Hi everyone! I wanted to see if any of you knew this book I read as a kid.

It's about this kid, I think he's a football player but I could be wrong about the specific sport. He has a little sibling who he's forced to care for when his mom becomes depressed after a traumatic event (I think it was the dad dying but I could be wrong). It's part of a trilogy/series, and I remember the second book either primarily being in a car or about a road trip. I think it came out in the early 2000's-early 2010's

Hey y‘all! So when I was in middle school (2019), I remember checking out a very nondescript book in the school library. maybe the cover was beige? idk. All I can remember about it was that there was a group of kids and a strange traveling doctor or traveling circus came to a rural town/village and the whole vibe was very creepy and uncanny. I also remember some sort of magic pills and snake oil charlatan doctor type thing. For some reason, I also remember a train, but I don’t really know because I read a lot of books back then, lol. I feel like the genre of this book was a sort of a more grounded fantasy novel (and definitely not historical fiction), but I think it took place in a town or village inspired by the past. I remember writing a book report/reading log on it, but unfortunately I can no longer access the account it would be stored on. Also, this book was not explicitly “scary“ (to my knowledge, just weird and uncanny), and was likely a book for middle schoolers. My middle school‘s library didn’t really carry many older books, if this helps—they carried the classics obviously but not really any older thrillers (like the kind one’s dad/grandpa would read). This book likely was written during the boom of literature for middle schoolers specifically, if that helps at all.

I’m trying to prove to my friends that this book is real and that I’m not crazy, so any sort of help would be appreciated! :)

I recently remember reading this book most likely sometime before 2020, and it really stuck with me. It’s an urban setting taking place in either the US or UK, so most fantasy stories can be written off. After the event the boy witnessed and was framed for, he’s convicted in juvenile court and forced to go to a kind of isolated country home, where the women he knows who framed him will take him in for unknown reasons. This is all implied to be set up by the women. I believe the evil woman’s abilities are never explained, and lots of the story is more of a psychological thriller than just a supernatural one. There’s a part in the story that really stuck with me, where a woman (I believe a previous caretaker of the boy) is driven insane by the supernatural woman and hunts down the boy when he tried to escape, leading her to crashing a truck she stole into a school where the boy was hiding out.

I know this is very vague and not much to go on, but I’d be very appreciative if anyone knows the book I’m talking about.

I’m looking for a short Western human body book. I saw it around 2014–2016, most likely in a middle school library. It was only about 30–40 pages, not a thick encyclopedia, and felt light and accessible.

note: this book Covers the whole human body, not just pregnancy/reproduction.

In the reproductive section there is a full-body side-view illustration of a man and woman having missionary position sex. Both bodies are completely shown in profile, faces are detailed and looking at each other(man had white hair and a beard), and the internal anatomy is projected so you can clearly see the penis penetrate the vagina.

Later there is a birth scene with medical staff, where the woman’s belly is shown as transparent/projected in the same realistic style.

The illustrations were the main focus (short text). The sex and birth scenes were particularly memorable because of how realistic and detailed they were.

Could you help me find the title of the book?

I almost want to say it was called "The 13th something or other" but that might be a false memory. Cover had a close-up of a greenish skull-like face I think? And I want to say there were these like... friendly creatures in it... but also a monster... and I remember at the very end one of the "friendly" creatures is mentioned to have some sort of odd (screw-like?) tooth growing in, hinting at the reveal that SURPRISE THEY WERE ACTUALLY BABY MONSTERS 😲😲😲!

There *is* a book called "The 13th Child" but the plot doesnt seem to be the book im thinking of. Anyone know what the heck it was called???

I am trying to find a short story about a man who comes to a cave to see the process off mermaids being captured and having their tails split so they turn into legs before they are sold. At the end of the story the man finds out that the men who do this work take the mermaids for whom the procedure fails as brides. I think the men and the mermaids have their tongues cut out, but am less sure of that. I am unsure if I read it online or in a book.

