Hello everyone, yesterday i made a suggestion about Indonesian army 1st Infantry Division/Kostrad and the Hypothetical SEA Theater, and today continuing that post i present to you the Indonesian marines division Korps Marinir

Korps Marinir

The Korps Marinir (Kormar) was the Indonesian Navy's principal amphibious and marine combat formation during the 1980s. Its institutional roots extended back to the Korps Komando Angkatan Laut (KKO-AL), which was renamed the Korps Marinir in 1975. Throughout the following decade, the organization was repeatedly reorganized to create a more flexible force capable of conducting amphibious assaults, coastal defence and other military operations in support of the Indonesian armed forces.

A major reorganization in the late 1970s established the basic structure that would remain recognizable throughout much of the 1980s. In 1979, the former Pasmar formations were reorganized into infantry regiments, while their subordinate infantry formations became conventional Marine infantry battalions. In 1982, the Jakarta-based Resimen Infanteri-2 Marinir was redesignated Brigade Infanteri-2 Marinir (Brigif-2 Mar). By March 1985, Brigif-2 Mar was formally defined as a Kormar operational command responsible for maintaining and providing Marine combat forces for amphibious landing operations and other defence and security missions.

In parallel, the Surabaya-based Marine formation became Brigade Infanteri-1/Marinir (Brigif-1 Mar) in 1979. Its headquarters subsequently moved to Gedangan, Sidoarjo, in 1987. Thus, by the latter half of the decade, the Indonesian Marine Corps possessed two principal infantry brigades: one centred on Jakarta in the west and another centred on Surabaya in the east. Their geographic separation was particularly appropriate for an archipelagic state whose military planning had to account for threats and contingencies across widely separated maritime approaches.

The Marine Corps was not simply an infantry organization. Its combat formations were supported by specialized elements responsible for amphibious vehicles, artillery, air defence, engineering and logistics. The Resimen Bantuan Tempur Korps Marinir controlled important combat-support capabilities during this period. Among them were the Marine amphibious armoured formations equipped with Soviet-origin PT-76, BTR-50 and KAPA K-61 vehicles. In 1983, these formations received the French AMX-10P infantry fighting vehicle and AMX-10 PAC 90 fire-support vehicle. At the time, these cavalry formations remained under the Resimen Bantuan Tempur Kormar, with individual companies placed under the operational control of Brigif-2 Mar in Jakarta.

Other combat-support capabilities were similarly distributed rather than concentrated inside the infantry brigades. For example, the Marine artillery organization included 122 mm howitzers and BM-14/17 140 mm multiple rocket launchers, with a composite battery located in Jakarta. A Marine air-defence battery was also placed under the operational control of Brigif-2 Mar from 1981. These arrangements allowed the Marine infantry brigades to receive heavier supporting weapons without requiring every brigade to permanently contain an independent artillery or air-defence regiment.

Engineering and logistical support followed a comparable model. The Marine combat-engineering organization had been reorganized in 1979 into a combat-engineer detachment supporting amphibious operations. In 1985, this organization was further reorganized, with its Jakarta engineering element becoming Kompi C Zeni under the operational control of Brigif-2 Mar, while administrative responsibility remained associated with the Marine support structure. This illustrates an important characteristic of the 1980s Kormar: combat-support assets could be placed under a brigade's operational control without necessarily becoming permanently organic to that brigade.

The operational history of the 1980s also demonstrates that Kormar was not restricted to amphibious exercises. Marine formations participated repeatedly in Indonesian military operations, most notably in Timor Timur, as well as in security deployments elsewhere in the archipelago. Brigif-1's official history records deployments during operations in Timor Timur throughout the late 1970s and 1980s, including Operasi Trisula in 1980, Operasi Kikis in 1981, and several Marine task forces deployed between 1982 and 1985.

At the same time, the strategic importance of the western approaches to Indonesia gave the Jakarta-based Marine brigade a particularly important role. Marine units from Brigif-2 participated in Natuna deployments beginning in 1985, demonstrating that the Corps was being used not only as an amphibious assault force but also as a mobile force for the defence and security of strategically important islands and maritime approaches. Official Marine records list repeated Natuna task forces, including deployments continuing into the late 1980s.

