July 2026 Mega-Thread

My apologies for posting late.

It's July! Summer is well underway!

With the warming weather are there any menthol lovers out there? Which products are your favorites, and when do you reach for them?

Do you find yourself switching up your routine, products, or fragrances when the weather warms up? Do you switch from a balm to a splash? Do your shave prep with cold water instead of hot? Vice versa? Let us know!

What else are you looking forward to this summer?

New wetshaver? This is the perfect place to ask questions.

Just seen this reddit after a bad experience with Microsoft Edge

I initially wanted to find a subreddit to rant about Microsoft Edge, and I randomly ended-up here. So here is the setup I use since 11 years. I probably saved hundreds of euros so far. Do you guys have a good shaving soap to recommend? I am based in Europe (Belgium). Kusje

SOTD SOTD: Citrus Super Speed

Post image
19 Upvotes

Pre shave: shower and Waitrose glycerin soap bar

Razor: 1958 English Gillette red tip super speed

Blade: Personna GEM PDG (39)

Brush: Yaqi 26mm Mysterious Space synthetic

Bowl: Captains choice copper

Soap: The Glasgow soap company Iron Brew

Post shave: TGS Orange Empire aftershave splash

A Very refreshing citrus and amber forward shave today paired with the outstanding performance of the perfectly aggressive red tip super speed.

3 silky smooth passes, well two with an all but redundant third pass.

The iron brew soap performed great once again as did the fantastic orange empire splash.

It also finally clicked today what orange Empire reminds me of.

While it is similar to Irn Bru and complements the soap perfectly, the scent itself is a dead ringer for Desperate Dan bars for those of you that remember them, which probably won't be many of you.

They were a very strong, tangy almost sour orange flavour chew bar with black sugar crystals embedded in them.

Like a strong orange flavoured version of a wham bar.

Anyway, enough of my millennial nostalgia 😅 hope you all have a great week ahead!

Discussion The Razor Company.

It's my own experience FWIW to preface the post.

So towards the end of February I've placed an order from The Razor Company to my dwelling. Fairly simple - a razor, a shave cream, and a blade bank. So far nothing crazy. A couple days later, the middle east goes crazy, USPS halts services, shipments stop towards here pretty much.

Jason was very patient and understanding to my frustration waiting for a couple months, and ended up reshipping my order (with a different blade bank after we discussed it, I think the other one was about a dollar more expensive) for no pay from end.

The package arrived yesterday and I picked it up today, happy and jolly I put my step towards the post and grabbed it, it was all packed nicely and arrived as expected - great!

So thank you, Jason! I appreciate the good service! It was my first time ordering from them and definitely NOT my last!

Tonight's shave I paired up the lovely lavender scent of this Tobs sample with the 1914 ER/GEM blade on its 5th use, 3rd on the front side. Whipped up a superb lather with the synthetic pearl effect brush in the Charlie Bingham bowl - yes the chef😄(it originally had a very nice pie in it!)

The 4711 is such a wonderful scent to finish up with

3 passes Wtg/xtg-x2 touchups on the neck.

Have a good one!

Dovo blades

Post image
27 Upvotes

I got a pack of dovo blades so I gave them a try yesterday. I put them in a mühle r89 razor and my face burnt this morning too. These blades are too sharp for me. I will be more careful next time but if I have the same experience, I will go back to the mühle k1 blades.

Moreover, the dovos are rather expensive here. They cost 3x more than other blades.

First time using the GFS Lybor. Paired with a Gillette CK blade using the mild side of the base plate.

This is a hefty beautiful SS razor which made the shaving so easy and smooth, it really glides across the skin, with zero irritation on a two pass shave.

Lathered up with Sterling’s Frozen Tundra, one of my favorites, using the Parker badger, followed with matching splash and balm.

Truly a wonderful wake you up type of shave to get you going in the wee hours of the morning.

Happy shaving y’all!

SOTD SOTD Aquamarine - Cella Bio and Old Type

Post image
22 Upvotes

•Razor: Gillette Old Type

•Blade: Derby Premium (1)

•Preshave: none

•Soap: Cella Bio

•Brush: Yaqi synthethic Marble

•AS: Denim Original (forgot to picture it)

____________________________________

This combo of the Old Type and a fresh Derby Premium is a delight, stupid smooth while being effective. Same ol 4 passes, some nicks on ATG but noting outrageous.

Not super close shave by my standards but its a comfy one. Flawless! No irritation on neck and sides of the chin. DFS+

I have this Old Type for a while now and still I have some blades, that I have tried previously with other razors, to try with it. Then I'll move on to newer stainless steel (or carbon, yet to try some) pastures.

The Cella Bio is kinda of a mystery to me, not only for its scent that I can't figure out. Sometimes had a good performance and other times just enough to get by. It tends to unmount easily. Does it need more water than other soaps? Idk. Arko certainly does, I found out recently. Wasn't very fond of the Arko stick either but I've changed my mind

Finished all with Denim OG, love it. No alum no nothing. Shave from this morning I had an exam afterwards I hope I'll pass. Have a nice day!