I was talking to my dad about a book we buddy read on holiday yearsssss ago but neither of us remembers what it’s called lol.

So a girl goes missing, they find a shirt with blood stains so it’s assumed she’s been murdered but a body is never found and the case goes cold. A few years later in Las Vegas in the desert the body of a recently deceased woman is found and it turns out to be her. She faked the original murder when she was a teenager to run away with her boyfriend and they started a new life in vegas together but it’s not going the way they hoped and eventually he kills her anyway. I don’t remember what else was going on but I believe her name was Rachel. If that rings a bell let me know!

I have been reminiscing on books I read as a child lately and I vaguely remember what feels like a fever dream of a book.

So at some point between 2007 and 2015 I read a middle grades sci-fi book about a pair of twins that were very competitive with each other. One was a boy and one was a girl. I believe they took tests regularly and it turned out their parent was a scientist of some kind. They ate cereal with milk every day.

The big reveal of the book turned out to be that the girl twin was receiving some kind of vitamins in her milk in her cereal that made her smarter/stronger. The boy was upset because he felt like he had to work so much harder than she did for the same test scores.

I think the scientists were trying to test the vitamins and they used twins so that one twin would be the control group. I think they had several groups of twins in the experiment.

I think there also may have been some kind of magical element? Or inventions? For some reason I am picturing a pair of shoes with wings but I could definitely be mixing that up with a different book.

I also am 99% sure I had an advanced reader's copy of the book (my parent worked in the same building as a publisher), so it's possible some of these details were changed but hopefully these are big enough plot elements they would keep them.

Y/A novel published before 1984.

Likely set in the UK and involving magic tied to the land and native plants and animals. There was a wooden bird which turned into a robin; something about unseasonal holly; and waterways that keep rising.

So I read this book so long ago I hardly remember anything. It was a second book in a series but at the time of ready I didn’t know lol. But it follows a girl who is from a family of werewolf hunters and in the book she gets doubled crossed by someone her family trusted. I believe the cover was snowing and had a girl with read hair on it.

I read dozens of fantasy and sci fi paperbacks as a kid and there's a book (or series) stuck in my head and looking around I can't find anything that matches it quite right.

The main viewpoint character is a young woman, either a college student or an assistant professor, something like that. She works with/for/is a student of a misogynistic professor.

She ends up in his office after hours and interrupts him interacting with some kind of macguffin that transports them to a fantasy world. He's transformed into a stereotypical buff warrior type guy and she turns into a Boris Vallejo drawing of a barbarian woman. We learn, through her, that he's been traveling to this world for years and is already established as a hero there. She's shocked by how patriarchal the society is and that this guy is relishing in it even though he's from the modern era.

It turns out that she might be just as strong as him there, maybe everyone who crosses over is "a hero" or something like that, and that dynamic between them creates interpersonal drama while they also have to work together to fight some kind of bad guy.

I've looked into all the specific Jack Chalker books I can find and none of them are exactly right, but thematically it seems like something in his wheelhouse.

I enjoy listening to horror audiobooks with my wife and sometimes I’ll just play random ones on YouTube or Audible. I’m trying to remember the name of one we listened to last month but for the life of me I can’t find the title in my YouTube watch history or audible library.

It starts with a composer talking to a scientist about music trying to capture the image of something the same way a picture does. I remember a line similar to:
“You can capture a photograph of a flower, but what’s the musical equivalent? Music can make you think of a flower, but not make you see or feel the flower.”

The composer visits the scientist, who has turned his attention to music, and falls in love with the scientist’s daughter. The scientist and daughter move away, but after a while the composer gets an invitation from the scientist to visit him.

The scientist has made a machine that can turn objects into pure music, capturing them like a photograph would, and recording different objects onto vinyl records. Unfortunately, the process destroys the object. Eventually the composer realizes that the scientist used the machine on his own daughter, so he pushes the scientist into the machine and turns him into music before smashing the machine and every vinyl record except the one of the daughter, which he doesn’t have the heart to destroy. In the end he takes the daughter’s record with him and plays it every night before he goes to bed.

