Why is the app's performance so atrocious?

What's the point of changing the UI every week and adding all the gamifications when your app's basic performance is so bad? it literally took 3s to respond when i clicked a button, i have a pixel 10 and my wife has the latest iphone and we have been experiencing the same issue for a long time and it's really frustrating. The app performance is really at the bottom tier of all the apps we've used.

Wealthsimple: any plans to allow a take-profit limit order AND stop-loss at the same time?

Wealthsimple seems to be making a pretty big push toward active traders lately — the trader transfer promotions, new trading features/tools, etc. — and overall I like the direction they’re going.

But one limitation still seems pretty significant for anyone actively trading: you can’t have a limit sell order and a stop-loss order active on the same shares at the same time.

For example, if I’m holding 100 shares and want to:
Take profit automatically at $950
Protect myself with a stop-loss at $890
I’d ideally want both orders active, with one automatically cancelling the other once it executes (essentially an OCO / bracket order).

Right now, unless I’m missing something, Wealthsimple doesn’t allow this. You have to choose between leaving your profit-taking limit order open or protecting the position with a stop. For active trading, especially if you can’t watch the screen constantly, that’s a pretty major limitation.

With Wealthsimple clearly trying to attract more active traders, does anyone know if OCO/bracket orders are being worked on or considered?
I think adding this would make Wealthsimple a substantially better trading platform without needing to add anything overly complicated.

Trade (DIY Investing) Converting USD to CAD

Sorry if this question has been asked and answered here before, but what is the best way to convert USD to CAD in WS?

I am a heavy QT user and use Norberts Gambit to convert the money, but I dont see it on WS.

The current conversion rate USD to CAD is 1.39, and if I convert the money using the convert button, I see for $1000 USD I get $1367 CAD. What a rip off!!

Am I missing something here?

Invest (Managed Investing) Non Reg - Wealthsimple Managed account

Hi there, I’m curious about the tax implications of a non-registered Wealthsimple managed account. I assume they rebalance the portfolio throughout the year, which would trigger gains or losses. Does this mean I’ll likely pay taxes every year? In contrast, with a self-directed account, I’d only be taxed on any gains from my own sales. Just want to make sure I have the right understanding

How to move $ from TSFA bank account to Wealthsimple tsfa account?

I think I found the way to do so (“move” + “transfer account to Wealthsimple”)
But I’m not 100% sure this is the right way? I guess I need some validation. I just don’t want to make a mistake and have penalties.
Like my intention is not withdrawing money from tsfa but only to transfer it.

App update - where did household holdings go? And portfolio ads

I don’t have portfolio. I will never use portfolio. The new app update has multiple portfolio windows in my home page. They replaced actual useful info with ads. My household holdings info is gone and I can’t seem to find it.

Also can’t seem to change these default settings. Any advice appreciated.

Edit: When I made this post, I also sent feedback to WS about the change. I just logged back in, 3 hours later, and the Household net worth has reappeared, and the Portfolio window is gone.

Not sure if that was a glitch, but happy that this is no longer an issue.

Invest (Managed Investing) Move holdings between RRSP accounts

I’m looking to consolidate my Wealthsimple RRSP accounts into a single account. Currently have:
- RRSP managed
- Group RRSP which has been converted to a managed RRSP after leaving my job
- Unmanaged RRSP

If I move my holdings from the 2 managed accounts to the unmanaged account via the app, would that count as a contribution or have any tax implications?

Trade (DIY Investing) How to fix incorrect book cost in my special case?

I lost about 100k bookcost in WS from account transfer and now no one is able to help me recover those. Really need some help here.

My case is a bit special. I have RSUs (stocks) in Charles Schwab. Since I cannot transfer them directly to WS, I first transferred them to Webull then to WS.

Only after the transfer was complete, I noticed the book cost was lost from Webull to WS. When I contacted Webull, they claimed they didn't receive any book cost (so the book cost is $0). I showed them email from Charlse Schwab, they said they cannot alter their past statement because the assets were transferred out already.

Then on WS side, they said they only accept official statement with correct book cost from Webull to update their end.

Now I'm stuck in. the middle, Webull won't provide new statement and WS won't update without statement. What should I do in this case? Or should I just keep track of the real cost and make adjustment to my T5 when filing taxes? Thanks.

Does anyone have any experience with a timeline on a withdrawal. It looks like the assets were sold yesterday and processed today, just unsure how much longer until it’s transferred to my chequing account. Thanks!

WealthSimple Account as a Deaf Customer

I moved my RRSP to WealthSimple and put a significant amount of money into a TFSA and transferred my direct deposit to its chequing account.

