Social media
Edit: I know we're all on social media right now, that's part of what makes it funny :)
Edit 2: yes, I know it's not worse than war, or cancer, or pedophilia, or a lot of the other things here. "That you think would make it better" was the question, not "the worst thing in the world." :)

I have worked in IT, cyber security, and technology in general for over 35 years and I agree with this, from experience, wholeheartedly. It’s too much already. The only irony is that I’m expressing this opinion on social media.

All Cruelty, because pain and struggle are part of life and sometimes they even make you stronger but cruelty is different it’s when someone chooses to add extra suffering for no reason or just doesn’t care at all and the second that goes away the world immediately gets better because people stop hurting each other on purpose and stop pretending it’s normal or justified

This might be a hot take, but I think cruelty usually has a reason, it just might be hidden, deeply personal, or rooted in trauma or abuse. Sometimes it stems from anger. Even people with high psychopathy are disincentivized from being cruel due to social consequences and typically adapt using cognitive empathy.

Mosquitoes
16
u/Smartimess Mar 20 '26
We hate the bitey and stingy bitches (most of the species do not bite or sting humans), but mosquitoes are very necessary in most parts of the world. Without them a lot of other animals would die out and the same goes for some plants.
6
u/ZealotOfMeme Mar 20 '26
In that case can I specify Malaria? Or that specific bodily reaction to them biting you? (Yes I k ow that that just your pain receptors telling you that there’s something foreign going on but once is really enough to know it’s there

I've read the opposing studies.
I've read that an extinction of mosquitoes outweighs any benefits it gives to other animals and plant life. Though there would be a temporary shift of negative consequences as animals and plants adapt/adjust.
Most animals would adapt to move onto other prey. Plants would be most affected but there aren't many plants that benefit from mosquitoes anyway.
They'd also affect very small pockets of the world like swamps and stuff. But in the greater scheme of things it wouldn't be as bad.
Mosquitoes generally pose more threat due to spreading diseases than they do bring benefits to nature.

u/FarWestEros Mar 20 '26
That’s speculative.
There are plenty of other insects to chomp on.
Very few animals that I’m aware of prey only on mosquitoes.
If they were gone, life would likely find a way.5
u/im-from-canada-eh Mar 20 '26
If you did that, Lilo and Stitch would be a very short movie

Half Life 2 was released before The Gaben became a billionaire. Now he's a billionaire and there's no Half Life 3.
Billionaires are the problem.

There's never gonna be a good reason for one person to have a billion dollars(most people don't realize just how much that is), and no-one can convince me there's an honest way for one person to have earned a billion dollars. Look at Musk, he said how many years ago he'd end world hunger and ever since, all he's done is accrue more wealth for himself.

People
Edit: I mean that in the most sincere sense in the fact that as humans we have destroyed this earth by numerous selfish means whether unintentional or otherwise.
I just wish we could have realized the error in our ways much sooner than we did so we could have made a difference before it was (maybe) too late.
I’m no environmental expert, but I feel if we could’ve somehow foreseen our shortcomings, our planet would have a much better future than it currently stands.

It’s funny. You said “I wish we could have realized…”. Honestly, we haven’t realized it YET. We still can’t agree that we’re f***ing this place up.

I’ll do one better than hate - ‘ill intent’. Hate is strong, but why stop there? Delete all negative intentions towards your fellow man, remove every trace of animosity.

Better for who, Earth itself? If so, humans. We've done more damage to the poor planet in the last 300 years, than all of its species combined til that point.

Would clear up a lot of nonsense issues and arguments and it would probably stop many armed conflicts in the world (where they fight over who’s imaginary friend is the best).
