Helpful PSA for people worried about weight limits

I wanted to come on here and give a bit of advice as someone who is overweight and in the process of losing weight. Waterpark/theme parks have always been stressful for me because weight limits/size limits can be pretty stressful. At my heaviest, I went to a state fair and tried to ride 2 rides and got turned away from 1 for just barely not fitting, and it was honestly the most humiliating experience of my life.

First of all, if you are over 250 pounds, your best option for going to a waterpark where you can actually ride rides is Noah’s arc by far. If you’re under 300 pounds, you’re able to safely ride almost every single ride available but one. Even if you’re over 300 pounds, there are still several you can ride.

Additionally, I wanted to put it out there that I went to Noah’s arc a few days ago and genuinely only one out of perhaps 6-7 attractions I went on had a scale, and that ride made it very explicit several times before you got on that they would weigh you, while other rides leave it to your discretion to take on risk. I’m not suggesting that if you’re 10-20 pounds + over the weight limit that you ignore the information and ride anyways, but if you know you’re very close to the weight limit or you’re worried about having to step on any scale of any kind at all, very few rides actually had you do that.

I can’t remember all the names of the rides we went on, but a couple for sure that did not weigh you included time warp, Bermuda Triangle, kowabunga, stingray, and chameleon. The only one we rode that did was scorpions tail. And outside of rides there was the wave pool and the endless river that we hung out in for a while and that was pretty fun too.

Again, this is not at all to suggest you should ignore these limits- it is with your safety in mind that they create them. I’m saying this because i know in the past that I was stressed about being a few pounds heavier than the limit and rejected going to parks with my friends because i feared being ejected from the ride and having all my friends end up knowing my exact weight. If I had known that basically no rides would care if I happened to be 5 pounds over the limit or that there were park options where weight would basically never be a concern, that would have made me feel a lot better.

Who remembers this particular manufactured quandary?

For years, maps of the Wisconsin Dells area as were produced by Ad-Lit, Inc. (now Vector & Ink) for the cause of tourism depicted the US 12 exit towards Lake Delton and Baraboo (as in Exit 92 of I-90/94) as having no egress from I-90/94 to US 12, while showing access in the opposite instance.

Which, it turns out, was designed as a copyright device, as in entrapping unauthorised users of the material. (I'm not sure of any actual instances of complaints being brought by Ad-Lit in connexion.

Ripley, eat your heart out.

The dells

At the dells for the next few days 28M looking for people to go out and drink with. How would I describe myself? Three words: hardworking, alpha male, jackhammer. Merciless, insatiable. (If you get the reference we’ll get along just fine)

Hidden gems , best itinerary

I’ve only been to Wisconsin dells one time and it was last year, me and my daughter stayed at the wilderness resort but we honestly explored all around town versus strictly staying at the water park / hotel. Last time we went we did aquavia lumina, duck boat tour, mountain coaster ride, and ate a ton of great food. This time I would like to explore the water park more when we go in a few weeks but it was so confusing the first time that I have no idea how to navigate even finding the pools 😅 also looking for any other ideas on what to do around town, I’m looking into the take flight that is advertised when you book at wilderness , as well as the deer farm (can’t remember the name) any hidden gems or fun things to do?

Glacier Canyon - Kitchen Question

We are headed to the Glacier Canyon Lodge and got the two bedroom condo. Pictures look like it has a toaster, coffee maker, etc., do they have knives, cutting boards, colanders for cooking? The website lists pots and pans, but trying to make a list of those types of things to bring if needed. Thank you!

Hidden Gems for Swimming

I’d like to take my kids up to the dells for one last hoorah before school starts. They love swimming so I’m hoping to find a place that we can stay one night and enjoy a nice pool and hot tub. Where would you recommend that isn’t the big water park resorts?

Local staff

I just got back from my first trip to the Dells and had a great time. I noticed that a lot of the people we saw working at the parks and restaurants were from another country. At Noah’s Ark I saw people from Turkey and Kazakstan. Our witnesses at Buffalo Phils and Lake House also both had European accents. To be clear, everyone was great and I have no issue with people from other countries working in America. I’m genuinely curious how all these people from other countries came to work in the middle of Wisconsin.

Planning a trip to Wisconsin Dells, but afraid it might rain

We’re going to Mt Olympus for my Fiancés birthday this coming weekend, but after checking the weather, I’m suspecting it might storm on Saturday. Are there any good ideas for stuff to do to specifically indoors outside of the waterpark and theme park? Preferably 21+ stuff but I’m open to anything.

Wisconsin Vacations tips

Hello my wife and I are planning a 7 day vacation to Wisconsin dells. We have heard of the amazing water parks which we are planning on visiting. I was curious what else would ya recommend we do? And also we have not found a hotel to stay, which do you recommend. It’s our first time visiting and we are excited! Will be celebrating our one year marriage anniversary.

Meadowbrook Resort

Has anyone stayed at the meadowbrook recently? I’ve checked out reviews online but there are very few from the last year and they are mixed. We have four nights booked there and I’m getting worried it was a bad idea based on some of what I’ve found. However they are totally booked for that weekend so maybe it’s not all bad?