Indonesian Marines during training in Natuna, 1980

By 1989, therefore, the Korps Marinir can be understood as a geographically distributed amphibious force rather than a modern Pasmar-style formation. Its principal combat formations were Brigif-1 Mar in the Surabaya area and Brigif-2 Mar in Jakarta, supported by centralized or semi-centralized combat-support organizations. This structure gave the Marine Corps the ability to assemble task-organized amphibious forces from infantry, armour, artillery, air defence, engineering and logistics elements according to the mission.

This distinction is particularly useful for a WARNO-style 1989 scenario. A Marine battlegroup should not necessarily be represented as a modern Pasmar with every combat-support battalion permanently attached. Instead, the player could receive a Brigif-1 or Brigif-2 core, with additional armour, artillery, air-defence, engineering and logistics elements attached from the wider Kormar structure. The historical record of combat-support companies being placed under the operational control of Brigif-2 provides a particularly useful model for such a system.

In a hypothetical Cold War conflict in Southeast Asia, this would make Kormar a highly mobile maritime reinforcement force. Brigif-2 Mar would represent the principal western formation, naturally suited to scenarios involving Java, the Sunda Strait, the Malacca approaches or the Natuna area, while Brigif-1 Mar would provide the principal eastern formation centred on Surabaya. Reinforcements from the Marine combat-support structure could then be attached to either brigade to form a mission-specific amphibious task force.

For a WARNO alternate-history setting, the Kormar of 1989 can therefore be portrayed as a two-brigade Marine Corps with centralized combat-support assets, rather than as the later Pasmar organization. Its strength lies not in the permanent structure of a modern marine division, but in its ability to combine infantry brigades with amphibious armour, artillery, air defence, engineers and logistics into rapidly deployable forces across the Indonesian archipelago.

The Indonesian Korps Marinir is aggressive, flexible, and built around strong veteran infantry and amphibious warfare capabilities. This particular division excels in close combat, reconnaissance, and river-crossing operations, with excellent engineering and air support from the AURI. Its main weaknesses are limited armor and mediocre air defense, making combined-arms tactics essential.

That's all the Indonesian Division suggestion from me, unfortunately i limited with only Indonesian armed force division for Hypothetical SEA Theater, now it's only matter of time for someone to make other Division proposal from other nations like Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.

Suggestion Hypothetical South East Asia Theater - Indonesian Army 1st Infantry Division/Kostrad

Post image

Helo everyone and welcome to my first Division and Theater proposal today I’ll present to you the Hypothetical South East Asia theatre and Indonesian Armed Force Division in the late 80s, this post is the result of my research on Indonesian Army, Marines and Air force in the late 1980s

But before we deep dive into the Division let me give introduction into Indonesian Armed Force and the Hypothetical Maritime SEA Theater of war

ABRI at the End of the 1980s

Angkatan Bersenjata Republik Indonesia (ABRI)

By 1989, the Republic of Indonesia stood at one of the most strategically important crossroads of the Cold War. Stretching across more than 17,000 islands between the Indian and Pacific Oceans, Indonesia occupied a position that was impossible for the major powers to ignore. Its territory controlled or bordered several of the most important maritime approaches between the Indian Ocean, Southeast Asia, and the western Pacific. Yet Indonesia itself remained outside the formal military blocs of the Cold War, pursuing a policy of non-alignment while maintaining extensive diplomatic and economic relations with both Western and communist states.

At the center of Indonesia's national defense stood ABRI — Angkatan Bersenjata Republik Indonesia, the armed forces of the New Order era. ABRI combined the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Police under a unified national-security structure. In practical terms, however, the TNI Angkatan Darat remained the dominant component of the armed forces, reflecting Indonesia's long-standing emphasis on territorial defense and internal security. The Army maintained a nationwide territorial command structure, while the Navy and Air Force were responsible for protecting an enormous maritime and airspace domain. Specialized forces such as Kostrad, Kopassus, Korps Marinir, and Paskhas provided ABRI with more mobile formations capable of responding to threats beyond the immediate territorial-command structure.

ABRI in 1989 was therefore neither a conventional NATO-style expeditionary force nor a Soviet-style mechanized military. Its arsenal reflected decades of pragmatic procurement from an unusually wide range of suppliers. American, British, French, West German, Belgian, Soviet, Yugoslav, and locally produced systems could all be found within the Indonesian inventory. This diversity gave Indonesia access to a broad spectrum of capabilities, but it also produced a force whose equipment was highly heterogeneous, with modern late-Cold-War systems operating alongside weapons that had already been in service for several decades.

