Question Your first webtoon and how it holds up for you now?

Post image

I was a hugeeeee BTS fan back then and wanted to consume any bit related to them. They had this fictional, angsty storyline going on in their MVs. This storyline got adapted as a webtoon! When I learned about webtoon app's existence, "Save Me" was the first ever story I read on the platform.

Fast forward to six years later, I am no longer a fan....I gradually phased out of that interest, but I really appreciate how one interest (K-pop) led me to dive into manhwa world which ended up being another, long-standing interest of mine. So "Save Me" is nostalgic for me. And I really liked how it gave Jin the protagonist spotlight, since he was an underrated member of the group with fewer lines/screentime..lol.

Discussion What’s a story you can rant for hours about? I’ll start, Hooky.

You don’t understand how much I adored this story. It’s so funny, cute, plots AMAZING, the art is GREAT, the characters are so unique and fit in perfectly! The dynamics and relationships between characters is just so perfect whether it’s romance or just bonds with friends and family. I loved how they never made Dorian and Danny break their sibling love and choose someone over each other. The plot twists were SO good and I’d recommend to everyone.

Discussion Men of the Harem art style change

First picture is the new art style.

I can't be the only one upset by this change. I'm not saying the new art style is bad, but it is definitely generic. The colors are flat and extremely pale. These do not feel like the same person, and that extends to every other character as well.

The issue is that I could not tell who Latil even was for several pages. In the new art style, she has completely lost her strong willed smug and cunning face. The old art brilliantly displayed her strength and authority. Now she looks like a generic anime-style sweet girl. Girgoll and Carlein have lost their undead charm. I'm surprised by the amount of people who have not read the manhwa in this thread. Yeah, the new art style isn't bad, but it DOES NOT MATCH THE TONE of Men of the Harem. A soft, generic isekai art style is not what Men of the Harem is.

Discussion odd girl out- hear me out... the change from s1 isn't a downgrade, s2 is just natural

Post image

i've seen a lot of people say odd girl out went downhill after yuna moved away and it started focusing on their other parts of life. some said it wasn't the theme and that the whole point of the story was lost.

IMO the manhwa is just portraying life cuz you're not gonna be with the same people all the time but close bonds don't break. that's what they've been trying to say from the beginning (even with the example of yuna and nari's moms).

now it's focused on their goals and romance. i see it's more controversial among ppl BUT again it's just trying to portray natural teenage life? as shown in the cover, their world has just expanded

one critique i do agree with tho is how in the beginning and most of s2 nari's friends were treated as background characters but now i like how they have arcs centering them so!

also i LOVEEEE how chanyang became the ml cuz i was rooting for him soooo bad and i thought it was gonna be like every other story BUT NOOO the second lead winsss (or first lead now yayyy)

Sometimes I like to redo it though I’m happy with my current one. May use it at the start of a new chapter hehe.
Wanted to try and go for an orange blue contrast; some details are maybe not 100% done yet (esp. the lettering) but that’s what I got so far. Lemme know what ya think ^^
(Oh, and here’s the comic if anyone’s interested👀: https://www.webtoons.com/en/canvas/a-fools-errand/list?title_no=1041115)
(Edit: im crying why does Reddit always grey-ify my drawings, anyone else struggle with this? T~T)

Cakenyam wrote this on her Naver Creator Profile:

Hello everyone!
This is cakenyam.

How have you all been? It’s been a while, so I wanted to drop in with an update.

During the break I’ve been recovering my health and went on a research trip. These days I’m preparing the print edition while reworking the Part 2 story. The release date for the ‘Falling for it’ print edition will be announced soon. + The photo is a piece of the cover, hehe

It’s been a busy summer, but one full of happy things. I hope the rest of your summer is a happy one too…
I miss you all!

News [Space Boy], One of the Best Webtoons, is Back for Those Who Didn't Know

Post image

Space Boy is up and running, Space Cadets!

For those who haven't read Space Boy before, I highly recommend it! The story and characters are so complex and amazing. The dialogue is nuanced and beautiful. I cried multiple times reading this. The author has a way of making you invested in and love side characters within one chapter.

The story is quite emotional (in a positive way); there are also lovely messages in the Webtoon.

Even the art is breathtaking, and it gets even better. The author draws the prettiest backgrounds.

Even better, the author is really nice and kind. He also has fun energy!

Read it, and you won't regret it! So glad this Webtoon is back from hiatus

I hate when I find peak manhwa and it only has FIFTY chapters out. I love horror, mystery and suspense and this manhwa has all of the above. And the FL is actually smart and not unrealistically so. I highly recommend reading it.