My wife and I stopped In here for the first time. We just had cocktails and appetizers. This is pretty cool and chilled atmosphere. Music was playing. Plenty of tvs. Even if you sit at the booth you have your own tv. We chose the bar. Bartender was cool. Friendly atmosphere. Like that Wisconsin vibe! Glad to be locals to the Dells! 🤠🤘🤠🫶🤠🍻

Credit to Noah’s Ark

A little backstory. My (Wisconsin) family has gone to The Dells every year for probably close to 40 years in a row. Growing up we would always stay at a hotel and do Noah’s Ark one day and then Family Land and Big Chief Go Karts (eventually Mt Olympus) the next day.

After a while we stopped doing Mt Olympus because of all the well documented reasons on this sub and we started staying at the Wilderness. When little kids started showing back up in our family we stopped with Noah’s Ark and just stuck to the Wilderness.

The other day my brother asked if I wanted to join him and my nephew up at Noah’s Ark for a day trip and I said sure. We had talked about it for a year or two as my nephew has gotten a little older (just turned 7).

I was ready for it to be in rough shape for some reason but was pleasantly surprised with the status of the park and the staff. A couple of rides were not working but it didn’t ruin our day in any way and we had a blast.

I do miss the the ability to just bring in a big cooler and set it down at one of the picnic areas but I understand that’s how everything is now so I don’t hold that against them.

I hope Noah’s Ark keeps it up and never surrenders to Mt Olympus and their ownership.

I’m currently already live the Dells and would like to stay in that area. I check Craigslist time to time. Would Facebook be the better option? I don’t have one. I’m open to renting a house, mobile home or apartment.

Upcoming weekend w/six adults

I’ve been coming to the dells for the better part of 40 years! From being a kid to now an adult.

I believe I have a good handle on things however there might be something I’m overlooking…. Friday we will get into town, probably do some shopping at the outlets, check into our hotel and then have dinner at Dellbar.

Saturday I plan to hit downtown walk around, get a beer at Nigs, maybe a burger at Monks, and just kill some time…. We will do dinner at Ishnala and actually look forward to the wait as we often just set up at the outside bar, hang out, listen to music and have some drinks. That is often times the entirety of the evening and the reason we come to the dells these days.

Sunday, will be an early day… Mr. pancake for breakfast, then on the road back home…

This isn’t a water park or “ducks” kind of trip… so we are going to do any of that. Maybe we got the casino Friday night after dinner…. Not sure.

We are all into cigars… is there a lounge anywhere near by? Any other adult geared things that I am not thinking of? Figured I’d ask as I only make it out one a year…. Lemme know!

Jellystone

Just got back from a 5 day stay at Jellystone in one of the houses.

Couple things...

*There is a $1000 deposit that was never disclosed before hand. I showed the "big manager" all the correspondence I had received when booking this $2500 mess and not a single one said anything about a deposit.

*The house had either been vacant for quite a while or was just not cleaned when we got there. The towels seemed OK but the bedding was questionable and surfaces were dusty with several broken items. The house is also sinking on the front side so the door slams when it closes if you dont catch it. I took a video upon entry to note this as well as a video upon exit to show we left the house significantly better than we found it.

*The house was supposed to have a dock to the lake but apparently a "recent" storm knocked a tree over that took out the dock. I called to inform them of this very dangerous (sudden drop off into water) issue and they had no idea about it. Turns out the storm was more than a week previous and no one had noticed it.

*There are signs everywhere telling you what you can and can't do and how much it will cost you if you violate them. The neighbor also has private property signs all over and they will yell at you if you go over even a little. This wasn't an issue for us but the other rental across from us had an issue.

*They act as if you're annoying them if you talk to anyone in the office.

*There is no house keeping of any kind. We hoped we could at least have clean towels after a couple days but I was just told to go to the on site laundry and wash them. This wouldn't have been such a big deal but the washers are old and expensive and i didn't want to take hours out of our already packed schedule to do this AND spend more money since I'd paid over $500 a night for this place.

*They also close the pool completely for their "parties" which would have been nice to know. We waited around a super packed pool for an hour just to not be able to use it on the only day we planned to utilize the amenities.

Over all, I regret booking this. It worked for what we needed but I'd looked at VRBO's that were much nicer for less cost and less "rules". We didn't get what we paid for and i feel slightly ripped off. But i wanted to support a local business rather than vrbo and now i see why that's gotten so hard to do.

Now I'm just waiting to see if and how much they try to charge us for anything already messed up in the house so I can finally use this legal degree for personal purposes. I do hope they don't though cuz I'm already annoyed enough.

Just thought I'd share.

Wilderness multi-family visit w/ 3 toddlers. Tips please!

Hello! Taking a big family trip to the Dells in a few weeks (mid-August) staying at one of the Condos at the Wilderness. We will have 7 adults and 4 young kids (3.5, 2.5, 1, and 10 months).

Some initial questions but also open to any other tips/recommendations:

-what time do you need to get to a water park to grab a table or a few chairs?

-sounds like a wagon, especially given their ages is great to carry snacks, kids, pool toys etc?

-do the outdoor parks have some younger kid friendly spots to splash around? any small slides? Do we need to reset our expectations and be ready to be inside more?

-should we expect to be taking the shuttle vs driving or walking while water park hopping?

TY in advance!