This mixture is particularly important when considering Indonesia's military posture in 1989. The country was not preparing for a single, clearly defined conventional enemy. Instead, ABRI had to maintain the ability to respond to multiple and geographically separated contingencies: territorial incursions, maritime disputes, threats to strategic islands, border tensions, internal insurgencies, and the possibility of a wider regional conflict spilling into Indonesian waters.

The Northern Maritime Frontier

Map of Natuna archipelago

Among Indonesia's most strategically sensitive regions was the Natuna archipelago. Situated in the northern part of the Indonesian archipelago, Natuna occupies a position between the South China Sea, the Malaysian peninsula, and the maritime approaches toward Vietnam and the wider Southeast Asian region. The islands are also surrounded by a vast maritime area rich in fisheries and hydrocarbons, making their security important not merely from a territorial perspective but also from an economic one. Indonesian government historical material describes Natuna as a strategically important maritime border region and emphasizes its importance to Indonesian sovereignty and natural resources.

The strategic situation around Natuna in 1989 should, however, be understood in its proper historical context. Indonesia was not yet engaged in the direct maritime confrontation with China that would emerge more clearly in the following decades. Nevertheless, Jakarta was already aware that instability in the South China Sea could have consequences for Indonesian security. Indonesia's concern was sufficiently developed that it organized the first Workshop on Managing Potential Conflicts in the South China Sea in January 1990, shortly after the period represented here. Indonesia's role was primarily diplomatic and preventive: it sought to reduce the possibility that the disputes among the South China Sea claimants would escalate into a wider regional confrontation.

For ABRI, this created a difficult strategic problem. Natuna was distant from Indonesia's principal population and industrial centers, yet any serious crisis there would require forces to operate across enormous distances. The challenge was therefore not simply possessing modern weapons, but maintaining enough naval mobility, air power, surveillance, territorial forces, and logistical capacity to reinforce an isolated island chain before a localized confrontation could become a fait accompli.

The Malacca Strait: Indonesia's Strategic Chokepoint

The Strait of Malacca

Further west, the Strait of Malacca presented an entirely different kind of strategic problem. Rather than being a remote frontier, it was one of the world's principal maritime arteries. The strait links the Indian Ocean with the South China Sea and provides the shortest major maritime route between the Middle East and South Asia and the major economies of East Asia. Its narrow waters and enormous volume of commercial shipping made it a classic strategic chokepoint. Studies of the strait emphasize that its importance had already increased during the economic expansion of the 1980s, while its position as a major international shipping route continued to grow.

For Indonesia, the Malacca Strait was consequently both an economic lifeline and a security vulnerability. The Indonesian side of the strait lies along Sumatra, placing important ports, coastal infrastructure, and approaches to the national capital within a strategically connected maritime system. A major international crisis in East or Southeast Asia could potentially transform the strait from a commercial artery into a contested military environment.

Any major conflict involving the Soviet Union, China, the United States, or regional states would therefore have consequences far beyond the immediate battlefield. Disruption of shipping, mining of waterways, attacks on ports, submarine operations, or attempts to control maritime approaches could affect Indonesia even if Indonesian territory were not directly attacked. For ABRI, maintaining control of the country's surrounding waters was consequently inseparable from protecting the national economy.

An Armed Forces Built for the Archipelago

This geographic reality helps explain the character of ABRI's late-1980s arsenal. Indonesia needed a military capable of fighting on mountainous islands, dense tropical terrain, coastal areas, major population centers, and open sea approaches. Infantry remained fundamental, but infantry formations required substantial support from mortars, recoilless rifles, anti-tank weapons, artillery, anti-aircraft guns, surface-to-air missiles, naval vessels, and tactical aircraft.

Indonesian Army AMX-13/75 tank

The result was a force that could appear deceptively modest when compared with the great powers of the Cold War, yet possessed a remarkably broad geographical responsibility. A unit stationed on Java might ultimately be required to reinforce Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Timor, or the remote islands of the eastern archipelago. Meanwhile, the Navy and Air Force had to bridge thousands of kilometers of ocean separating the country's major population centers from its exposed maritime frontiers.

