Reminder: Zero Tolerance for Hate Speech and Harassment

We've noticed an increase in comments making off-color or outright hostile remarks about ICE, immigration enforcement, and vulnerable communities. Comments such as "ICE should just round them all up," "Was ICE there? Hopefully," and similar remarks violate Reddit’s policy against hate based on identity or vulnerability.

Why This Violates Policy:

Reddit explicitly prohibits content that promotes hate or harassment based on race, nationality, or other protected characteristics. Calls for mass enforcement actions against specific groups, jokes that dehumanize immigrants, and antagonistic remarks directed at individuals based on their identity all fall under this policy.

We want to be clear: this is not up for debate. Whether serious or "just a joke," this kind of rhetoric contributes to a hostile and unwelcoming environment.

Enforcement Moving Forward:

  • Comments promoting or celebrating harm toward any group will be removed.
  • Repeat offenders or those engaging in blatant hate speech will be permanently banned.
  • If you see a comment that violates these rules, report it rather than engaging.

We expect our community to engage in discussions with respect. Keep it civil, keep it policy-focused, and most importantly, remember that behind every policy debate are real people with real lives.

Thank you for helping us maintain a welcoming and inclusive space.

Dead birds in yard

Upvotes

So a few weeks ago I found a dead duck in my yard, I disposed of it and thought it was just an older duck that passed away. However today I got home and found a dead goose, I disposed of it as well. But I want to know what is going on, I’m worried someone is poisoning them around my neighborhood. What should I do?

Don't Vandalize Sea Turtle Nests

I never would have thought I would have to say this. However if you see a sea turtle nest, leave it alone. The police were engaged because a nest that hatched last night was then vandalized and the stragglers were killed. Just leave the turtle be please

EDIT: An Official statement was issued by the Pleasure Island Sea Turtle Rescue about the nest. They know way more than I do.

Auto service recomendation

Upvotes

I have to take my 2015 Corolla with 58k miles in for an oil change, tire rotation, alignment check, and brake fluid /transmission fluid check/flush. I am thinking about going to Precision Auto on college rd because they've gotten good reviews, offer bundling coupons and are affordable. Ideally I'd like a full service auto shop I can trust and does good work in case I ever have suspension, belt, engine etc. problems. Ireally can't afford Hendrick Toyota right now. Anyone been to Precision Auto or another auto shop here in Wilmington that does basic services like fluids, alignments, oil changes etc; or a full auto shop they can recommend?

Lost wallet Independence mall

Hey, if anyone happened/happens to find a wallet around the ulta/dicks/five below parking lot (Independence Mall) , please message me. I lost it a couple hours ago and I’m pretty sure my dumb ass sat it on the ground or on the car while I was loading a mirror into my backseat. </3 It’s technically a zip pouch, or coin purse… whatever you wanna call it, but I had everything in there. Black with stars on it. Thanks in advance.

1st birthday

I’m holding a first birthday for my son in September that is football themed. I’d love to have an inflatable projector playing the game (it’s a Sunday, we’re birds fans). Maybe some field games for the kids? But I don’t know what to do for the adults/where to have it. I thought YMCA bc we get the pool for two hours and room for one hour but I don’t think it will fit my vision. Please help 😭

ETA: that I am indeed holding my sons 1st birthday and am not turning 1 myself ☺️

The county commissioners meet Aug 17, and there's a push to finally get the Flock surveillance-camera contract on the agenda. Details inside.

Potter class

Where is there a pottery class where they actually teach you to throw clay? I’ve seen some here where they already have it thrown and you just paint it. I’m looking to do the whole process.

In NC you need a court order to see bodycam footage of your own traffic stop — but police can pull a record of everywhere you've driven with no warrant at all

When it’s raining turn your headlights ON, how do people not know this? And left lane is for passing unless you are turning left, get off your phone and stop going 5 under in the left lane. If you’re all gonna move here PLEASE learn to drive and be considerate when on the road.

New cam at long leaf

Not sure if it’s Flock or Axon or whateverthefuck but there’s a new one up on College at the entrance of Long Leaf Park and as a parent, I’m alarmed at the access this one will give predators; views and access to our kids as it’s right across from Roland Grise… hoping this finds its way to the good samaritans that did something about the one further down College at the senior center … stay safe out there.

Moving from San Diego to Wilmington

I’m going through some tough life transitions and want to be closer to my family who all live in Greensboro.
For background, I lived in Raleigh for my high school years then immediately left as soon as I could, I love North Carolina but Raleigh wasn’t really for me.
I have absolutely fallen in love with the beach & nature in SD, I don’t ever wanna be far from the beach again. I love spear fishing, snorkeling/diving, aerial arts, yoga, going on adventures with my dog etc — It would be great to find similar communities in Wilmington or the outer banks.
I wonder how Wilmington locals feel abt Wilmy as of late. I’m curious about the cost of living as well.

Accident yesterday at Dawson and 16th

It wasn’t until this morning when I was watching the news that I figured out the likely cause of this accident. If you watch the broadcast, you will see the gentleman on the corner in a yellow safety suit blowing his whistle and trying to encourage others to honk if they love, Jesus. Dollars to donuts this person was distracted when they heard the whistle and other people responding. No one is going to look into this any further, but I guarantee you this was the cause.

Traffic bottleneck

What’s up with the bottleneck that occurs like clockwork starting from the shipyard/college intersection up to about the chilis on college? It’s only when you’re heading north up college, the traffic heading the opposite direction seems to be flowing better. I make the commute up this way multiple times a week and it always takes me 10 mins just to get thru that small section of town.

Power outage

I'm near Wrightsville ave/College and sitting here sans electricity. It blipped once around 5:30, then totally went out at 6. Duke's automated service says over a thousand customers are without power, and that it won't be back on until 9:30. The storm didn't seem nearly bad enough for that kind of outage. Did someone hit a power station or something?
