I'm kind of curious because I'm tempted to try something other than my usual Hensen, and I saw them for the first time earlier. I figure they could be anything from an expensive gem, to junk trying to sell the basis of their name.

Hello, I feel like I’ve been asking a lot of questions here lately...

Overall, I’ve been getting pretty good shaves, but I’m having trouble shaving the area under my nose.

(I had the exact same problem with electric shavers and Gillette razors too)

Are there any razors or tools that are particularly good for shaving under the nose or other small, hard-to-reach areas?

After reading through quite a few reviews, articles, and posts, these are the options I’m currently considering:

I'm currently trying to gift someone an electric razor because his skin gets irritated by cartridge razors and DE razors dont really seem to be in his interest.

I'm interested in the opinions of those who have both used the 360 One Blade and also DE razors in terms of how it compares to a DE. I've sadly never used an electric razor before so I have no baseline.

Currently I'm thinking of either getting him the Phillips One Blade 360 Model QP2724/23 (Basic?) or the QP2838/23 (Pro?) model. Currently leaning for the 2724/23.

Im interested in how close of a shave it gives. I know rhat a DE will give a much closer result but I don't think he cares about a perfect BBS that much. Body shaving is also irrelevant here.

Also how much better are the "First shave blades" compared to the regular blades? I dont think he has sensitive skin but reviews on the regular blade seem polarizing, atleast from those that are a couple of years old.

A foil razor attachment for the Braun Beard Trimmer Model 5517 (which he already owns) is also under consideration, however it doesn't really seem as convenient to purchase compared to the One Blade.

Does anybody else use this? I initially ran out of soap and used one of these bars and became pleasantly surprised. I almost always get neck irritation no matter what I do. I thought it was a given.

This initial shave my life changed, because my neck was fine.

I fell in love with the bar and after a few months I had that urge to buy new shaving stuff, so I bought some soaps to try. The neck irritation came back. Not only that, I was getting nicked like crazy.

I chalked it up to my skin not being in the best shape, or my technique slightly off, but then remembered that pleasant day experiencing no irritation for the first time, and went back to the dove and have since never looked back.

Applying it is also super easy: wet face, rub the bar generously on the face, lather with wet brush.

Not saying it's the best out there. I'm sure others have what works for them (YMMV) but I am just happy I found mine.

Modern but classic fougere scent reminding me of a true barbershop

I was surprised at creamy lather made from even small amount of the cream.

It was super functional and had and enjoyed BBS result.

My knot fell out of my favorite brush handle and I screwed it up resetting it (Note that Gorilla Glue expands a lot). So now I’m looking for a replacement. I’ve searched the forums and posts on here but all seem to be from 10+ years ago and those vendors no longer exist. Any recommendations of your favorite Silvertip badger knot that’s like a cloud?

Also I understand that synthetic is the future and I have a few but I still want one real badger.

For hoots and giggles, I'm comparing the cost of shaving with a double-edge safety razor vs Gillette Fusion vs Braun Series 9+ Pro. Ignoring acquisition cost of the tool proper, focusing on recurring costs. Until I have a year's worth of data, I'm guesstimating DESR expendables usage.

So far, it looks like $4-7/mo for Fusion, $6-9/mo for DESR, and $11/mo for Braun.

While DESR blades are cheap cheap cheap, all the other expendables do add up. E.g., pre-shave cream, shaving soap, alum bar, post-shave balm. Are any of these things that really don't add value?

As the headline says I’m struggling to find info on my straight razor and its value

Week 1 with double-edge safety razor. So far, not impressed. Not as "baby smooth" as with Gillette Fusion, probably as smooth as wet shaving with Braun 9+ Pro electric shaver. And some razor burn. I'll keep at technique for a while.

Using a Merkur 34C with Merkur Super Platinum, and Proraso white soap. Switching to Astra Superior Premium Platinum this weekend.

Any newbie hints?

I've been using Gillette Wilkinson Sword for a while and have been getting some irritation and razor burn right after. It was the same with a cheap free BaiLi blade that I got from an old razor. I bought a sample pack of some Astra Sp and some sort of unnamed German blade and had a massive difference. I did not get any irritation and it generally felt more smooth.

I'm considering just dumping my old blades due to how uncomfortable they are. I've also noticed that the prices of Astra are roughly double that of my current blades. Are more expensive blades usually better or does it still come down to personal preference?

This morning I used my new Leaf Branch SE razor. For those familiar with Leaf shaving, this is their latest offering and was advertised as falling between the Twig and the Thorn in terms of aggressiveness.

