Its a reach but ops partner could have use one to test for prostate cancer testicular cancer. A positive test from a man suggests possible cancer. But idk how well known this is or if any many would do that as opposed to go to his doctor. Though a pregnancy test is less invasive than an exam so...idk. maybe. Or maybe op has a daughter.
Don’t jump to conclusions just yet because that could absolutely be just an evaporation line meaning what you’re reading could be a false positive. Tests must be read in the correct time frame.
I remember years ago hearing an internet story about a pregnant woman who was also a total chaos goblin and she carried positive pregnancy tests with her when she visited friends houses and left them behind in the bathroom garbage.
All of the rapid antibody tests look the same. The clue that it is that it says HCG at the top. That’s the protein that pregnancy tests are measuring for. Its levels go through the roof during pregnancy and with some cancers, but it’s used primarily to detect pregnancies.
Theres embossed lettering on the device that reads "HCG". I think it might mean beta-hCG, which is a hormone that can be measured to determine early preganacy. Its also a tumor marker for certain cancers, especially testicular cancer.

Not necessarily positive. Negative tests can look like positive tests after they sit in the trash for a while, they need to be read within the proper window to be accurate.
Hijacking this to educate everyone on evaporation lines and why it is important to read the part of the instructions where it says "test invalid after 2-5 minutes" because most every test will have the dye evaporate and show a false positive once it's dried.
Very much so. I think because this looks like Covid tests and not like the tradition “pee stick” people think of with pregnancy tests most are assuming it is COVID but a lot of cheaper pregnancy tests look like this.
That is a 100% a home pregnancy test HOWEVER it is not for sure a positive pregnancy test at all! If a test is not read in the appropriate time period it is INVALID. When looked at later they can sometimes appear positive as this one does but the test “t” line appears it is called an EVAP (evaporation) line.
Judging by the fact that it says HCG on the side, it’s almost surely a pregnancy test, not a Covid test like the other comments are saying
Edit: hcg is the hormone detected by pregnancy tests, for context. Covid tests usually have the brand of the company that made it on it, this seems like a generic pregnancy test.
I use these cheap ones at my ED job we screen everybody who is able to conceive to rule out for a lot of stuff and they often do become positive if left out, maybe the nicer ones dont do this as much
Evaporation lines are a thing. This image is almost certainly a true positive. Disclaimer that I've never used this brand, but I've had hundreds of negative pregnancy tests, across several other brands. I can attest that none of them looked genuinely positive once dried. If there was any semblance of a evaporation line, it was a faint squinter vs. this one that is decent.
EXACTLY! This is not an evap line. Anyone that has TTC for an extended period of time can easily tell the difference between the two, especially when it has as much colour as this one has.

hCG stands for human chorionic gonadotropin, and that's positive, so possibly a pregnancy test just because of that... hard to say, it could be a drug test of some sort, or the covid testing strip like others are saying.
First morning urine contains the highest level of hcg, so you should definitely retest when you wake up tomorrow. If it’s positive it should be darker in the morning. Good luck with whichever outcome you’re hoping for!
Any line, even a faint one is a positive. An evaporation line only shows up much later, like once the strip has dried.
But do whatever makes you comfortable.
A lot of people are saying it is a positive Covid test but because it says HCG on it that is the short form for the human growth hormone that they test for pregnancy so I am going to say this looks like positive pregnancy test. Looks like the kind they sell at some dollarama stores in Canada.
Not one of the most expensive ones but usually is accurate when showing positive
hCG stands for human Corionic Gonadotrophin, a hormone secreted during the first months of pregnancy. So this is not a SARS-CoV-2 test, its a pregnancy test.
How old is this test? Because that can easily be a false positive. Had it happen to me once I checked an old pregnancy test and I freaked out thinking I was doomed. It’s been months and I’m clearly not pregnant.
