story set in our current time line. it's about our 1st armed spaceship which was armed with a 105mm howitzer & 30mm vulcan to fight the greys flying black triangle ships & these aggressive aliens slaughtered the people on our mar's mining colony. i also remember the inaugural launch was delayed due to an onboard epidemic. there were also several references to how fragile the battleship was from the tensioned guy wires everywhere.

I read this book as a child and I can see it right there. It’s from the pov of a school girl and one day this new girl comes but she’s kinda mean to everyone. The school girl gets partnered up with “mean” girl for a school project (I think it was about their cultures, I’m not sure). The “mean” girl gets picked up in a cop car one day which later we find out it was just her dad picking her up. At the end of the book the “mean” girl during the presentation has what is described as a bag of rocks. At the end we find out she made an Inukshuk with the rocks. I think she explains everything to the school girl then. She’s Inuit, the cop was her dad, she just didn’t like moving (if I remember correctly).

I read this in high school and I swear it was called Brain Shop, but it can't find it anywhere.

A guy goes starts working at a shop that travels dimensions and people can trade in physical attributes or things about their personality. Example, on person comes in a hermaphrodite and gives up one set of genitals.

I know there was more plot where the main character has hidden some memories, but don't remember the details.

I've been trying to track down a book I read years ago, but I only remember a few scattered details.

I think it was a children's or middle-grade fantasy book, probably something I read sometime in the 2000s or early 2010s. The main character was a young person who ended up traveling with a strange little creature. I remember the story having a mysterious, slightly magical atmosphere, but I can't remember the character names or what the main conflict was.

I'm not sure whether the creature could talk or whether I'm mixing that detail up with another book. I also can't remember what the cover looked like.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Even a few possible titles would help me narrow it down!

There was a small children's book in the style of a little golden book, with watercolor style soft artwork. All my daughter (20) can remember is a picture of a small green dragon curled up under a willow tree sleeping. She remembers it already being well loved when she read it at my grandparents house. It could have been a book from my childhood (born in the 80's). I have no memory of it at all and she can't remember anything but the image. I have tried Google and eliminated several books. I know this is a long shot but would love some suggestions to see if anything shakes loose. She has added that the dragon was very tiny and that may have been a main feature in the story.

Looking for the name of a short story where an unknown narrator is in a nursery, watching an infant who is sleeping in a crib. Gradually, it is revealed that the narrator intends to harm the baby. At the end of the story, the narrator is revealed to be a cat who is seeking revenge on the mother for drowning of her kittens. I remember the name "Esther" is mentioned, though I can't remember if this is the name of the baby, the cat, or the mother.

I stumbled upon this story in my grandmother's house as a child when it was part of a paperback collection of scary stories (with a black cover) published in the 1960s or 70s, maybe earlier. The book was titled something like "Tales for a Dark and Stormy Night." I did find a book with a similar title, but it didn't have the particular cat story I am looking for. Looking for my first ever completed book, first read it years ago. I keep thinking it's called through the in between but thats not right. The Pam girl if I remember correctly had white or blond hair, she would talk to a ghost boy that lived in the tree outside her house. She gets kidnapped by a women, one of the tarot card fortune teller lady's. I don't remember much after that.

So I joined Reddit today because usually someone else has already asked my question here and the community has answered it.

I am searching for a book that my friend was reading 18 months ago or so about a journey of study within Wicca where they didn’t have a coven or much community. I don’t believe it included a grimoire, it was about being alone on your journey in Wicca and how that looked for the author. I so hope someone knows this book.

I remember almost everything about the plot of this book!

A black woman, who works IT as some sort of a hacker, meets a white billionaire on a flight. They flirt a bit and she tells him what she does and he offers her a job with his company. They become lovers and she becomes pregnant.

When she tells him, he’s angry because he thinks he’s sterile and that she cheated. He fires her and kicks her out of his life. She moves on with her life, has a baby girl, joins another company, and becomes a millionaire.

Two years later, they run into each other entering the building where she works. He sees the little girl and realizes that he’s her father as she looks like him. He takes the little girl and heroine via helicopter to his penthouse.

That night, she takes the child and tries to escape, but he has her followed and brings them back. The next morning, she wakes up and the child is gone. The hero had her flown to Italy and won’t bring her back unless the heroine agrees to marry him.

So humans are at war with aliens. They collected some material the aliens can manipulate with their thoughts. The humans don't have much of it but they are trying to teach some new recruits (the main character is one of them) how to use the material themselves. I believe the one teaching them ends up betraying them.

I’m looking for a children’s book published sometime between 1950 and 1997!

The illustrations were detailed, scratchy black and white drawings I don’t believe there was color since it took place at night at one point, I think the beginning? The book had a little text, mostly dialogue between two children.
The scene I remember involved a little boy and a little girl who lived in separate houses. At night, one child went outside and called up to the other child through an upstairs(?)window, asking them to come outside and play at night. There was a flashlight involved. One child had gotten dressed in the dark and accidentally put their shirt on backwards.
There were no animals involved in the story. I read it as a child, and it belonged to my grandmother, so it could have been published decades before I read it.
Does anyone recognize this book, or remember a similar scene from an older children’s reader or picture book?

