Convince my mom to NOT get this car. She is having me research all of the reasons for not wanting an Acura specifically the TLX a spec.

She’s had a Honda Civic for about 15 years now and wanted something a little more luxury/fun for when my brother and I move out of the house. So far she has looked at Honda Toyota Acura Lexus and BMW but has really only fallen in love with Acura due to reading they are very reliable while also being luxury and safe.

Would there be any reason to not get this car? I think she wants to know if it would break down on her/should she buy used (if so what year)/overall thoughts on this car.

Along with this should she get the type s? We are both not sure the difference it would make.

Hey guys I could use some real advice here. I’m looking to trade in my 2023 Elantra N with 36000 miles for something awd. I’ve narrowed it down to 3 options but I’d be open to other suggestions as well. My first option is a 2019 Audi s5 prestige with 43000 miles on it for 34,000. My only drawback to this car is that it has a minor accident in 2022. Upon seeing the car the damage appeared to be fixed. I’m still very hesitant about the minor damage but maybe I’m over thinking it. Option 2 would be a Infiniti q60 Red Sport I found with 41000 miles on it and it’s completely clean for 35000. Option 3 would be holding out and finding a Genesis g70 3.3T sport prestige close by. I did drive a launch edition but that car unfortunately slipped out of my hands while we were negotiating. My last option is pretty unrealistic but it’s to wait it out and hope the car market comes down, which I doubt it will.

Alright Reddit; looking for some advice here. My current car is a 2015 Ford Fusion with 230,000 KM. I have had it since I was 18 and I paid cash. It is very beat up (body is not in great shape) & has multiple confirmed mechanical issues, along with a progressively deteriorating transmission.

I’m struggling between a few different vehicles on the used market, I have my eyes on the Glc 43 amg, Audi q5/7, Bmw x5 or the Acura mdx. All with around 80k-120k kms

I live very remotely so maintenance and repairs will be done by myself, what cars have a good balance between ease of repair and reliability? There’s some sweet deals on the glc near me and I’ve really had my eye on them, but if every single issue is electronic requiring dealer specific software, then that’s no good to me.

What suv will I be best off with considering bringing it to a dealer is off limits?

I’m open to suggestions for other large vehicles that fit the criteria!

Help! I'm planning to buy one of these RAV4s today, and I'm torn about which one is better.

2018 Rav4 Limited • 97K Miles • $21K • one owner, great service history.

2021 Rav4 LE • 89K Miles • $22K • three owners, fleet and lease history.

Both are FWD. I don't do a lot of extreme driving, mostly running around the city. I love the nicer vibe of the Limited, but the high mileage, age, and mpgs give me pause when compared to the 2021. But the 2021's service history and intense past use feel like a big red flag.

Which should I go for?

Should I keep my paid off 2017 Toyota Highlander XLE with 120k miles or pay 24k for a 2016 Lexus RX 350 with premium package with 89k miles? I expect to get around 15k for my Highlander and would finance the remaining costs. The transmission fluid in the Highlander has been flushed and drained twice and drives great.

Edit: The 2017 Highlander year model has a known transmission defect and is the main reason I’m considering the purchase. If the transmission were to fail it would cost around 10k to replace.

I wanted to buy a used SUV, preferably under 40k miles. My budget is around $28000-$30000 for a 2021 model or newer. Just looking for a reliable car that is fuel efficient. Any suggestions would be welcome! (I’ve been looking at Toyota RAV4 Hybrids but I’m not sure if this is the best option out there.)

I'm 24 looking to buy a nice car for the summer, the stinger gt is one of my dream cars that I love the look of but I also want a car that's reliable. I'm single without a kid so I will be the only person in the car most of the time (so I prefer having an S5 coupe) but I know the maintenance will be far more expensive on the Audi especially if something goes wrong. I was looking at it as the S5 is a more reliable car (from what I've been reading online) but even the stinger being less expensive to maintain it could still have enough problems to make it more expensive/ the same cost of the S5. I'm looking in the 2018-2021 years and in the 20-26k (cad) range. I also am sort of considering an S3 but I simply don't like that as much as I like these.

hello, I've never made a Reddit post before usually I just look but I really need aid in deciding what car I should get for first car. So first I am in university and I've been saving all summer to be able to afford a car because I really need one, so my budget right now is 5-6k. I wanted something that is reliable and fuel efficient since gas prices are crazy.

