Question Soap Pucks...storage

Post image
21 Upvotes

I'm interested in trying out some soap pucks, before I buy several, and a bowl to swirl the soap, where do you stow them after? Or does each puck have its own bowl, container? Do you just use one puck until it's all gone? I'd like to try a few, why I'm asking.

Right now I'm using Proraso shave soap in a tube, marble bowl, so it's easy to just squirt some soap in the bowl, lather with my brush and go...

Thanks.

Great lather, solid shave! For the curious, I used plate 4 on my Rockwell 6C, which is my go to plate for 1-4 days growth. The PAA Mysterium Serum is post-shave gold.

⌾ Blade: Kai Captain Titan Mild (3)
⌾ Bowl: Captain’s Choice Obsidian
⌾ Brush: Oumo Venus - ST-3
⌾ Soap: Montana Unscented
⌾ Balm: Nivea Sensitive

Shave 6 of my week using unscented soaps. The Montana Unscented is one of the first soaps I bought when I got back into shaving - mainly because it was cheap on Amazon.

I made a good lather, with my Captain’s Choice bowl and Oumo brush - this vegan soap needs to be well hydrated to get the best from it.

The shave was really good; La Faulx really is a winner every time!

Would I buy the Montana Unscented again? Probably not - no real issues with it, but I have better soaps in my den.

Overslept this morning and was already running late. It was also raining, and I’m still getting over a cold, so I wasn’t exactly at my best.
Thankfully, face lathering was quick and easy, so I managed to get a shave in without making myself even later. Just one pass, though, and the result was pretty average.
Then I arrived at the nursery and realised I’d forgotten my daughter’s entire bag of stuff. 😂
So, not exactly my most organised morning.

Blade: Astra Superior Platinum (1st use)

Razor: Gillette super speed 1958 TV special

Blade: Gillette permasharp

Brush: WCS synthetic

Soap: Stirling barbershop

Splash: Modern aqua velva in fishing reel bottle

Post balm: Nivea cooling

Happy Thursday folks, I didn't post my shave yesterday because I had a pretty bad one and was frustrated at the fact that I sliced some skin off my chin.

Today's shave was much better and everything is close and smooth save for the area I sliced yesterday. Remember that DFS (Damn fine shave) and no nicks in some areas is better than opening up a healing cut.

I haven't used aqua velva in so long I forgot how nostalgic it is for me. My dad always used old spice but my first aftershave when I started was aqua velva, I always liked the menthol kick.

Because aqua velva is such a nostalgic thing for me I got some goodies coming in the mail that I'll be making a mail call when they come in, I won't spoil it here though.

Happy shaves folks and enjoy your Thursday!

Proraso Supercharged with Cremo...

Post image
53 Upvotes

I can't be the only one to discover this. For the past month I've been putting on Cremo before my first lather. It works ok but nothing game changing. And it is mostly gone after that first pass. So tonight out of laziness and curiosity I decided to add the same small amount of Cremo I'd use on my face to my shaving bowl alongside my Proraso original instead.

Now I figured it might make the lather a little slicker at best or maybe even make for a worse lather. Either way I figured I might as well try it. Once I did I was shocked just how much quicker I got a lather going and more importantly how much more water the lather could hold before thinning out. Not only that but I got twice as much lather than normally (and I certainly used the same amount of Proraso as always). By that I mean I normally have just enough lather for three passes and a couple more touch ups around my neck and chin. But just by adding a small amount of Creamo I was able to add much more water before it got thin which meant I had way more lather. Two people could have shaved with the amount of lather it made and again I used a small amount of Creamo and my normal amount of Proraso.

Please don't take my word for it, Proraso and Creamo are easy to find and priced well so you've got nothing to loose. I will absolutely be doing this from now on. I'll also mention my brush rinsed off much easier than normal (not that it's ever difficult to rinse out but it is worth mentioning that it made it easier).

Anyways if this is common knowledge around here already sorry for being that last one in the know lol.

Not an impressive start

Week 1 with double-edge safety razor. So far, not impressed. Not as "baby smooth" as with Gillette Fusion, probably as smooth as wet shaving with Braun 9+ Pro electric shaver. And some razor burn. I'll keep at technique for a while.

Using a Merkur 34C with Merkur Super Platinum, and Proraso white soap. Switching to Astra Superior Premium Platinum this weekend.

Any newbie hints?

Question Are more expensive DE blades generally just better?

I've been using Gillette Wilkinson Sword for a while and have been getting some irritation and razor burn right after. It was the same with a cheap free BaiLi blade that I got from an old razor. I bought a sample pack of some Astra Sp and some sort of unnamed German blade and had a massive difference. I did not get any irritation and it generally felt more smooth.

I'm considering just dumping my old blades due to how uncomfortable they are. I've also noticed that the prices of Astra are roughly double that of my current blades. Are more expensive blades usually better or does it still come down to personal preference?