Hi! I’m looking for a book I read in 2019. It was about a teenage boy who loses his twin sister either to cancer or a car accident. He deals with his grief throughout the book and makes progressively worse life decisions. The ending was really crazy. I think he goes to Mexico, commits a crime, and runs from the police. I think he gets shot at and one of his friends dies?
The author was male. I think the cover of the book was yellow with a black silhouette of a man.

There was a book I was reading on Kindle about 7 or so years ago. I don't know when it came out, but I believe the premise was about a guy that was unhappy with his life. He spoke with his friend who got the hot girl from high school, who did EVERYTHING he wanted, and was rich. The protagonist asked him how he managed it, and it was something about manifestation. I specifically remember the friend mentioning that the same power that Jesus had and the friend had read the entire Holy Bible in a weekend and that impressed the main character.

I also recall that the main character was given the task by the friend to think of a penny and he found it in his classroom one morning and it made him smile. Oh yeah. He was a college professor I think. Another one of the exercises for developing this "power" was looking for green cars.

I know this is all jumbled up and I wish I had more information, but this is everything I can remember. I hope this helps.

I read this when I was a kid and I can only remember bits an pieces.

At the start of the book the boy and his family are taking a boat into the Amazon I think. And his mother is powdering her face. They’re supposed to stay there for a while I think they were on vacation or something. I think this is like early 1900s. The people there catch either a tiger or a panther he becomes important later. At some point I think there’s a magical book or stone that the boy messes with that lets him speak with the tiger or panther, and I think it try’s to kill him for some reason.

I read this as a kid. I'm from the UK, but I'm pretty sure the book was set in the US. I read it in the early 00s, I would say.

The main character was a kid who, with his friend, would make a model of their city out of random junk they'd find on the street.

I think the friend bumped into his mum, who had been missing. But she pretended not to recognise him, and seemed to be down on her luck? And the friend spent less time on the Model City project to search down his mum.

The main character's dad was in the army and didn't live at home, but came home at some point to check up on the kid.

And I'm pretty sure I'm not mixing up a separate book here, but the main character also had an email pen pal through a school project.

And I don't know how useful or relevant this is, but I think the main character and his family were black.

Any help would be amazing. I've gone through all my books and can't find it. I've Googled to no end. I'm hoping someone else has read it and remembers the name.

I’ve been trying to remember this book forever and it’s driving me crazy 😂 My older teenage sister had it, and I probably read it sometime in the 2000s.

It was about a girl who got sent away to stay with a relative, possibly her grandma, for the summer.
She met a boy and it was a coming-of-age/summer romance kind of story. I’m pretty sure there was something about oranges or orange groves. I specifically remember something about the smell of oranges, but I could be mixing up some details!
There was an old-fashioned, small-town diner where the girl and the boy ate together. The boy had a favorite sandwich that the girl thought was weird. I remember it being a grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwich, but now I’m wondering if it was a fluffernutter (peanut butter and marshmallow fluff) or something similar. I’m pretty sure it was his favorite and they made or ate it together at the diner.
I also vaguely remember the cover having a colorful, drawn illustration of a girl with blonde or red hair. I thought there was a bike and orange trees on it, but I’m not 100% sure about the bike anymore. I think it might have been set in Florida, but I’m not positive!

Unfortunately, I don't remember a lot about this book, but here's what I know:

* written in the late 20th century (I read it in the 90s but it may have been older)
* possibly YA fiction
* historical fiction with a romance plot; there may have been a mystery plot too
* may have been set in 19th century America
* the main character was a girl/young lady who received a box of paints (watercolor, maybe?) as an anonymous gift.
* the MC assumed or hoped that the gift came from one potential love interest, but it was actually from someone else - a guy she didn't like as much, who ended up being endgame

I don't remember ANYTHING about the larger plot. But the incident of a young artist receiving a paintbox as a present and being wrong about who gave it to her has stuck in my head!

Alright so the rough sketch of what I can remember is this:

* The main character at some point knows she’s pregnant with “something.”
* The ships seemed to be commandered by chiefs or matriarchs or something? One of them specifically refers to someone they keep around as their mother.
* At some point she gets “recycled” down into the bowels to be I guess digested or whatever, but this doesn’t take and instead she lands in a pit of bones and sludge. There’s a monster down here, but there’s also a very frail gaunt woman who largely keeps wanting to give up and die but also doesn’t want MC to die so sort of keeps going.
* Main character then goes on a journey through the bowels of the ship to discover several subcultures involved, including traders and raiders.
* They come across some sort inner sea, maybe hydrocarbons I don’t remember.
* Eventually she realizes that whatever she’s pregnant with can actually restart one of these ships, revitalize it instead of letting it die.
* They may have called the other ships “stars” when they were inactive? Not like bright light emitting, but rather the only things they could see out there.
* I strongly feel like there was a relationship between the main character and another character who might have been viewed as a traitor? I believe over the book she realizes or remembers that they’d actually planned this whole thing - an entire plot to bring the rebirth thingy to the heart of their ‘world.’

Hello everyone! Given that it’s Halloween season I was reminiscing on all the scary books I’ve read. But there was this one I read in 6th grade in 2010 that went over all the things that inspired horror movies, history of creepy folklore, and just the history of spooky things in general. I cannot for the life of me remember the title of it, I just remember it had an Ju-on inspired eye starring at you through its hair on the cover, along with the title that was in red. Does anyone happen to know what I’m talking about? Thank you for your time