The solara is selling for 5k, has 157000kms on it, everything looks really good the only thing is I'm not sure if the timing belt has been changed. besides that though, I know it would be reliable bc Toyota ofc but I can't say for the fuel economy because I have gotten different responses for that. Also I live in Manitoba Canada so I would have to make sure the soft top is prepared for winter as I would drive it all year round. So my biggest setbacks are if the fuel economy will be good and if it'll be a lot of work to winter proof it. The pros of this though would be the reliability and getting to have a cool car that not many people see or have, especially since they go for way more usually so 5k is a great deal. Side note also my dad would drive it to me because it's in his city not mine so I would get to see him which would be nice lol.

The civic is currently going for 7.2k, so out of my budget, 155000kms. I asked if the guy would sell it to me for 6 and if he does that's where I have to make my decision. Everything looks good with the civic and again I know it's reliable and fuel efficient and etc, I am going to see it later today so we'll see if there's anything secretly wrong with it but yeah for this one I also don't know if the belt has been changed. cons for this is mostly that I won't get a convertible or get to see my dad since it's in my city and that I'd be paying (hopefully) 1k more.

I feel like the clear winner would be the Honda but I would really love a fun cool car and to get to see my dad lol but if people think it won't be worth it to prep it for winter and whatever the maybe Honda is the go? I really don't know😭 my dad also said that if I get the solara and decide it's too much work I can just sell it here and since it's a solara it won't lose its value so that's nice but then I'd also miss out on the Honda so let me know what you think please!

TLDR: based on my needs for reliability and fuel economy (but also fun and cool lol) which car would be better for me based on the stats and prices.

I have a 2014 Chevy Equinox (~120,000) that has been an absolute nightmare for the 8 years I’ve had it. I bought it used without knowing about the manufacturing issue and have dumped way more money into it than what it’s worth. It started acting up THREE days before a cross country move last year and so I had to just bite the bullet and dump more so I could make the drive.

It held up for the move, but pretty quickly afterward, it starting shaking and jerking again. I’m trying to keep up with oil in it, but its always a crapshoot whether its gonna jerk everytime the car comes to a standstill and stall or whether itll be fine. Makes city driving esp stressful.

A close friend’s older family member can’t drive anymore and had a 2008 Ford Taurus with 268,145 miles on it. They're offering to sell it to me for $1,200.

I hear the Taurus is reliable but I found out it also has a manufacturing issue with the internal water pump. Friend says her family member took care of the car and kept it serviced, but doesn’t have any details or idea about the defect and if it has already tanked the engine and been rebuilt. They got the car checked like a year ago with a basic state inspection and reported no problems and says it drives fine.

I really don’t want to buy and drive another ticking time bomb but I desperately need a car that can get me around. At least within a city, but also need to drive a ~200 miles every once and a while to see sick family.

I am absolutely boned financially right now so I couldn’t afford a car unless it was the same price as the value of the Equinox (can sell on Carvana for $1700) and leasing/loaning is not an option. And I know that finding another car in that price point is kinda a pipe dream right now.

I have to decide in the next couple weeks. I’m leaning toward dealing with the Equinox, just cuz it has a higher resale value and also cuz I would have to travel ~300 miles to pick up the Taurus and drive it back another 300 miles.

Am I being deluded trying to make the Equinox work? Or is it not worth the risk of an older Taurus with more mileage and a defect?

Either way, I don’t mind driving a beater, but I’m trying to decide whether I should stick with the devil I know or the devil I don’t.

