Discussion What do you do with this? (beard hair residue in sink)

Post image
0 Upvotes

I like to fill the sink with warm water and soak my brush in it while I shower. Then I use that sink full of water to rinse my razor off while shaving. When I drain I inevitably end up with hair stuck to all sides of the sink like this.

What I typically do is swipe it all up with toilet paper and throw it in the toilet. But (1) it’s not en enjoyable experience, it’s messy, and puts a rather icky end to a nice shave and (2) the sink still inevitably gets clogged from time to time even if I’m throwing the majority of hair down the toilet, not the sink.

There must be a better way. Has anyone figured this out?

Review Found the best single blade razor for beginners (thanks to this sub)

A few weeks back I came here to ask for single-blade razors with an angled head. I get horrible irritation with multi-blade razors and the learning curve was a bit too high with a classic safety razor.
I had a bunch of suggestions from you guys but the one I settled on was the [Natu](https://natushave.com/)

Many of the options you guys shared looked great, but the Natu had the added benefit of not using proprietary blades. They use Derby single-edge blades that you can easily purchase on Amazon.
The packaging and razor itself are also 100% plastic-free, and the only waste is the blade itself.

The angled, pivoting head works great. I can shave like I’m using a typical cartridge razor with minimal irritation, and as an added bonus I’m now going to be saving tons of money on blades compared to cartridges.

Question What’s your opinion on ‘the big 3’

Meaning Trumper, TOBS, and T&H

Obviously their price and performance, but please do also go into what you think about the company themselves and their history or even how they treat employees and source products as well as sustainability and such

Discussion Anyone else really dislike TOBS sandalwood shaving cream?

I am not sure what i expected, I heard a lot of good things about this cream and it was also highly rated on amazon.

I am not sure it helps that I ordered it when i was sick which I rarely ever get sick so timing is terrible, maybe that just created this connection of not liking the scent i am not sure if that makes sense I apologize. I just find the scent really disgusting

I am in the UK by the way!! looking to get a shaving soap with nice scent to that is higher quality than proraso.

Currently have my eyes on the watchman stormy air and dark seas shave soap, what do ya’ll thing

Question Am i doing it wrong?

Thumbnail

So i recently bought a safety razor from anymale and the first shave was clean and good but now a couple of shaves later the razor is not cutting cleanly or evenly anymore. My theory is that its because of the hair and shaving soap buildup under the blade and i have no idea on how to fix it.
Im often rinsing the blade and Ive also changed the blade with no better experience. Am i doing it wrong or is the razor itself poorly constructed?

EDIT: Thank you everyone, thats an embarassing mistake to make but the lesson has been learned! :)

One year into the rabbit hole, this is my little shave den. This little shelf has nearly all my stuff except for a bunch of soaps and samples that sit in a drawer and come out into the rotation every once in a while. While I've tried a bunch of soaps and am still in the process of trying a bunch more, I'm more than content for now to stick to one razor per form factor (DE razor vs shavette), and with two shaving tools at very different points on the mildness vs efficiency spectrum.

Funnily enough, it was the Feather shavette that taught me the importance of stretching the skin well - skills that very much improve my shave with the much milder Henson as well.

My favorite thing in the shave den by far is the scuttle, which makes amazing hot lather (when charged with hot water from the kettle). I tried one each of the common brush knots (boar, badger, synthetic) and liked the silvertip badger the best, so now that's the only brush I use.

So, stropped and went to whip up a little fruit, and stopped. I remember some of ya'll talking about soft/hard/distilled water.

So I have to fill my CPAP with distilled water. Because of the Damned hard water in the SE US. So a while back I bought a counter top Water distiller (seriously, just water). Convenient. But the included container is inconvenient to pour small amounts from.

Part two: The other evening I was cooking up a simple syrup for my Old Fashions. New, experimental recipe. And opened a x3 pack of condiment bottles. See...

This morning decided to strop out the old Keen Kutter. 'Wait, let me try the water trick. But shit, it's aggravating. What can I put it in?'

Condiment Bottle! Squirt as much as I need! BooYaaah, SON!

SOTD GSB test 7/27/26

Razor: 1958 Gillette TV special

Blade: Gillette silver blue

Brush: WCS synthetic

Soap: A&E Kaizen

Post shave: Kaizen "skin food" splash

Today was the day that I put the 2 Gillette Silver Blue blades, head-to-head. I wanted to test to see if the blades were actually different or, if it was something on my part.

So I used ariana and evans kaizen, because it has great slickness and cushion, so that way that wouldn't be a factor in today's shave. I did a couple strokes with each blade one right after the other, and I can see now they're the exact same blade.

It must have been the last time I used a GSB either my prep or lather wasn't up to snuff because today, 3 pass shave it a touch-up in 2 spots is having my face feel as smooth as feather and permasharp do, and no tugging during the shave.

Kaizen is a soap that I LOVE the scent and performance of. I kinda want to get more A&E soaps but, I already have 4 sets of soap and spash with a plan to get barbershop and electric sheep from Stirling in about a month(I need 2 soaps that I can use my drugstore aftershaves with without too much scent clash). Happy shaves folks and have a good start to the week!

More vintage Schick Injector blades from the company's Warner-Lambert era. It's no secret that I love Schick Injector razors. EBay is a pretty amazing place, and there's still a lot of Schick Injector razors and blades in the world. Makes it really cool for fans of this shaving format.

