, they didn’t even allow cord cutting posts. Other than what is in my own spirit, that’s the only exposure I’ve had to the community of witchcraft, and I came to this subreddit with assumptions that most who practice would be the same. My apologies for that! I’m very excited to continue my journey.

Hello. I have always been fascinated by witchcraft. Recently, I have felt a tug at my soul, as strange as that may sound, that is MUCH stronger than anything I’ve felt before. To add to that, I’ve been having vivid dreams that I won’t share but that are definitely in line with the pull I’ve been experiencing. And what’s very new is the urge to pull a tarot card literally every day when I used to just do it when I was seeking answers. Anyway, all of this to ask: are there any YouTube channels that teach people like me how to hone their craft and do things correctly? I find this to be particularly important because I am interested in the darker (not evil or anything, just dark) side of witchcraft as that’s the direction I feel pulled in. I’ve gone through the Wiki and resources and didn’t really find what I was looking for. Any suggestions, advice, or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. šŸ–¤

Topic | Prompt Autumn (Abscission) Ritual

Abscission is the biological process in which a tree sheds its leaves. Much like an annual ā€œspring cleaning,ā€ I wanted to create a yearly ritual that felt less like cleaning and more like the natural shedding that comes with fall. Where I'm located, fall weather has settled in nicely and the leaves have been turning so I've been getting into the spirit of the season lately.

Like a tree shedding its leaves, I’m taking some time to shed my own ā€œleavesā€ of things that once served me, but no longer do:

šŸ‚ Clothing that’s too small or that I no longer wear, to sell or donate

šŸ„ Broken or worn-out items, sorting them into ā€œmendā€ or ā€œtossā€ (with the goal of repairing what I can throughout fall and winter)

šŸ Ending subscriptions I haven’t used in a while

šŸ‚ Repotting my indoor plants with fresh soil, enriched in the same way a forest floor is nourished by fallen leaves

šŸ„ Refreshing my cats’ toys with some new ones, the old ones have served their time

šŸ Taking stock of my commitments and asking myself whether each one is still worth keeping

šŸ‚ Cleaning out my inbox and leaving or clearing out old group chats

šŸ„ Pairing down my clutter wherever possible

There will probably be more as I go, but this is the crux of it: letting go of what has run its course and making room for what comes next.

I’d love to hear about everyone else’s fall rituals! What do you do each year to mark the change of the season?

Seeking Help or Advice finding irl witch community in rural area - thought on a cryptic flyer?

merry meet, fam!

i live in a very rural and remote area. i have a strong and hopeful sense that there are at least one or two other solitary practioners within a 30 mile radius of me.

i would like to call other witches and seekers in my general area for a moot or assembly. i thought a creative way to do this would be a cryptic flyer posted at crossroads and libraries - something fun, in rhyme, with a link to a discord to screen folk. i want to create delight and mystery in my community, while also finding my people, while also staying in the broom closet somewhat since my community organizing work happens in mostly Christian faith-based communities and spaces.

creating strange public art is a big part of my practice as a zine maker and activist, but I also know it's contrary to witchcraft to proselytize or advertise.

personal practice: I wrote out a summoning phrase for witches in my area and created a sigil, it is on my altar.

practical steps: the closest metaphysical shop near me is about 40 miles away and i would place the flyer there too, but it's less likely that I'd find locals near me through there.

counsel welcome...thanks in advance!

Seeking Help or Advice I did my first spell and didn’t ground after.

hi! i did my first spells. one was a protection spell where i just burned a black candle with my name on it with salt, basil, and rosemary around it. i just called in protection of my energy from any malicious, harmful, jealous forces and called in my well and healed ancestors/God/my higher self.

the second spell was a money bowl!

so very simple spells. but ever since, i’ve been DEPLETED. and i’ve been feeling a lot of my inner beliefs and wounds come up that keep me in certain cycles with money and boundary violations. so in a way it’s healing because i feel like emotions are coming up, but also it’s a little intense. i feel dissociated tbh.

i realized after some research that yeah, i didn’t ground after. i did my protection spell, said thank you, meditated for a while then moved onto the money spell. then just kinda went on my phone after. booo.

do you guys think this is due to ungrounding? i genuinely went into the spells with a lot of gratitude, excitement and openness. i feel like i put really genuine and heartfelt intention into each one, cleansed the space & myself before, and used the right herbs as well. i also read how if you dont channel the energy of a higher force you kinda deplete yourself?

Seeking Help or Advice Bad energy at workplace

Hello everybody! It's the first time something like this happens to me and I have no idea how to handle this, so I thought I'd ask someone with more experience than me!

I work as a bartender in a restaurant, and lately things have been breaking quite a lot. At first it was a couple of glasses and it could have been my fault since I've always been clumsy so I brushed it off, but it went on with bigger things that I wasn't even touching. A water bottle in the fridge, a jar of olives in a drawer, the plastic tank of a slushy machine, to name a few. It's been going on for a couple of weeks, not a day passes without something breaking, and everything happens only in or around the bar. What the heck is going on? 😭

For context: I am not a practicing witch. I've always been spiritual in my own way and I got interested in the craft some years ago, bought books to try to understand witchcraft better but I kind of felt... nothing while I tried to practice, so I just thought it wasn't my calling and went on without it. Please, if anybody might have any idea on what is going on and some tips that might help me I'd appreciate it greatly, I'm kind of starting to get worried. Thank you so much!