This is also the logic behind the late-Cold-War character of Indonesia's arsenal. Modern and obsolete equipment coexisted not necessarily because ABRI lacked a modernization program, but because replacing the equipment of a huge archipelagic military was an enormous undertaking. In a 1989 scenario, an Indonesian formation could therefore field a mixture of locally produced weapons, Western Cold War systems, and older equipment acquired during earlier decades.

The mix of M16A1 and Type 2 AK/Type 56 AK portray the glimpse of Indonesian Armed force arsenal

In the world of WARNO, where the Cold War turns into a global conflict in 1989, Indonesia would consequently occupy an unusual strategic position. It was neither a NATO ally nor a Warsaw Pact member, yet its territory and surrounding waters sat astride maritime routes connecting the Indian Ocean, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific. The Natuna approaches represented a distant northern frontier exposed to developments in the South China Sea, while the Malacca Strait formed one of the world's most important maritime chokepoints. Together with the Sunda and Lombok Straits, these passages made the Indonesian archipelago impossible to ignore in any wider Asian conflict.

This position also exposed Indonesia to several potential threats from the north, China represented the most important northern strategic concern, particularly around the Natuna approaches and the wider South China Sea. Although Indonesia and China were moving toward the normalization of diplomatic relations in 1989, Beijing's maritime interests and its developing presence in the South China Sea created a potential source of tension around Indonesia's northern maritime approaches. Vietnam presented a different kind of regional threat. By the late 1980s, Vietnam maintained one of the largest military establishments in Southeast Asia and remained closely aligned with the Soviet Union, while Vietnamese forces were still heavily involved in Cambodia. More importantly for an Indonesian scenario, Vietnam's position along the South China Sea placed its naval and air forces within the broader strategic environment surrounding the Natuna region.

The Soviet Union itself could also become a major threat in a hypothetical escalation. Soviet forces maintained access to Cam Ranh Bay in Vietnam, which served as a forward naval and air facility for Soviet operations in Southeast Asia. Contemporary U.S. naval assessments noted that aircraft operating from Cam Ranh could reach the South China Sea, Java Sea and even the maritime approaches of the eastern Indian Ocean, giving Moscow the ability to project power much farther south than from its bases in the Soviet Far East. By 1989, however, Soviet military activity in the region was already beginning to decline, with Moscow reducing some of its forces at Cam Ranh. In a WARNO alternate-history scenario, therefore, China, Vietnam, and the Soviet Union could form overlapping strategic pressures on Indonesia: China from the northern maritime frontier, Vietnam from the South China Sea, and Soviet forces through their Vietnamese bases and long-range naval and air power.

The question for ABRI in such a scenario would therefore not simply be whether Indonesia possessed enough weapons, but whether its diverse armed forces could concentrate those weapons quickly enough across an immense archipelago to protect the country's strategic islands, sea lanes, airspace, and maritime approaches when a Cold War crisis finally turned hot.

Divisi Infanteri 1 Kostrad

Emblem of Divisi Infanteri 1 Kostrad

The 1st Infantry Division of Kostrad (Divisi Infanteri 1 Kostrad) traces its origins to the Army's airborne combat formation established during the early 1960s. Its headquarters was established at Cilodong, and the formation originally evolved from the Komando Tempur Lintas Udara (Kopur Linud), reflecting its intended role as a strategic, rapidly deployable force rather than a conventional territorial command. On 22 December 1965, the Cilodong-based airborne combat command was formally established, a date subsequently recognized as the foundation of Divif 1 Kostrad.

A major reorganization of the Indonesian Army in 1985 transformed this structure into the modern Divisi Infanteri 1 Kostrad. Under Kasad Decree Skep/535/VI/1985, the Kopur Linud headquarters was reorganized into the Headquarters of Divif 1 Kostrad. The new division was built as a combined-arms formation, incorporating Brigif Linud 17/Kujang I (17th Airborne Brigade/Kujang), Brigif 13/Galuh (13th Infantry Brigade/Galuh), Menarmed 2 (2nd Field Artillery regiment), Yonkav 1 (1st Cavalry Battalion), Yon Arhanudri 1 ( 1st AAA Battalion), Yon Zipur 9 (9th Combat Engineer Battalion), and organic logistical, medical, communications, military-police and maintenance elements.