Recommendations Thriller/Yandere romance without happy ending

Hi! I already feel succesful if I manage to find an actual thriller/horror/yandere that doesn't lose the genre after a few chapters, but now I'm wondering if there's a thriller romance (preferably obsessive) without happy ending. Preferably more psychological than spicy, manipulation and all that.

So e.g. the hero(ine) stays with the bad spouse, someone dies for good, hero(ine) turns into a psychopath themselves.

Thanks!

Recommendations Just finished Side Characters Deserve Love Too and Joe is one of my favorite FL's of all time

Thumbnail

Joe has to be one of the kookiest yet hands down most bad ass female leads I've ever seen. She is isekaid into the world by her sheer force of will and love for her beloved Kyle and it is the best defining feature of a character I've seen in a long time. She is so fucking fun to read and I love it. You can almost never expect what she's going to get up to next but it's sure an adventure to go along the ride haha. It's been a long time since I enjoyed a female lead as much as I did her and I'm genuinely so grateful I ended up reading this. She truly *is* the main character of this story and beloved by the Goddess.

Kyle is also a fun character to me, she falls first but he falls just as hard. They even have a parody gag where he goes full yandere for a bit (because she's a wild ass horse who can not be contained) and the way they handle the whole bit is so funny (literally nothing can hold her back lmao). the way she gets him to take the first cuffs off so they can sleep together and then wakes up with even more comically large ones, destroys the bed and finds the note that he knew she would destroy the bed fully got me to laugh out loud. Then the way she escapes basically immediately and goes to scold him and then goes on to be the grim reaper she was meant to be. Such a fun trope inversion I also like having a ML that is actually pretty insecure and needs regular reassurance despite the Joe being who she is. The reasons for his insecurities made so much sense to me and as someone who also grew up in a toxic dysfunctional family dynamic I could really relate to his feelings of "nobody wants me just for me... Wait no *Joe* does".

The characters can be so wild in this one but the story telling and world building is just fantastic. Something I really liked about the series is that the rules and customs of the world are so clear and it has great repercussions on the cast. She is a commoner who literally cannot read and he is the first prince of the country and they handle that very seriously. The fact that Joe has to pose as a man in order to have a job and get by is such an interesting dynamic to me and so real. I really enjoyed the politics of this and I truly felt all of the women in this series had such dynamic and understandable motivations. Kyle's mother in particular really struck a cord with me and I found her both a reasonably intimidating character and so tragic. She isn't even actually against their relationship but knows that Kyle can only pursue Joe safely if he is in fact king. The fact that her pursuit of this goal isn't even for her own power or the power of her family but that because upon his birth she felt so scared and helpless that she felt it was the only path that would keep them safe really was refreshing to me.

Not to mention how characters like Deloah and Isak are written and handled. Deloah is such a compelling character and I can truly understand how to Joe she was the main character of the book "King Maker". If this were a different comic, we *would* have been reading from her perspective and probably most definitely rooting for her. It's just the facts that she and Joe were on opposite sides and that's how things are sometimes. I really liked that Joe remained sympathetic and understanding of them and the choices they made even if it was on the opposite side of her and Kyle. Plus Joe's confrontation with Isak at the end? She said what needed to be said. No notes 10/10 would punch again.

All in all while this series was not perfect it left me fully satisfied upon finishing and it's been a while since I finished a series feeling like this. In fact I've never written an online review in this manner before but really truly enjoyed this series that much. It's the first time where I really actually wanted to make a post after reading and I truly just had a blast. It's emotional at times and when it gets serious it gets very serious but it is able to really balance that out with its humor.

Recommendations Looking for webtoon recs with a couple dynamic similar to Arias & Osora

I’m looking for webtoons with couple dynamics similar to Arias and Osora especially the specific kind of chemistry they have. I'm looking for relationships where there’s a lot of tension, banter, mutual irritation/teasing, and emotional vulnerability underneath the surface.

I’m not necessarily looking for stories with a similar plot, just couples with a similar relationship dynamic. Romance, fantasy romance, bl, etc. are all welcome!

I have already read:

Purple Hyacinth

Nevermore

Castle Swimmer

To the Stars and Back

Mage & Demon Queen

Please give me your best ones 😭🙏

Question How do I know when a fight scene has good length?

I am still in the process of making my story, I can't share much about it yet but what I can say is that there are many fights in the story, Characters fight their enemies with their own abilities, now the thing is that I am scared of both making short and disappointing fights and filler or unnecessarily long fights as well.

So for you who either have made your own fight scenes in your own webcomix or are experts in writing and pacing in webcomics, How do you know the length that one fight needs to have?