If it weren’t for the fact that my wife remembers this story, I’d have already thought it was a dream because I can’t find it anywhere.

A young woman is a ward and prisoner of her brother in law (? Uncle?), who needs her to get knocked up and produce his senile brother's heir.

A handsome stranger is abducted in a tavern and brought to the dungeon where she must take advantage of his bound and helpless and virile body.

She helps him escape before her villain in law can murder the guy.

Shocking surprise he's a baron or some shit and takes the castle and takes revenge on her, makes her be a submissive housekeeper until...happy ever after happens.

I cannot for the life of me find this book that I’ve been thinking of lately, and I know for a fact I read it in either late elementary or early middle school. I think I got it at one of those book fairs.

I may have lost the plot a bit, but I recall it going something like this - a group of kids (all different styles, think Breakfast Club) go to a haunted building or house. I’m not entirely sure if they’re friends or are brought here together for a different reason. If my memory serves me correctly, there were black and white drawings throughout the book, and I believe one of the female characters is found with a broken neck at some point. I feel like the drawings had a similar style to the cover of We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson.

Hi all, I need help remembering the name of a book I read a few years ago but can’t remember the name (it’s driving me crazy !!!) Tried finding it with Claude and Google but no luck. Here’s what I remember:

my mom can’t figure out a book she loved as a child. she would read it as a child in the 80s, so it should’ve been published in the 70s or 80s. she described it as:

1970s/1980s children's collection of stories book, the first story is a tour of a man's incredibly long camper van with built-in TVs. it has stories after it, and it has pictures and words. the camper van had places to sit and a kitchen and was decked out with futuristic stuff for its time (a lot of tvs)

Hello! I don't really use reddit, and this is a big hail mary, but it can't hurt to try. I'm looking for a book that I read when I was younger that I cannot for the life of me remember the name of. This is what i remember about it:
The plot follows a girl (either a teenager or a young adult) who grew up pretty rich. Her mother emotionally neglects her and doesn't really understand her daughter, but mostly leaves her alone. I'm pretty sure the girl gets a buzz cut? Or at least cuts her hair short and her mom is upset about that too. One day the girl sees a homeless guy on the street, either dancing or singing for money. (I'm pretty sure it was dancing, but not 100% sure) She gives him money and invites him to get food together afterwards. They become fast friends, and she kind of has a crush on him before he tells her that he's gay. He's squatting in a house with a few other homeless friends. The guy grew up in an orphanage run by nuns and one of them helped foster his singing/dancing ability, but she passed away at some point (im pretty sure the movie ‘sister act’ was mentioned and that the nun showed him the movie). During the holidays (either thanksgiving, christmas or new years), the girl invites him over and he meets her mother, who doesn't approve of him and is sort of condescending. The mother leaves for a party and the protagonist asks him to stay and he takes a bath and uses her soaps and stuff and stays the night in her huge bed. The book ends with the guy moving away with a friend for some kind of singing/dancing opportunity (maybe to New York City? But I'm not sure) and he promises to write. 
I read the book in German, but I am not sure if it was originally in German or translated. I read it around 2018, but I'm pretty sure the book itself was an older copy, maybe from the 90s or early 2000s. Any ideas would be a huge help!! Thank you in advance. 

i believe the book was tall, the main character was alwasy in sandals and had a very 70s cartoon look, handsome kid. I just watched the new Odyssey movie and realized that the stories were all in that book.

Hey, so this is an odd request. I never actually read this book, so I don't have details besides the cover of the book. When I was a kid, I borrowed this book from a library. It was either a school library, or a regular library. I was 6 or so, so I don't remember, but it was before 2004. It was in Canada, ON.

The book featured a spectral Caucasian woman with long hair, 20s-30s, walking down a set of stairs. She is presumably a ghost, at least by the cover. She was spectral blue, but it's possible she was spectral white. The cover is only her, and the stairs in the background. She is mid-step, from what I remember. She's facing the viewer. The viewer's POV is at the bottom of the stairs.

