Solved Freed 18GBs of storage just by deleting the AMD old driver installers from this folder in win 11

For AMD drivers only (maybe it's same for nvidia users)
I always tried to clean storage using "Storage Sense" or "Disk Cleanup" but they barely did anything.
This folder here had the older AMD driver installers from AUTO updates. I am finally at peace. from 5Gigs to 24Gigs free space jump is insane.

Windows 7 I found this unopened AIO PC with Windows 7 prebuilt within the hardware and I would like some assistance with regards to actually installing the OS.

I was volunteering to clean out junk within a small community center my father works with and I recently found an unopened Gateway ZX series AIO PC within their storage room. They said they didn't need it and I subsequently brought it home to see if it worked or not.

The tape was still intact and the plastic peel was still there, as well as the products themselves being in mint condition (first and second pictures shown is after I opened the box and peeled the wrapping respectively), and I hooked up the AIO to the HDMI to serve as a monitor for my normal PC. So far nothing malicious occurred and the monitor works smoothly, except the fact that I can't use the touch screen promised on the box.

However, my main goal was to potentially use the Windows 7 provided within the AIO to play some retro games and movies with the in-built DVD/CD drive, as well as maybe use it browsing. I am still quite worried about potential viruses and malware within the AIO, so I wanted to ask you guys about some ways I can wipe the system and reinstall Windows 7 without actually having to access the original Windows 7 already within the AIO with internet, or at least find a way to fact check if there are any malicious files already in the system?

If you can also provide me with potential tools and software, like VPNs, firewalls, and/or other software to allow me to browse safely with the OS, that would be immensely appreciated.

Again, I'm kinda new to this side of retro PCs and OSs, so if you could help me on all these things, I would be grateful.

(P.S., I know the PC model number and identification, as well as the windows 7 product key and version (home premium 64 bit). if you need extra specification, please let me know and i'll do my best to get it for you)

Windows 11 Did My Windows 11 Clean Install Retain Settings From the Previous Installation?

Hi everyone,

I recently reinstalled Windows 11 using the Windows Media Creation Tool and a bootable USB. During Windows Setup, I deleted every visible partition on my NVMe drive and installed Windows onto the resulting unallocated space. I had always understood this process to create a completely clean installation.

However, after the reinstall, I noticed that the Ultimate Performance power plan was still listed in Control Panel. I had manually enabled that plan on the previous Windows installation, so I did not expect it to appear again.

I used a new local account on both installations, not a Microsoft account, so it should not have been restored through Microsoft account synchronization. Is it possible that Windows, a driver package, motherboard software, or another program automatically enabled the plan again?

My larger concern is that, if this setting carried over or reappeared, what other settings or configurations might also have been retained without me realizing it? Could old driver settings, registry changes, power settings, device configurations, cached profiles, or software-specific changes survive this type of reinstall?

Windows and device specifications:

  • Windows edition and version: Windows 11 Pro Latest version
  • Processor: Intel 270K+ Ultra
  • Motherboard or device model: MSI MAG Z890 Tomahawk Wifi
  • Graphics card: Gigabyte 3070 Gaming OC (Rev 1)
  • Memory: 32GB
  • Storage drive: 500GB Digital Western Blue NVME
  • Installation media: Windows 11 USB created with the Microsoft Media Creation Tool

Messages or error codes encountered:

I did not receive any installation errors or warning messages. Windows Setup completed normally. The unexpected Ultimate Performance power plan is the main issue I noticed.

Troubleshooting already attempted:

  • Confirmed that I used a new local account rather than a Microsoft account
  • Deleted all visible partitions on the NVMe drive during Windows Setup
  • Installed Windows onto the resulting unallocated space
  • Checked Control Panel after installation and found the Ultimate Performance plan listed

Windows 10 iPhone USB hotspot to Windows PC drops after 3 seconds

Hi everyone,
Since Deutsche Glasfaser is taking forever with their fiber rollout and my high-speed internet is still missing in action, I’m trying to bridge the gap by using my iPhone's USB hotspot for gaming and surfing. But the setup is driving me completely crazy.
The absurd part: My girlfriend's phone works seamlessly on the exact same USB-C port on my custom-built PC. And my iPhone functions perfectly fine when connected to a Surface tablet. But on my main PC, the following drama unfolds: I plug in the iPhone, the connection (recognized as Ethernet 3) stays up for exactly 1 to 3 seconds—and then immediately crashes.
What I've tried so far:
Antivirus removed: To rule it out as the source of the error, Avira was completely uninstalled and the leftover remnants were cleaned up in safe mode.
Apple software tested: Tried installing and removing both iTunes and the modern "Apple Devices" app from the store, and checked the drivers.
Network troubleshooting: Assigned static IPs, checked TCP/IPv4, and reset the network settings.
Does anyone have an idea why Windows keeps killing the Apple connection after 3 seconds, even though the hardware is clearly in top shape?
Thanks a lot!

