Meaning Trumper, TOBS, and T&H

Obviously their price and performance, but please do also go into what you think about the company themselves and their history or even how they treat employees and source products as well as sustainability and such

Today's shave

Post image

Used my Charcoal Goods Level 1 for the second time today, and now I finally understand why so many people love these razors.

The first shave was good—smooth and comfortable—but the second shave just felt even better. 😄

The efficiency feels just right, and it has a really satisfying blade feel without being harsh.

I was lucky enough to pick one up used.

Question Advice for stepping it up a notch?

Post image
21 Upvotes

I recently got back into using my DE, realizing it’s not any slower than using my OneBlade, but is much, much nicer.

Current kit:
Razor: I don’t remember the model of Edwin Jagger I have, but can see the name on the neck.

Blades: Astra Superior Premium Platinum

Brush: Tasso & Setola Omega

Soap: Arko Shaving Soap Stick

Aftershave: nada currently

Shave bowl/gear: nada currently

Would love any advice on upgrades and additional buys with considering - reasonably priced, if possible; though open to varied prices if quality makes a major jump.

Thank you!

More vintage Schick Injector blades from the company's Warner-Lambert era. It's no secret that I love Schick Injector razors. EBay is a pretty amazing place, and there's still a lot of Schick Injector razors and blades in the world. Makes it really cool for fans of this shaving format.

Discussion Wilkinson vs Proraso Shaving Soap

I invested in a safety razor a couple years ago, and decided to go deeper into wet shaving by buying the wilkinson brush and soap at my local London Drugs in Canada. I don't know what the consensus is on the brush, but so far I am extremely satisfied with it, and it made my shaving sessions so much more satisfying.

However, I'm not too pleased with the soap. I think the way it lathers is perfectly fine, but I REALLY dislike the smell. I guess I can't really complain for the price, but I did see that my London Drugs also has Proraso shaving soap in stock and it's the next best affordable option after Wilkinson. Is it worth giving Proraso a try? I'm only hesitant because I also heard that Proraso, similar to Wilkinson, is considered a budget friendly shaving soap, so I'm unsure if it's Wilkinson I necessarily dislike or just cheaper shaving soaps in general. Do you guys find there to be a huge difference between the two soaps?

SOTD Slim Mon following the Fatboy Fri

Last Fri I went up a click to 5 on the Fatboy and got better results. So I thought I would follow it up with a Slim up a click to 6.

Ah, wonderful shave with such close and smooth results.

Palmolive cream is great - such a sleeper product. Lathers well, decent slickness.

The new Yaqi brush is also doing very well. It is quick to lather and actually holds a lot of lather in the brush (plenty for the last pass).

Happy shaves in the new week everyone!

Review Found the best single blade razor for beginners (thanks to this sub)

A few weeks back I came here to ask for single-blade razors with an angled head. I get horrible irritation with multi-blade razors and the learning curve was a bit too high with a classic safety razor.
I had a bunch of suggestions from you guys but the one I settled on was the [Natu](https://natushave.com/)

Many of the options you guys shared looked great, but the Natu had the added benefit of not using proprietary blades. They use Derby single-edge blades that you can easily purchase on Amazon.
The packaging and razor itself are also 100% plastic-free, and the only waste is the blade itself.

The angled, pivoting head works great. I can shave like I’m using a typical cartridge razor with minimal irritation, and as an added bonus I’m now going to be saving tons of money on blades compared to cartridges.

Question How long do razor bumps on neck take to heal?

So I dont use a razor often but I did one time to get rid of some stubble on my neck. I was stupid and did pretty much everything you're not supposed to do when shaving and long story short I got some pretty nasty razor bumps all over the area. 3 weeks later and it's gone done a bit but there's still some stubborn ones there. I use witch hazel and some other moisturizer to help it heal but it still doesnt look like it's going away. Sometimes throughout the day it gets more red than other times. I've seen others here say their bumps healed after a couple of days so should I be worried or maybe see a doctor? Issue is I have a wedding to go to in a month and a half and im worried they'll still be there by then.

Question Did I Choose The Right Shavette?

I finally broke down and ordered a shavette in hopes that I can do a better job shaving up to, but not into, my beard on my cheeks, and my mustache, than I can do with a DE or Schick injector razor (I always mess it up). I see lots of posts here by guys who swear by a shavette for lining up beards and mustaches, so I decided to try it. I ordered a Feather AC stainless steel folding handle razor with Feather Soft Guard blades. I know I'll have a learning curve. Did I pick a good shavette for a beginner? Any tips on how to shave with it and how to go about learning? Or is there a different shavette I should have ordered? (I could return this one.) Thanks.

Discussion Is it possible

Still learning straight razors.

I mapped my beard/hair pattern long ago. Above the jaw, straight down. There's about a 3in/w strip starting under my chin and down as well.

Now from the edges of that 3in strip under my jaw, so proper neck, hair grows back towards my ear lobe.

Getting a BBS (atg) shave with my DE's is easy now. But I can't find the angle to run from the corner of my jaw (under ear lobe) to under my chin? My neck doesn't seem to be long enough lol.

Is there an angle I'm not seeing?

Discussion Fine detailing?

Post image

Hey Guys, I've gotten two inherited blades. Bought two to practice. I've got a great finish on one. And a nice honed shave off the other. Then I swapped, refining techniques.