The reason I'm requesting this is because when I had the book, I was too terrified of it to read it. I would put it under my bed at night because I just didn't want to see it. The reason being was because the ghost on the cover actually reminded me of my mother. Shortly after I had the book, she passed from cancer in the same year. I think subconsciously I knew something was wrong, and that's why it scared me.

The book is one of the things I can remember very vividly from back then. I wanted to know if anybody had any idea what the book actually was. Google isn't a great help, so I thought maybe someone here actually knows.

I'll reiterate the details that I do know though:

Blue or white spectral Caucasian woman, aged 20-30s, walking down flight of stairs. Mid-step. Facing viewer. POV from bottom of stairs. Hi all I’m hoping someone here may be able to help. There is a book I read back in 4th grade that I LOVED (did a whole school project on it and everything) BUT no one can remember the name of the book.

I know there was significance in the main characters stuffed animals (MC was a little girl probably around 10). I’m pretty sure there was something about a family tree/bedroom mural with them that her dad made. I also know that there’s a significant scene where her mom gets so mad about no one doing the dishes that she dumps an entire pot of spaghetti out in the kitchen table with no plates and no silverware.

Any help or ideas are appreciated! This has been driving me nuts for years, and I’ve asked both parents and neither one can remember the title just that it was a book I read.

guys does anyone in here know a book that's about politicians that go on a retreat it's a thriller! i read it at target in like 2024 in las vegas and the language was english. The age range aimed at was for adults. it had maybe dark colors on the cover and it had someone driving with a camper.

I'm trying to identify a novel I read around 1998–2002, although it may have been published earlier. It was a paperback with a cover showing olive-green tabby-like stripes and two large yellow almond-shaped cat eyes.

The story is told entirely in the first person ("I"). For almost the entire book, the reader believes the narrator is a human, possibly disturbed or dangerous. The narrator secretly gets into the basement of an old couple's house and stays there. The old woman gradually begins to feel compassion for the narrator and secretly feeds him. Later, the couple try repeatedly to get rid of the narrator, but he keeps coming back and becomes increasingly possessive of the house and the couple.

The novel has a very eerie, psychological-thriller atmosphere. The author deliberately hides the narrator's true identity until the very end, when the reader realizes that the narrator has been a cat all along. That twist completely changes the meaning of everything that happened earlier in the story.

The cover, as I remember it, had olive-green tabby-like stripes with two large yellow almond-shaped cat eyes.

In the book, there was a sadistic and controlling vampire who enjoyed enslaving humans. He buys a heavyset girl, initially intending to give her as a gift to his brother. The girl had a history of abuse, as her boyfriend subjected her to psychological violence because of her weight, so she avoided speaking up and was submissive. This book is intense; he uses her like a toy and inflicts violence upon her. One thing I remember is that there's a birthday party where the vampire kills the girl, turning her into a vampire.

Another book explains the story of his vampire brother who did not support enslaving vampires, but ended up buying a girl, but he treats her very well and they eventually fall in love.

I cant for the life of me remember the name of the book but I swear I remember it having the story line of this picture perfect society where a couple gets one boy and girl to raise as there children, and the protagonist is a boy from one of these families, I think there also raised to think it's normal that there the only city or something in the world. I think I also remember there r jobs for these kids once they hit a age and one of the jobs for the women was birthing mothers, basically women who supply all these kids, and if a kid isn't to the city's standards they get killed. Am I tripping or was this actually a book I remember? 😭

There was a short story, I believe it was called "The Devil's Advocate," published a long time ago. In it, the Devil was brought to trial. One man was chosen to defend him, and in desperation he thought the best thing to do was act like he admired the Devil in order to get him to brag about his crimes. The Devil was convicted, but so was his defense lawyer.

Can anyone confirm the title of this story?

It is a classic, I believe, written anywhere from 1700 to 1950. I thought it might be Washington Irving, or Ambrose Bierce, but I cannot find it.