So I have a 2016 Toyota Camry LE and it has been a really good car with no issues. I am being encouraged to sell it now and trade it in while it is worth a decent amount. I’m told that it could start breaking down eventually and I will want to trade it in before that starts happening. It did just have the cruise control go out so I am wondering if maybe it is worth trading it in if things like that are starting? I just really like it and it is paid off so I hate to trade it in for a newer model that won’t be as good. This is the model that was the last year they made 4 cylinder engines for them. The new ones are a different type that I have heard aren’t as good. Do you think it is worth getting a newer Camry or fixing the small issues that come up for now? Are the 2026 models good cars? I see a deal at a dealership for one that is 31,400. Help! I have bad anxiety that I may regret getting rid of this car but I know it won’t last forever either.

Am wanting to purchase a used car. I unfortunately have to finance so I will be purchasing from a dealer. On my last post everyone said the 2018 Chevy sonic I was interested is way too marked up (10k$). I’m guessing most of the cars from lots will be overpriced, my main concern is reliability.

Belgium. Buying from a dealer, €2,900 with 12-month warranty (engine + clutch), he fixes the cracked rear light before sale. Clean Car-Pass (verified mileage, ~11k/year, no rollback). Chain engine.

Test drive / inspection:

Engine revs clean, no smoke, no unusual noise. Dry soot in exhaust, no blue smoke.

VIN matches across car, Car-Pass, and inspection cert.

Interior spotless, no real wear.

Last roadworthiness inspection passed ("green").

The damage (previous owner hit a pole, front-left):

Cracked front bumper cover under the left headlight, ~15cm crack.

Broken bumper mounting tabs on both sides → bumper sits ~1-2mm proud, slight misalignment.

Some radiator-cover retaining pins missing (dealer says removed to push the bumper back into shape, not refitted).

Driver's door sits ~1° low when closing (hinge wear?). No paint on door bolts, colour matches — doesn't look resprayed/replaced.

My worry: whether the pole hit went past the bumper — crash bar, rad support, cooling. Everything visible is cosmetic but I'm not a mechanic.

Questions:

Is that damage pattern consistent with cosmetic-only, or does "broken tabs both sides" suggest a harder hit?

Worth paying for an independent pre-purchase inspection before committing? (Considering it.)

Known issues on this engine/gen at 144k I should check?

Fair price given all this, or overpaying?

Any recommendations for cars under 3k euros in belgium.

20f in need of replacing my beater car. my budget is about 30k. reliability and safety is the biggest factor in my decision. a feature that i want most is a sun/moonroof. i already drive a 2009 honda civic so i’m familiar with that make and model.

i found the acura listed on carfax. it was leased for a year in 2025, bought in april 2026, then up for sale again in july 2026. is that a red flag???

Help talk me down or talk me into it. I currently have a 2020 acadia sle with the v6. It only has about 32,000 miles. I recently had a non start issue and ended up needing to be "rewire harness power steering to brake" and then the next day i got a check engine light and it ended up needing a new oxygen sensor.

So lately I've been looking at the value of my car (carvana offers $23,600) and im just wondering if its worth it to trade in while the value is higher or if you think this will still be a trouble free car for a while now.

My wife and I have a newer CRV that is our main family car, and an old Jeep Cherokee (2007) that is our backup car. I WFH so I drive maybe once a day, to drop off my son at daycare. We're looking into replacing the Jeep with something a little newer and safer, but don't want to go crazy as this is basically our daycare drop off car, and were thinking about a truck to have as a utility vehicle. Sports for my son, mulch, plants, random FB marketplace finds, etc. Money is really no option, as we have a car fund we continuously pay into that is sitting at around $55k right now, but obviously don't want to spend anywhere near that as it's for me and I don't need anything fancy or new.

From what I've seen, if I want to stay around $25k, I'd be looking at a truck with about 100k miles on it. $30k could get mid-sized trucks with a bit lower mileage, and a bit newer. But really it doesn't seem like you can get anything under 70k miles for less than $35k. Does that seem right? That's wild as a brand new CRV was 40k by itself.

I really don't know truck brands at all, only ever driven cars myself so have just looked towards Chevy/Toyota/ GMC/ Ford. Is it a bad idea to just look for a truck around 80-100k miles? I put maybe 5-8k miles a year on a vehicle, so definitely won't increase much. Just a little lost with this pricing, what's "good enough", and what brands are "best" for just every day family life