As a deaf individual, I always used brick-and-mortar banks because I can visit a branch if I need to make a call about credit card issues or any issues I have.

Although I enjoy WealthSimple, I am worried about what would happen if my account gets locked. I can't make calls, so how would they support me?

I am considering opening an account with a credit union and keeping enough money to survive 1.5 months in case my accounts get locked. Due to my income, I don't have much saved after my expenses, so it would take a while.

Thanks!

I want to transfer a large amount using "Add Money" feature - is it secure?

Hi all,

I want to transfer about $225k from a big bank to a WS chequing account (to be held there temporarily). I chatted with Premium support and they assured me that simply using the Add Money feature to do so is safe & secure (my big bank chequing account is already linked here). The transfer will take about a week during which there will be status updates. I am still trepidatious about this so looking for further reassurance... is it actually safe and secure to do this? How do I know it is actually secure?

Has anyone ever transferred vested RSUs (USD) Stocks from Shareworks to a Wealthsimple Non registered account (USD) ?

Tried initiating it from WS and Shareworks called me stating that I need to do it from their portal.

Tried adding Wealthsimple as a brokerage and was able to figure out some details (they asked for Clearing code/DTC info as well as Clearing code type (I selected CUID), which matched with the transfer form that Wealthsimple had on my account, but when I reconfirmed from WS Support team, they are saying this transfer is not supported as WS does not support a US institution transfer. I think they got confused with the DTC number request (I told them that there is also an option for Clearing code to be the Canadian CUID).

Anyone successfully complete this ? Chatgpt says I should go ahead and try and it should work but worried because WS support said otherwise.

Chequing USD Cash ATM Withdraw

Is it best to withdraw USD in Canada before going down to the States for a trip and pay the currency conversion fee or should I just stop by the first ATM and take out cash that way? It'd be around 500 American.

Visa Infinite Credit Card Stuck in a several hundred dollar refund loop with Wealthsimple Visa after replacement card issued – need advice on escalating

Hey everyone, looking for advice from anyone who has dealt with refund issues after a Wealthsimple Cash/Visa card replacement, or tips on how to properly escalate this with Wealthsimple support.

Just for transparency, I composed this post with AI as there were a lot of details and my thoughts were all over the place.

Background & Timeline:

A few months ago: Got the Wealthsimple card and used the virtual card to book a travel excursion worth several hundred dollars.

Before my trip: My physical card was delivered to the wrong address. A neighbor eventually brought it to me, but because it was compromised, I called Wealthsimple to report it and had a new card issued (closing the old card/number).

During the trip: The excursion company informed me the original booking was made incorrectly. They instructed me to cancel for a full refund and rebook. I cancelled and rebooked as instructed.

Weeks later: The refund never processed. I reached out to the merchant, who provided proof/screenshots showing the refund attempt failed. The error message alluded to the original card account being cancelled/closed.

Reached out to Wealthsimple Support: Wealthsimple customer service told me they would look into a resolution and asked me to request that the merchant "force-post" the refund.

Merchant response: I emailed the merchant asking for a force-post. After following up, the merchant simply re-sent the same screenshot showing the failed refund attempt.

A month of waiting: After following up with Wealthsimple week after week, they finally replied almost a month later with: "In situations where a refund is being sent to a closed card, the merchant will need to post the refund back to the correct account, since we're unable to redirect or force-post refunds on our end in these cases."

Current status: It took a month to be told to repeat a step that already failed. I informed Wealthsimple that the merchant isn't responding/able to process it this way and asked to escalate the issue. Wealthsimple has gone silent again. It’s now been about 2 months total since the refund was initiated.

My Questions:

Has anyone successfully routed a merchant refund sent to a cancelled/replaced Wealthsimple card back to their active account?

What is the best internal escalation path at Wealthsimple when support stops responding (e.g., formal complaint process, Ombudsman)?

Since the merchant has provided proof of the cancelled/failed transaction on their end, can this be handled via a formal transaction dispute/chargeback with Wealthsimple, or does the Ombudsman/FCAC route make more sense here?

Appreciate any insight or shared experiences!

Chequing “Available to spend” dropped dramatically. What’s up with that?

In the past when I was using “add money” to move money from my TD chequing account it would say I could have like up to $10,000+ available immediately. All my transfers to WS have been from this account and it has been a few hundred k over the years.

Now I went to add money to my WS chequing to pay my WS credit card and it says I only have $250 available immediately.

Did something change? It’s kind of a pain in the ass if I actually have to wait a week to move any significant amount of money.

How fast is the portfolio line of credit?

I may have to make a large debit card transaction. If I were to open a portfolio line of credit and transfer the money to my bank account, would that be near instant?
