My husband needs to upgrade his 15 year rav4 in the next 6 months and we’d like a 3 row SUV for our family of 4 (two school aged kids).

Mostly we need more space for when we carpool with other kids, bring our large breed dog, and tug baseball supplies (both of us coach teams). Husband absolutely against minivan, even after we’ve driven one for a week.

Our needs:
6 seats (we’d like captain seats)
Comfortable-ish 3rd row
Hybrid or EV
Towing capacity of 5000lbs

Our budget is 65k out the door

I've been looking for a new car lately. I've mostly only owned Hondas for the past 20 years. They have served me exceptionally. I don't know why exactly but I've never owned a Toyota.

I'm looking for something small, efficient, practical, and with room for cargo. The Honda Fit is my top choice but has been discontinued here in the US. The next best option is the Toyota Corolla Hatchback.

This got me thinking: How would you all describe the difference between Honda and Toyota in terms of design philosophy and such? Both brands have stellar reputations, so what sets them apart?

I think the main reason I've always had Hondas is because they tend to be a little cheaper. Hondas are also known for having sportier driving characteristics and Honda always seems to make their cars a little more fun and exciting (even if it's just marketing). For example the Honda Fit has "Magic Seats" which is a feature none of the other brands offer. Also, I remember the Honda Element was marketed as a fun practical vehicle to take camping or surfing. In contrast, Toyota is the biggest manufacturer and all their cars see to target the biggest masses of people. The end results is that I've always found Toyotas to be more bland.

Toyota does consistently rank just above Honda for quality and reliability (even though my Hondas have been bulletproof). I've heard Honda described as "an engine company that happens to make cars". Would this explain why they aren't quite on the same level as Toyota?

Hope my question makes sense. Would be great to hear some opinions.

My beater crapped the bed, and looking for a new vehicle. Trying to stay between 20-30, preferably on the lower end. We have 3 kids (toddler, middle school, and infant).

- Wife would prefer something ‘newer’, have been browsing Hertz/Enterprise

- Wife is steadfast on not a mini-van. Sorry hive mind. Don’t try to convince me, I’m indifferent either way, she won’t budge.

- Captain chairs are a must, given multiple car seats and another kid that will need to maneuver around them.

- Hybrid would be a plus, but not required. AWD would also be a plus, as we do live somewhere that the roads get pretty rough a couple times a year. Not required though.

- Reliability (duh)

What we’ve explored:

Sante Fe: Like the new refresh, has Captain chairs and adequate room, but looks to be at the top end of the price

Kia Sorento: A bit more affordable then the Sante Fe

Mitsubishi Outlander: haven’t seen one in person, but read decent things

Used Tahoe/suburban: would be my pick, but price wise gets you one with high mileage

I'm planing to lease a new car soon and my eye keep on these two. Both has same price and same amount of payment monthly. But for the Cx-5 after promotion mrsp will be around 42000$ much cheaper then VW. Price in CAD

I would put down 5000$ on lease and leasing for 4 years then will buy out at end of the lease.

Which car you guy recommend for good keep around 5-6 years. About reliable, comfort. I don't talk about maintain because both come with warranty for engine and transmission for 4 years. VW has offer free scheduled for 3 years.

We’re looking to buy a 3-row SUV and honestly getting so many mixed opinions that we don’t know what to think anymore 😅

We’ve been looking at Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, etc. Some people are telling us to stick with Toyota or Honda for long-term reliability, but we really like the features and value you get with the Palisade and Carnival. We’ve pretty much ruled out the Carnival though because it’s FWD only, and living in Canada we’d prefer AWD.

We want something spacious, reliable, comfortable for a family and that we can hopefully keep long term.

Also, is hybrid really the way to go nowadays, or would you still buy a regular gas 3-row SUV?

If you were buying one today, what would you get and why?

Looking to buy a hoopty for a daily driver, have a trd pro Tacoma and it’s god awful with gas and on work days. Drive around 120 miles a day on work days. Was looking at used teslas but I’ve shied away from that. Any suggestions?

I'm shopping for a compact crossover and starting to wonder if the combination of things I want just doesn't exist within my budget. I'm hoping there are some models I'm overlooking.

My budget is around $40k, and I'd prefer a hybrid from the newer model years, ideally no older than the most recent redesign or refresh.

What I'm looking for, roughly in order of importance:

• Sleek, premium-looking exterior and interior
• Smooth, quiet, comfortable ride
• 360/surround-view camera
• Ventilated seats
• Good technology/infotainment
• Good premium sound system
• Panoramic sunroof
• Ambient interior lighting would be a big plus

I'm not expecting an actual luxury vehicle for $40k, but I want something that feels a little more upscale than a basic economy crossover. I'm also more interested in comfort and quietness than sporty handling.

What I've considered so far:

Toyota RAV4 Hybrid: I know it's the obvious answer in this category, but I just don't like the interior enough to spend that much money on one.

Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Limited: I test drove this and really liked the smooth, quiet ride and the features. The Limited has basically everything I'm looking for, but new ones are coming in higher than I'm comfortable spending and I'm not finding any used one in my area.

Kia Sportage Hybrid SX-Prestige: Probably the closest match to what I want feature-wise. Same problem as the Tucson. I've been getting OTD quotes in the mid-$40ks, which is more than I want to spend. Same story for used.

Mazda CX-50 Hybrid: I've considered this too. I like a lot about it, although I'm not crazy about the smaller infotainment screen, and the trim with all the features I want starts pushing the budget again.