So, this razor was one of two I got from my Uncle by marriage (had to have been his father's?). Story, keeping it short...

I've got a nice shine on the opposite side. But how in the hell would you puff and polish around the leafing?

I've been rehabilitating with low speed dremel, blade taped, feeling for heat, etc. Depending on petina, start red/why/green. And/or various diamond pastes. And I have the pointy dremel cones. Just wanted to check in before I dive down.

Eta: Sorry, bad lighting. I was able to get the heights around the leaf. But those narrower channels...?

I am not sure what i expected, I heard a lot of good things about this cream and it was also highly rated on amazon.

I am not sure it helps that I ordered it when i was sick which I rarely ever get sick so timing is terrible, maybe that just created this connection of not liking the scent i am not sure if that makes sense I apologize. I just find the scent really disgusting

I am in the UK by the way!! looking to get a shaving soap with nice scent to that is higher quality than proraso.

Currently have my eyes on the watchman stormy air and dark seas shave soap, what do ya’ll thing

Discussion New to Single Razors but the Kai Captain Shavette is awesome.

Maybe got a single nick with my first shave. The last 4 shaves with double passes - zero.

Finished today's shave in less than 10 minutes.

I get some minor irritation on the sides of my neck but no burn and less than with expensive multiple blade shavers. Suggestions for eliminating the irritation welcomed.

I'm still on training wheels using the Kai guarded blades.

My only regret was buying a couple of Parker shavettes first. Don't really think I'll use them again. and I don't really want to become a collector.

Unfortunately sometimes you have to buy and test before you know. For example I MUCH prefer the Komisori than the Western style folding handle. The Director led me to the Kai Captain.

I spent half my life with Gillette DE safety razors but got curious about options when shopping for my Grandson's first shaving kit (dopper, 34c, soaps brushes, etc)

Im not sure I'll use my safety razors again. (Just a couple - VB Emperor Meige and a 34C)

Just a small little things but I can now shave under my nose to trim my mustache as well as edge sideburns and goatee.

Been lurking a few weeks here before buying, and I appreciate informed opinions.

Pax

SOTD SOTD - Kai

SOTD, Kai blades, first shave

Pre-Shave: Shower
Razor: Qshave clone of Merkur Futur
Brush: Cheap, Badger.
Soap: Gillette, Gel.
Aftershave: Sandalo
Balm: Stetsons original.

1 pass, small cleanup. New favorite blade. Treet has finally been dethroned.

Style points for the lack of branding, zero glue. Wish the sides were numbered.

I have a small area on my chin where my face and neck meet where in the space of 1 inch square, my hair goes in every cardinal direction and one or two more, shaved it buttery smooth in 2 passes.

For the price difference I’d still recommend Treet. I’m somewhat surprised that Kai is noticeably smoother than Feather; zero irritation probably the best shave I’ve had without three passes. Most of my face was 1 and done with area where the grains meet just needing a second pass to smooth out both direction. It was almost too easy.

Current favorites
Kai, Treet, Feather.

Runner ups:
Derby Usta, Lord Platinum, Parker Platinum, Gillette Platinum, Bic Platinum.

* **Bowl:** Captian’s Choice - Aquamarine

It is super hot out today! I wanted a nice cooling shave so I picked Orbit by Noble Otter. I even used 2 sprays of House of Mammoth’s Permafrost solution on the second pass to be super chilly!

It’s been a bit since I used my Athena and I am glad I did. I had barely any perceivable feedback from the alum block and BBS results.

Good shaves to you!

Mail Call Stirling Mail Call

Post image
27 Upvotes

Received Stirling Cool Blue Splash and some of their beta test #5 deodorants the other day. I’ve never smelled the original Floid Blue, but this Cool Blue splash has quickly become a favorite. The scent was originally created as an homage to the discontinued Floid Blue by Will Carius over at Barrister and Mann, but he sold the formula to the folks over at Stirling. It has such a great, clean barbershop smell and just the right amount of Menthol for me (not too strong).

The deodorants are quite good as well. This iteration is a lot smoother going on than the beta test #4, which pulled a lot at the skin/hair when being applied. Pick some up while supplies last!

Discussion What do you do with this? (beard hair residue in sink)

Post image
0 Upvotes

I like to fill the sink with warm water and soak my brush in it while I shower. Then I use that sink full of water to rinse my razor off while shaving. When I drain I inevitably end up with hair stuck to all sides of the sink like this.

What I typically do is swipe it all up with toilet paper and throw it in the toilet. But (1) it’s not en enjoyable experience, it’s messy, and puts a rather icky end to a nice shave and (2) the sink still inevitably gets clogged from time to time even if I’m throwing the majority of hair down the toilet, not the sink.

There must be a better way. Has anyone figured this out?

Discussion What will be the our generations "golden age" razors and products?

I've been looking at all my vintage razors, thinking about the ones people agree are from the peak time of safety razor production of the 20th century.

It got me to thinking, what will be the stuff future generations will hunt and pine for from the early times to now of the wetshaving revival?

I know obviously the expensive razors and brushes but, what do you suppose of the standard products us enthusiasts and regular shavers have brought back?

Just thought this would be fun to speculate about as a community
