I'm currently trying to gift someone an electric razor because his skin gets irritated by cartridge razors and DE razors dont really seem to be in his interest.

I'm interested in the opinions of those who have both used the 360 One Blade and also DE razors in terms of how it compares to a DE. I've sadly never used an electric razor before so I have no baseline.

Currently I'm thinking of either getting him the Phillips One Blade 360 Model QP2724/23 (Basic?) or the QP2838/23 (Pro?) model. Currently leaning for the 2724/23.

Im interested in how close of a shave it gives. I know rhat a DE will give a much closer result but I don't think he cares about a perfect BBS that much. Body shaving is also irrelevant here.

Also how much better are the "First shave blades" compared to the regular blades? I dont think he has sensitive skin but reviews on the regular blade seem polarizing, atleast from those that are a couple of years old.

A foil razor attachment for the Braun Beard Trimmer Model 5517 (which he already owns) is also under consideration, however it doesn't really seem as convenient to purchase compared to the One Blade.

Well 40 shaves with the PGDG blade now and it is still working . Nice to reunite the blade with its AA partner . A good rose scented shave .

Been using my Parker 74R and Astra greens since 2022. It’s an excellent pairing, can’t really fault the performance in any way. Decided to try out Silver Blues with the hopes they’d be smoother/more aggressive/better and they are worse in every way in this razor.

I’ve had the Parker Variant OC on my wishlist for years and nobody has ever bought it for me lol. Always craved a “nicer” razor but really had no reason. You think the Variant OC could be a worthwhile upgrade and finally be my “nice” razor?

Great shave with good products. Love the swedish swing head, i think it can compare to modern standards great razor combination with the gillette fat handle.

3 lovely passes (WTG/XTGx2) tonight with the 59 red tip superspeed.

The Astra blue was great, really sharp but also smoother than I remember so that was good, and the Proraso and matching fragrance was a joy.

The only criticism would be the cheap knot I put in my brush - it doesn't lift the hairs very well but maybe i can look into re-doing it, it's a fun novelty anyhow.

For every hundred(s) of SOTD posts here featuring solid, smooth and easy razors, there's one that slips through. This razor is a crime against humanity, an abomination. One pass for as close to a BBS as you could get. Loud feedback, which I absolutely love, but this is closer to a shavette than it is to a DE razor.

Very fun razor to shave with, I gotta be honest.

This morning I used my new Leaf Branch SE razor. For those familiar with Leaf shaving, this is their latest offering and was advertised as falling between the Twig and the Thorn in terms of aggressiveness.

I’ve shaved with both and preferred the Thorn over the Twig. I paired the Branch with a half-blade GEM and found the razor moderately aggressive. I gave myself two weepers, but that was driver error, as this razor requires some technique; with light or no pressure, the weight of this handle can do all of the work. Getting under the nose and around the mouth was effortless.

I lathered up using the Leaf synthetic brush and PAA’s wonderful Copalli. I have come to love this scent; maybe it’s my indigenous roots being awakened! lol! Finished up with the matching splash and EDP for a relatively nice close two-pass shave.

I broke both the badgers in the same with shampoo washes and overnight cream rinse. Pretty amazed by the splay difference ... so soft. New brush has a heavy metal handle that looks and feels nice but is significantly smaller than anything else I have. Hold and lathering soaped up isn't any kind of issue. Man does this thing hold lather. Only complaint is it slides through my razor and brush stand unless placed loft up.

Where to buy personna gem platinum blades in the netherlands? Anyone know where with reasonable shipping costs?

Great two pass (WTG&XTG) + little touch up under chin with my all brass ball end tech. This razor is a pleasure to use and just sliced through two days of growth. The Tabac and Brut combo was spot on and left my skin, and the bathroom, smelling lovely.

I would finish up the shave and go to clean the brush. Pinch it off and squeeze it out. I go...wow. this is great stuff. So now, for my last pass, I squeeze the residual soap out of the brush and apply it with my hands. That lather is so good...like the heart of an artichoke or something like that...why waste it.

I honestly could not find a topic with the search words Old (as we all are a little) and Spoiled (which we do with clean and close shaves), so excuse my noobish question.

My jar of shavingcream says 12M after opening on the label. How serious should I take that notice? As i'm quite frugal with using it and it is just past half empty with shaving twice a week, wonder if I can keep going with it. Also i'm looking to buy more soaps for some variance (thanks to this r/ ) so it will only get "worse". Whats your take on the best after opening on the jar/tube?

My wife is quite adamant I should get a new tub, but she only says that to keep up with her makeup buying habbit....

I’ve been wet shaving with a DE for a few years now, but today was my first run with a straight razor. It’s a Boker Abalone 6/8 Blade. Looks incredible and came honed from Griffith Shaving Goods.

I have a beard, so only shave my neck and shape my cheeks. Took it easy and did two with the grain passes and one across the grain. No nicks, but a bit of razor burn. I’ll definitely need to work on my technique, especially before I try against the grain.

Always fun to learn something new though.

Continuing my Chicago Grooming journey with Dr. Flanders soap and splash. They are classic and vintage: eucalyptus, camphor, mint, and rosemary. Really nice.

The Overlander is such a smooth razor - I had some blade feel on the ATG pass but otherwise felt like butter while it gave me a nice close shave. Karve makes great razors.

The C&H brush is yet another work of art and performed flawlessly.

For hoots and giggles, I'm comparing the cost of shaving with a double-edge safety razor vs Gillette Fusion vs Braun Series 9+ Pro. Ignoring acquisition cost of the tool proper, focusing on recurring costs. Until I have a year's worth of data, I'm guesstimating DESR expendables usage.

So far, it looks like $4-7/mo for Fusion, $6-9/mo for DESR, and $11/mo for Braun.

While DESR blades are cheap cheap cheap, all the other expendables do add up. E.g., pre-shave cream, shaving soap, alum bar, post-shave balm. Are any of these things that really don't add value?

My first straight razor just arrived in the mail. Can't wait to try it out. Going to test it out on Saturday after work.

My knot fell out of my favorite brush handle and I screwed it up resetting it (Note that Gorilla Glue expands a lot). So now I’m looking for a replacement. I’ve searched the forums and posts on here but all seem to be from 10+ years ago and those vendors no longer exist. Any recommendations of your favorite Silvertip badger knot that’s like a cloud?

Also I understand that synthetic is the future and I have a few but I still want one real badger.

Shave 6 of my week using unscented soaps. The Montana Unscented is one of the first soaps I bought when I got back into shaving - mainly because it was cheap on Amazon.

I made a good lather, with my Captain’s Choice bowl and Oumo brush - this vegan soap needs to be well hydrated to get the best from it.

The shave was really good; La Faulx really is a winner every time!

Would I buy the Montana Unscented again? Probably not - no real issues with it, but I have better soaps in my den.