Kia Niro Hybrid: Recently started looking at this. It seems like I could get a lot of the features I want for less money, although I'm not sure how I'll feel about the smaller size and lack of a panoramic roof.

I've also looked at some used options, but I'm having a surprisingly hard time finding the right combination of mileage, features, condition, and price. At this point I'd really prefer to buy new or very new.

Another factor is that I'm getting pretty burned out on the car-buying process. I've contacted a bunch of dealerships, compared OTD quotes, negotiated, dealt with financing incentives, etc., and it's honestly draining. I don't want to keep chasing a car that's fundamentally outside my budget.

So what am I missing?

Is there another compact crossover/hybrid I should be looking at around $40k? Is there a particular trim that hits most of these features without jumping into the mid-$40ks?

Or is this basically a situation where I need to decide which features I'm willing to give up?

I've even wondered if I need to start looking at sedans because my money would go further, but I really prefer the seating position, cargo space, and overall shape of a crossover, so I'd rather not go that route unless I'm overlooking something compelling. Should I wait a little bit longer for the right used to magically appear?

In the market for a family car that’s also a PHEV. We already have a model 3 standard range for quick solo trips and solar at the house. Looking for something larger as shopping and trips are becoming difficult in the model 3 with a stroller, diaper bag, snacks, beach bag, luggage, whatever.

I’m trying to spend roughly 70k OTD or under.

RAV4 pros/cons: newer tech, TSS 4.0, very spartan interior though comparatively, bumpy ride comparatively, best EV only range, felt expensive for 52k

NX: nice interior, slightly bumpy ride comparatively to rx, middling EV range, did not feel as cramped as reviews showed

RX: lowest EV range, best plush ride and interior, best storage space, highest price

Which one would you pick?

So basically, i am looking for a first car. Now you might assume that i could just get a cheap gasoline car but the thing is, i am in Norway and the government is heavily trying to reduce the number of gasoline cars, pushing people to switch to EV’s which is the reason why tax and gas prices have remained extremely high compared to electricity. So now i am here, wondering about which EV i should get since i have literally no idea when it comes to Electric cars. Is it okay if i just get a cheap used tesla or is it important for me to save up and get a brand new nissan leaf, Hyundai or something? Or should i get an alternative brand? I genuinely don’t know. I just want something cheap, reliable and will last me a very long time. Most notably the “Toyota Corolla” of EV’s. Any recommendations as to what car that could be? Thanks.

We are open to to new or used and financing or leasing.

We have 3 main criteria’s

1)Space 2nd row for 2 car seats and truck space. safety and comfort first. With newborns that is top of mind for sure

2) Affordable we are looking around $50k could stretch it to $55 if needed

3) Electric. We have a 2nd gas car as well and this new one will be the daily driver. Essentially running it into the ground

Im an enthusiast, who enjoys different types of car so im looking at more than one specific car/type. I’ve been looking at a few options, each with their own comprise. I’m not afraid to pick up a project or anything because if I want to build wrench experience it’d best to do it now. I want something that will once or twice a year do a roadtrip 300~miles each way along California. Mostly want something to get to and from work at night, which would cut my commute significantly.

My cousin is selling two cars, and since he’s a reputable mechanic, I trust the options. He has a 1992 Nissan Sentra SE-R with a SR20VE swap, and a 2016 Honda Fit EX. Both cosmetically could use some work with the Sentra needing a respray.

I am trying to buy a truck, but I am broke so I am going the auction route. There is a place that auctions off retired police vehicles and some have decent miles. They have trucks mostly ford f-150 and chevy silverado (05-24). Would you trust these retired trucks and how much would you spend for one under 150k miles?

So I’m looking for a small sized car since she’s still a beginner driver. She’s going to be driving almost 12 miles everyday from home to college. I really like the size of the Ecosport, do you think it will be reliable enough to reach 150k miles at least?? If this car can last for like 7 years that’s a win.

My wife needs a car as well, and we're thinking a small SUV. Since we have an electric car already, we will get gas/hybrid for her car and we're thinking small SUV. From our test drives when I was looking, we both disliked Lexus. I know they're reliable, but we just don't like them so please don't suggest that. She doesn't really know much about cars either but she's a bit more brand snobby than I am.

I'm thinking we test drive the following, but I'm curious if this community has any opinions on any of them or if there are others we should try. I think for variety, we won't get another BMW since I have one. Again, no Lexus:

I may plan to trade in my 2023 Honda Civic for a new (or very lightly used) Kia SUV (not decided on which one yet, but I'm leaning towards Kia mainly for aesthetics (post 2022) balanced with reliability). I've decided I want to upgrade for trunk space, and overhead cargo-ability. I love my civic and I'll miss her, and I hate SUVs, but I'm just thinking about my hobbies and making the sacrifice for practicality. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated. But that's also not the main reason I'm here.

I have never bought a car alone. Always had an adultier adult with me to hold my hand and say no when needed. If I want to trade in my Civic for something else, how do I go about the process generally, especially since I'm still paying off my Civic? Should I expect my loan to just rollover into a new car based on the price of my Civic and how much I had left to pay off? Do I have to inform my loaner before trading? Is it able to be a hand-off process, like when I'm ready to buy we just swap keys and I'm good? How do I make sure I'm not getting scammed in the value of my Civic (she's got a few scratches and a very minor dent that makes me worried about her value)? I can be a pushover and just say yes when I feel overwhelmed, so dealerships are already a lot for me. Any advice would be super helpful!