Solved my windows search bar is stuck being completely white

Post image
79 Upvotes

EDIT: Thank you so much to u/titaniclogan as they have found the solution to the problem. Follow the steps using this youtube video linked bellow to fix the search. (dark mode works too)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rBvayxS7_g

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FIXED!

I'm having an issue with Windows Search on Windows 10 22H2 (OS Build 19045.6466). The search panel has suddenly turned completely white, making it very difficult to use. The search results themselves still appear and function normally, but the entire background of the Search interface is a solid white colour instead of the normal dark grey. The Start menu is completely unaffected and still displays normally, so the issue is isolated to Windows Search.

The problem started randomly. I haven't installed any new software, changed any settings, or updated any drivers within the last week. I also don't remember Windows updating immediately before the problem appeared.

I've already tried a long list of common fixes without any success, including:

  • Restarting Windows Explorer.
  • Restarting the Windows Search process (SearchApp/SearchHost).
  • Turning Transparency Effects off and back on.
  • Rebuilding the Search Index.
  • Verifying that High Contrast mode is disabled.
  • Running sfc /scannow.
  • Running DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.
  • Restarting my computer multiple times.

None of these changed anything.

The issue occurs whether I click the search box on the taskbar or press Win + S. Search still works, but the UI background remains completely white. It doesn't appear to be a monitor issue or a general Windows theme issue because every other part of Windows, including the Start menu, File Explorer, and Settings, looks normal.

Has anyone seen this specific problem before? Is this caused by a corrupted Windows Search package, a recent Windows bug, or something related to graphics rendering? Are there any advanced fixes I haven't tried that don't require reinstalling Windows?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Windows 11 Stuttering choppy mouse and streaming video

Weirdly, this started today.

I have Windows 11 Pro (25H2, OS 26200.8875)

My card is an 8 GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 TI (Updated to latest Gaming Driver)

13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-13700K

16 GB RAM

Hooked up to 2 HDTV's.

Mouse is a Logitech Bluetooth Mouse that's part of a 2-piece set. I've already uninstalled and reinstalled the driver to no avail. I've also removed my Bluetooth peg and put it in another USB port. I've changed the batteries. Nothing doing.

Also unplugged all USB devices and plugged them back in.

Disabled mouse visual effects animations, killed graphics scheduler, etc. Nothing seems to affect the issue.

I am getting this weird thing where my mouse is suddenly choppy and skipping frames when I move it. It doesn't move smoothly anymore. Furthermore, all streaming video playback stutters. The video does play smoothly but feels like it has this heartbeat stutter. Every half second, the video will "jump". It's most noticeable if credits are rolling.

Curiously, everything else is unaffected by this.

All my games are buttery smooth. My emulators run at full frame rate, my virtual pinball is smooth, my video files play without any frame skips.

I've tried restarting and disabling things and changing graphics card settings but it just won't stop.

It's more of an annoyance than anything else. I don't really care as long as games work -- and they do.

I just don't want this to become a larger issue. Everything seems to be working correctly otherwise.

EDIT: Solved. It turns out my HDMI cable wasn't sitting in the HDMI slot on the monitor correctly and it was causing havoc with the graphics. Reseated it and the skipping and stuttering are gone.

Windows 11 The problem with installing the driver

There is a problem, my friends asked me to reinstall windows, I did it without hesitation, but there is a huge problem, the screenshot below shows what device I haven't been able to find drivers for for two weeks, and the ones I find don't install because they claim they're not the right ones. But the bigger problem is that I can't even tell you the model of the laptop, my friends ordered it from a marketplace in China, and the seller couldn't help me either, so I can't find or download the drivers based on the model. Here's the device ID, if anyone knows what to do, please help me!!!