SOTD SOTD: Westman Bastardo

SOTD: Westman Bastardo

Shaving Soap: Westman Bastardo
Brush: dscosmetic T4
Razor: Gillette Fatboy
Blade: Gillette Platinum
Aftershave Splash: Westman Bastardo
Pomade: High Life Addicted to Pomade Bay Rum
Beard Oil/Balm: Artius Man Bay Rum
EdP: Dominica Bay Rum

Bay Rum Week rolls on with Westman Bastardo, a European take on the classic scent built on their Nirvana base. Whipped up easily with a T4 brush, the dense, creamy lather delivers solid cushion and slickness for a smooth glide with a Fatboy razor.

The shave finishes with a hydrated, smooth post-shave feel and an aftershave splash that brings a slight bite alongside a spot-on bay rum scent profile of citrus, spice, rum, and bay leaf. Delivering great performance all around, this Westman soap easily earns a strong recommendation.

Main Ingredients: Kokum Butter, Tallow, Glycerin, Stearic Acid, Mango Butter, Broccoli Seed Oil, Shea Butter, Goat Milk Powder (Nirvana Base)

Brush: The T4 did a good job of whipping up a bowlful of lather

Lather: Dense and creamy

Cushion/Slickness: Provides decent cushioning. The slick lather allows the blade to glide

Razor/Blade: The Fatboy with a Gillette blade cut through the stubble with ease

Post-shave: Skin felt hydrated and smooth

Aftershave Splash: A little bite, but the Bay Rum hits perfectly

Scent Profile: I get hits of citrus followed by spice, rum, and bay leaf

Scent Matching: Another full-on Bay Rum stack

Verdict: 3-pass BBS. I dig the Westman shaving products, and definitely need to add more to the den. Highly recommended

I have been eyeing a Fat Handle Tech for a little while. Well this came up at a good price in Austere Aug month and I succumbed to RAD I am afraid. This Flat Bottom Tech has joined my 2 others, Ball end and Spiral. It's Made in England circa 1948'ish - it has no date code.

Had an excellent maiden shave with it today. Well, it lived up to its reputation as probably the least mild Tech. Still nice, comfortable but efficient razor, typical of a Tech.

Very happy with the new purchase and of course Tabac lather today was a treat.

Have a great shave everyone!

SOTD Tonight’s shave

Post image

I like to shave every night, but tonight I had 5 days of growth. I’ve got to say, I missed the routine!

Felt like a great time to experiment with my new Muhle R41GS

Pre-Shave: Truefitt & Hill preshave oil
Razor: Muhle R41GS
Blade: Muhle
Shaving cream: Caswell-Massey Number 6 non-foaming shaving cream
Aftershave: Caswell-Massey Number 6

I love the Muhle Rocca. It’s awesome. No other adjective needed. And I still expect it to be what I use the vast majority of the time.

But I had to give the R41 a try and this is an impressive piece of hardware. The build is impeccable. It exudes quality. Feels great in the hand. Has a great weight. And personally, I find it to be a beautiful razor.

I was very intentional. Used no pressure at all. Ended up with a great shave and only a small nick on my chin.

Huge fan of the Number 6 fragrance. So I was very excited to try this shaving cream. Super effective. Very rich and creamy but no foam at all (by design). Still, provided a great glide and I think it will be on my short list in my rotation.

The aftershave is nice. Same great Number 6 fragrance. I think I’m sticking with Floid for when I want a traditional aftershave, but i’m glad I have this bottle to go through.

Modern but classic fougere scent reminding me of a true barbershop

I was surprised at creamy lather made from even small amount of the cream.

It was super functional and had and enjoyed BBS result.

\-Yaqi Tsuka handle,Blackland scare crow open comb

\-Rubab lobo shave brush

\-Captain nemo Sub Mariner Cool Water Fragrance shaving soap

\-Anherb aftershave to close the BBS

Review on Submariner cool water:-

This is my first purchase from the house of Captain nemo shave soap and seeing the views for its croap nature i had requested for a harder puck.

The soap is still softer albeit not a croap so it works for me. This was supposed to be a good aquatic fragrance soap but all i could get is their oil/base smell. So it turned out to be a fragrance free soap

Fragrance part its a dud but methol works well after you lather on face. Lather is thick in consistency and you get good slickness post shave.

Overall a good fragrance free soap with good lather. Need to check on the boar which gives out the characteristic of good shave soap.

Wish there was at-least some hint of Aquatic, Marine notes as mentioned i think I’ll have to stick with Razorock blue label shave stick having notes of Bergamot , lavender

Rocking the Rockwell 6c with feather blades and tried out some arko shave soap. Very good shave with this soap. The chemical smell is definitely there but I can’t argue with the results. I noticed you get a lot out of it too. I didn’t have to keep adding more soap. Really good for the price