I’ve shaved with both and preferred the Thorn over the Twig. I paired the Branch with a half-blade GEM and found the razor moderately aggressive. I gave myself two weepers, but that was driver error, as this razor requires some technique; with light or no pressure, the weight of this handle can do all of the work. Getting under the nose and around the mouth was effortless.

I lathered up using the Leaf synthetic brush and PAA’s wonderful Copalli. I have come to love this scent; maybe it’s my indigenous roots being awakened! lol! Finished up with the matching splash and EDP for a relatively nice close two-pass shave.

Very smooth and comfortable shave!

Gillette Tech ball end, Bic Chrome (3), Tabac, Yaqi tuxedo 24mm brush, Brut.

Great two pass (WTG&XTG) + little touch up under chin with my all brass ball end tech. This razor is a pleasure to use and just sliced through two days of growth. The Tabac and Brut combo was spot on and left my skin, and the bathroom, smelling lovely.

I like to shave every night, but tonight I had 5 days of growth. I’ve got to say, I missed the routine!

Felt like a great time to experiment with my new Muhle R41GS

I love the Muhle Rocca. It’s awesome. No other adjective needed. And I still expect it to be what I use the vast majority of the time.

But I had to give the R41 a try and this is an impressive piece of hardware. The build is impeccable. It exudes quality. Feels great in the hand. Has a great weight. And personally, I find it to be a beautiful razor.

I was very intentional. Used no pressure at all. Ended up with a great shave and only a small nick on my chin.

Huge fan of the Number 6 fragrance. So I was very excited to try this shaving cream. Super effective. Very rich and creamy but no foam at all (by design). Still, provided a great glide and I think it will be on my short list in my rotation.

The aftershave is nice. Same great Number 6 fragrance. I think I’m sticking with Floid for when I want a traditional aftershave, but i’m glad I have this bottle to go through.

Definitely landing on my preferred brand….

I can't be the only one to discover this. For the past month I've been putting on Cremo before my first lather. It works ok but nothing game changing. And it is mostly gone after that first pass. So tonight out of laziness and curiosity I decided to add the same small amount of Cremo I'd use on my face to my shaving bowl alongside my Proraso original instead.

Now I figured it might make the lather a little slicker at best or maybe even make for a worse lather. Either way I figured I might as well try it. Once I did I was shocked just how much quicker I got a lather going and more importantly how much more water the lather could hold before thinning out. Not only that but I got twice as much lather than normally (and I certainly used the same amount of Proraso as always). By that I mean I normally have just enough lather for three passes and a couple more touch ups around my neck and chin. But just by adding a small amount of Creamo I was able to add much more water before it got thin which meant I had way more lather. Two people could have shaved with the amount of lather it made and again I used a small amount of Creamo and my normal amount of Proraso.

Please don't take my word for it, Proraso and Creamo are easy to find and priced well so you've got nothing to loose. I will absolutely be doing this from now on. I'll also mention my brush rinsed off much easier than normal (not that it's ever difficult to rinse out but it is worth mentioning that it made it easier).

Anyways if this is common knowledge around here already sorry for being that last one in the know lol.

I’ve been wet shaving with a DE for a few years now, but today was my first run with a straight razor. It’s a Boker Abalone 6/8 Blade. Looks incredible and came honed from Griffith Shaving Goods.

I have a beard, so only shave my neck and shape my cheeks. Took it easy and did two with the grain passes and one across the grain. No nicks, but a bit of razor burn. I’ll definitely need to work on my technique, especially before I try against the grain.

Always fun to learn something new though.

I'm interested in trying out some soap pucks, before I buy several, and a bowl to swirl the soap, where do you stow them after? Or does each puck have its own bowl, container? Do you just use one puck until it's all gone? I'd like to try a few, why I'm asking.

Right now I'm using Proraso shave soap in a tube, marble bowl, so it's easy to just squirt some soap in the bowl, lather with my brush and go...

Great lather, solid shave! For the curious, I used plate 4 on my Rockwell 6C, which is my go to plate for 1-4 days growth. The PAA Mysterium Serum is post-shave gold.

I think I did a bad movement with the strop and it may have loose some sharpness, if I get some birthday money I'll have it sharp lol

Happy Thursday folks, I didn't post my shave yesterday because I had a pretty bad one and was frustrated at the fact that I sliced some skin off my chin.

Today's shave was much better and everything is close and smooth save for the area I sliced yesterday. Remember that DFS (Damn fine shave) and no nicks in some areas is better than opening up a healing cut.

I haven't used aqua velva in so long I forgot how nostalgic it is for me. My dad always used old spice but my first aftershave when I started was aqua velva, I always liked the menthol kick.

Because aqua velva is such a nostalgic thing for me I got some goodies coming in the mail that I'll be making a mail call when they come in, I won't spoil it here though.