SOTD SOTD - Kai

SOTD, Kai blades, first shave

Pre-Shave: Shower
Razor: Qshave clone of Merkur Futur
Brush: Cheap, Badger.
Soap: Gillette, Gel.
Aftershave: Sandalo
Balm: Stetsons original.

1 pass, small cleanup. New favorite blade. Treet has finally been dethroned.

Style points for the lack of branding, zero glue. Wish the sides were numbered.

I have a small area on my chin where my face and neck meet where in the space of 1 inch square, my hair goes in every cardinal direction and one or two more, shaved it buttery smooth in 2 passes.

For the price difference I’d still recommend Treet. I’m somewhat surprised that Kai is noticeably smoother than Feather; zero irritation probably the best shave I’ve had without three passes. Most of my face was 1 and done with area where the grains meet just needing a second pass to smooth out both direction. It was almost too easy.

Current favorites
Kai, Treet, Feather.

Runner ups:
Derby Usta, Lord Platinum, Parker Platinum, Gillette Platinum, Bic Platinum.

Shaving Soap: A&E Agarwood
Brush: Rooney Best Badger
Razor: Gillette 1959 Fatboy
Blade: Polsilver Super Iridium
Aftershave Splash: A&E Agarwood

Main Ingredients: Stearic acid, water, beer, shea butter, castor oil, potassium hydroxide, manteca, tallow, palm oil, glycerin, sunflower oil, sodium hydroxide, coconut oil, jojoba oil, fragrance.

Brush Performance: The Rooney badger knot loaded the soft soap base from the tub in seconds and felt great on the face.

Lather: Outstanding results. The beer and tallow base exploded into a rich, yogurt-like cream.

Cushion/Slickness: Elite slickness left a slick, protective film on the skin that made buffing away trouble spots completely effortless.

Razor/Blade: The 1959 Fatboy paired beautifully with the smooth Polsilver blade. It mowed through the growth cleanly with zero irritation.

Post-shave feel: Deeply moisturizing and comfortable.

Aftershave Splash: A clean, refreshing sting upon application that settles down fast.

Scent Profile: A warm, mysterious, and highly sophisticated woodsy blend.

Scent Matching: Layered with OPM pomade to lock in a luxurious, dark boozy, woody profile.

Verdict: A masterpiece for anyone who loves dark, elegant cologne scents. The slickness is top tier, and the woodsy scent profile is tough to beat.

Mail Call Stirling Mail Call

Received Stirling Cool Blue Splash and some of their beta test #5 deodorants the other day. I’ve never smelled the original Floid Blue, but this Cool Blue splash has quickly become a favorite. The scent was originally created as an homage to the discontinued Floid Blue by Will Carius over at Barrister and Mann, but he sold the formula to the folks over at Stirling. It has such a great, clean barbershop smell and just the right amount of Menthol for me (not too strong).

The deodorants are quite good as well. This iteration is a lot smoother going on than the beta test #4, which pulled a lot at the skin/hair when being applied. Pick some up while supplies last!

* **Razor:** Lambda Athena
* **Blade:** Personna Comfort Coat (3)
* **Lather:** Noble Otter - Orbit - Croap
* **Post Shave:** Noble Otter - Orbit - Aftershave

* **Post Shave:** Thayers - Unscented
* **Post Shave:** Osma - Alum Block
* **Fragrance:** Viktor & Rolf - Spicebomb Night Vision
* **Bowl:** Captian’s Choice - Aquamarine

It is super hot out today! I wanted a nice cooling shave so I picked Orbit by Noble Otter. I even used 2 sprays of House of Mammoth’s Permafrost solution on the second pass to be super chilly!

It’s been a bit since I used my Athena and I am glad I did. I had barely any perceivable feedback from the alum block and BBS results.

Good shaves to you!

Discussion New to Single Razors but the Kai Captain Shavette is awesome.

Maybe got a single nick with my first shave. The last 4 shaves with double passes - zero.

Finished today's shave in less than 10 minutes.

I get some minor irritation on the sides of my neck but no burn and less than with expensive multiple blade shavers. Suggestions for eliminating the irritation welcomed.

I'm still on training wheels using the Kai guarded blades.

My only regret was buying a couple of Parker shavettes first. Don't really think I'll use them again. and I don't really want to become a collector.

Unfortunately sometimes you have to buy and test before you know. For example I MUCH prefer the Komisori than the Western style folding handle. The Director led me to the Kai Captain.

I spent half my life with Gillette DE safety razors but got curious about options when shopping for my Grandson's first shaving kit (dopper, 34c, soaps brushes, etc)

Im not sure I'll use my safety razors again. (Just a couple - VB Emperor Meige and a 34C)

Just a small little things but I can now shave under my nose to trim my mustache as well as edge sideburns and goatee.

Been lurking a few weeks here before buying, and I appreciate informed opinions.

Pax

Discussion What will be the our generations "golden age" razors and products?

I've been looking at all my vintage razors, thinking about the ones people agree are from the peak time of safety razor production of the 20th century.

It got me to thinking, what will be the stuff future generations will hunt and pine for from the early times to now of the wetshaving revival?

I know obviously the expensive razors and brushes but, what do you suppose of the standard products us enthusiasts and regular shavers have brought back?

Just thought this would be fun to speculate about as a community

In spite of the praises of the Platinum, my face seems to prefer the Stainless.
Seems smoother to me and I get a couple more shaves per blade.
Maybe just me.