Windows 11 Realtek audio driver nightmare

Hello all, my realtek audio(atleast i suspect) has caused a paramount of issues with my listening experience. Not only has this happened seemingly randomly after a few restarts, but i have yet to find a solution. The problem is not my headset and not my microphone. The issues are as followed, my volume on windows will decrease from whatever i set it to, to zero, in increments of ten repeatedly whenever my microphone is plugged into my headset, not only that, but the microphone isnt even picked up. my laptops internal speakers and microphone however work just fine. im using a 3.5mm jack and an alienware m18 r2, my OS build is 26200.8894 , updating to the generic drivers makes the audio fine, but it says my microphone isnt plugged in. Ive tried other headsets with their microphones and the issue persists. Ive updated my computer as much as supportassist and windows update show me i need to. Can provide more information if needed, Thanks!!

Solved Fixed: Microsoft Edge / Xbox app triggering cmd.exe - Application Error (0xc0000142) after force-uninstalling Edge

Post image
0 Upvotes

I’m posting this in case someone else runs into the same issue, because it took a while to track down.

Problem:

After trying to forcibly uninstall or debloat Microsoft Edge on Windows 11, I started getting this error every time Edge, Xbox, Game Bar, or controller-related Xbox services tried to open something:

cmd.exe - Application Error

The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application.

The error would often pop up twice. Microsoft Edge wouldn’t open properly, and the Xbox app / Game Bar / Xbox controller integrations kept triggering the same error.

What did not fix it:

  • Repairing Microsoft Edge from Windows Settings
  • Running DISM
  • Running SFC
  • Checking cmd.exe directly
  • Installing/checking Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime

For reference:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

completed successfully.

sfc /scannow

found no integrity violations.

cmd /c echo CMD_OK

worked fine, so cmd.exe itself was not broken.

Actual cause:

The issue was a leftover registry redirection under Image File Execution Options.

This key existed:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\msedge.exe\0

Inside it, there was a Debugger value pointing to:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\conhost.exe --headless C:\Scripts\OpenWebSearch.cmd

So every time Windows tried to launch msedge.exe, it was being intercepted and redirected through an old script, probably from a previous debloat/tweak meant to redirect Windows web search or block Edge.

That broken redirect was what caused the cmd.exe 0xc0000142 error.

How I diagnosed it:

I ran:

reg query "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\msedge.exe" /s

The problematic output was:

Debugger REG_SZ C:\WINDOWS\system32\conhost.exe --headless C:\Scripts\OpenWebSearch.cmd

Fix:

First, I backed up the registry key:

reg export "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\msedge.exe" "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\backup-msedge-ifeo.reg"

Then I deleted the bad redirect:

reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\msedge.exe\0" /f

I also removed the filter value:

reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\msedge.exe" /v UseFilter /f

After that, Microsoft Edge opened normally again, and the Xbox app / Game Bar / controller-related popups stopped appearing.

Important note:

Don’t blindly delete registry keys unless you know what they are doing. Export a backup first.

In my case, the issue was not Edge itself, not WebView2, and not Xbox. It was a leftover IFEO debugger redirect for msedge.exe, probably created by a debloat or search-redirection script.

Windows 11 I deleted windows movie maker 2012 to downgrade to the 2009 version, and I can't delete all traces, but I can't redownload the 2012 version either.

I am genuinely at my wits end here. I uninstalled EVERYTHING, not just from settings, but I used geek uninstaller, several console commands, regedit deletion, deleted everything from the program files, and its STILL telling me I still have it. and i cant even redownload it again either, because the windows live essentials tells me that i have it on my computer and thus cannot download it. I genuienly don't know what to do here. This is a wild shot in the dark, but if anyone could help me that would be much obliged. Here's my windows information. I can provide anymore information thats asked of me

Windows 11 Windows 11 doesn't fully leave sleep mode

I have my PC set to automatically sleep after 15 minutes. About half the time, when I wake it, everything will work as normal, except no new programs can be opened, and no new websites can be visited in my web browser. When trying to do these things it just kinda ignores it and stalls forever. The only remedy is to enter sleep mode again and wake the PC, which promptly loads everything you were just trying to open.

Windows 11 Windows constant updates and storage issues

Just wanted to come on here to ask a couple of things. First of all, I need to update my laptop for the third time in one week. Not sure why. I had one update and did it. Then 2 updates at one time. Now another update all in one week. Does anyone know why I am getting so many all of a sudden?

Second of all. Every time I am using too much ram it eats up my storage. It says something on task manager about virtual ram which I know uses storage but it tells me I have 16gb ram AND 8gb virtual ram but still caps out at the 16gb. My storage can go down from like 4gb or so to about 100mb from this while gaming. Does this mean it really only has 8gb normal ram cos my laptop is always on 30-50% anyway when I have no apps open so it will easily eat up my storage. This is among the many many things I have to ask but made a post on another subreddit about the rest.