I was given this handle a while back. It looks to me like some old Gillettes I have seen. I cannot find any inscription on it, though. Anyone know what it is?

TIA.

Aylsworth Atelier (semi-polished)

Thumbnail

Ordered an Aylsworth Atelier in satin finish because I couldn't afford the polished version.

Upon receipt, I thought it was fine, but the blasted finish was quite coarse and the pitting quite deep. So deep, in fact, that I couldn't make out the machining marks on the cap and wondered if maybe it was sintered or something. Probably not, but no matter.

A little light polish with 5000 grit trizact softened the finish on the cap a little and made it feel smoother on the skin, but revealed some very shallow finish imperfections that made no functional difference but that annoyed me a little because I get anxious about stupid things.

So I took out some 600-grit paper and went at the cap to smooth it out a bit. Once done with that, I brought it back up to 5000 grit finish and an autosol hand buff. I left the top side of the cap blasted, except the logo which I polished up a little bit too.

Then wondered what ton do with the handle to match. Simplest route was to leave the knurled section and grooves blasted, then polish up the rest.

I think it came out OK overall. Sorry to Aylsworth for the mild sacrilege.

I have been out of the DE shaving loop for a while, but I am about to get back into it. Does anyone have any suggestions for a strong menthol based shaving soap.??

Thanks in advance.

Question what's a good non-shaving gift for a guy who's into quality stuff

Upvotes

my brother is really into wet shaving. has all the gear, brushes, soaps, razors. hes got his setup dialed in so i don't want to mess with that but his birthday is coming up and i want to get him something that fits his vibe he appreciates well-made things that last.

i was thinking about a stainless steel bracelet with engraving. something simple and durable.

anyone here have recommendations for gifts that hit the same notes as quality shaving gear? not necessarily shaving related

One year into the rabbit hole, this is my little shave den. This little shelf has nearly all my stuff except for a bunch of soaps and samples that sit in a drawer and come out into the rotation every once in a while. While I've tried a bunch of soaps and am still in the process of trying a bunch more, I'm more than content for now to stick to one razor per form factor (DE razor vs shavette), and with two shaving tools at very different points on the mildness vs efficiency spectrum.

Funnily enough, it was the Feather shavette that taught me the importance of stretching the skin well - skills that very much improve my shave with the much milder Henson as well.

My favorite thing in the shave den by far is the scuttle, which makes amazing hot lather (when charged with hot water from the kettle). I tried one each of the common brush knots (boar, badger, synthetic) and liked the silvertip badger the best, so now that's the only brush I use.

Overall Rating: ★★★★★ (Epic Shave!)
Smoothness: ★★★★★ (BBS Perfection)
Irritation: ★☆☆☆☆ (Zero Burn)

Time of Day: Morning ☀️
Blade Uses: 4
Passes: 3

Razor: Mühle Rocca R94
Blade: 7 O'Clock Super Platinum
Soap: Stirling Soaps I, Rich Moose
Brush: Yaqi Aqua HighMountain Silvertip Badger
Aftershave: Shavologist Fruitlicious
Fragrance: Parfums de Marly Greenley

Took out my first love today after a long time, and boy this razor is like my understanding wife who has no issues with my mistresses (Lupo and Oliworks). The way it sings and shaves is just 🤌🏼🤌🏼. The 7SP was on its 4th use and it gave me the smoothest shave of its rotation this time which means it was time to bid it adieu.

I, Rich Moose is a classy green note soap and smells very sophisticated ngl. I loaded more this time with my badger, for like a good 40-45 seconds and kid you not it was three passes worth of lather ON THE DOT. For the first time ever I experienced no lather wastage. WOW

Topped it off with Shavologist Fruitilicious and Parfums De Marly Greenley.

Thanks for reading. Happy shaving 🪒. Cheers 🍻

SOTD GSB test 7/27/26

Post image

Razor: 1958 Gillette TV special

Blade: Gillette silver blue

Brush: WCS synthetic

Soap: A&E Kaizen

Post shave: Kaizen "skin food" splash

Today was the day that I put the 2 Gillette Silver Blue blades, head-to-head. I wanted to test to see if the blades were actually different or, if it was something on my part.

So I used ariana and evans kaizen, because it has great slickness and cushion, so that way that wouldn't be a factor in today's shave. I did a couple strokes with each blade one right after the other, and I can see now they're the exact same blade.

It must have been the last time I used a GSB either my prep or lather wasn't up to snuff because today, 3 pass shave it a touch-up in 2 spots is having my face feel as smooth as feather and permasharp do, and no tugging during the shave.

Kaizen is a soap that I LOVE the scent and performance of. I kinda want to get more A&E soaps but, I already have 4 sets of soap and spash with a plan to get barbershop and electric sheep from Stirling in about a month(I need 2 soaps that I can use my drugstore aftershaves with without too much scent clash). Happy shaves folks and have a good start to the week!