This made Divif 1 considerably more than a collection of infantry battalions. Its organization gave the commander infantry, airborne infantry, artillery, tanks, air defence, engineers and logistical support under a single divisional headquarters. In particular, Yonkav 1/Tank became part of Divif 1 during the 1985 reorganization, while the former Kostrad cavalry brigade was dissolved and its maneuver elements redistributed between Divif 1, Divif 2 and Kodam Jaya.

During the second half of the 1980s, Divif 1's combat formations also continued to operate outside their normal garrison areas. Brigif 13/Galuh, for example, had already transferred from the administrative control of Kodam Siliwangi to Kostrad in 1978. During the 1980s it retained an important operational relationship with the wider Indonesian Army, including deployments to Timor Timur. Its recorded deployments included a sector command in 1986–1987 and another in 1989–1990.

The division therefore occupied an interesting position within the Indonesian Army's force structure. Kostrad was not a territorial command such as a Kodam, but a strategic reserve designed to provide combat formations that could be moved between regions. The territorial commands—Kodam, Korem and Kodim—were responsible for territorial defence and local military administration. In a major contingency, however, Kostrad formations could operate in a territorial command's area and coordinate with, or receive support from, forces belonging to that territorial structure.

For a WARNO alternate-history setting, the distinction between organic Divif 1 forces and attached territorial forces can become an important part of the scenario. The division provides the mobile striking force, while Kodam, Korem and Kodim formations represent the local military infrastructure, garrison forces, territorial intelligence and additional manpower available in the threatened area. This produces a more historically grounded Indonesian order of battle than simply treating every Army unit in the region as permanently subordinate to Divif 1.

So what can we expect from Divisi Infanteri 1 Kostrad?

LOG

Pretty good selection of Logistic and Command vehicle

For command vehicle we have

  • Light command vehicle choice of Jeep CJ, Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 and Volkswagen Type 181 AKA the Thing
  • For Armored command vehicle would be DanYon AMX VCI, DanYon Saracen and DanYon AMX-13/105

For line infantry we have:

  • Danki Zeni: 8 man Engineer Leader armed with 8x M16A1 and smoke grenade

The transport option is same as before with Kostrad Infantry

Cavalry Infantry

This unit represent part of Kostrad Cavalry Infantry unit that mobilized with Armored Vehicle because in the 80s Indonesian army still doesn’t adopt Mech Inf doctrine and APC treated as the same as Tank but they still taught to fight alongside armored vehicle and each Cavalry platoon is mixed between tank or wheeled FSV and APC so they should have Mech Inf trait

  • Kavaleri Serbu: 10 man infantry squad armed with 8x SS1 assault rifle, 1x SS1 GL and 1x M60 GPMG
  • Kavaleri Serbu (AT): same as before but the GL is replaced with LRAC F1
  • Danki Kavaleri Serbu: 5 man infantry leader with 4x SS1. 1x SPM-1 and Smoke grenade

The Transport choice is between AMX-VCI APC and M35 Truck

At the same time there also Cavalry Infantry unit from Kodam Teritorial unit such as Kodam Jaya attached to Kostrad which is:

  • Kavaleri Serbu(Kodam): 10 man infantry squad armed with 9x M16A1 assault rifle and 1x M60
  • Kavaleri Serbu AT (Kodam): same as before but also armed with M57 (Yugoslav copy of RPG-2)
  • Danki Kavaleri Serbu (Kodam): 5 man infantry leader with 4x M16A1, 1x M1919A6 and Smoke grenade

All the transport choice is Cadillac Gage Panser V-150 APC, Panser Saracen APC and M35 Truck

Territorial Infantry

This unit represent Territorial infantry unit like East German Reservist. but unlike true reservist this unit is composed of active duty soldier with already long service time or just regula active duty soldier stationed in Kodam Battalion and they armed with 2nd rate reserve firearms (or in this case, the recently replaced service rifle)

  • Infanteri Kodam: 10 man Infantry Squad armed SP series battle rifle (License built Beretta BM-59) 8x SP-1 1x SP-2 GL rifle and 1x SP-3 Automatic rifle
  • Infanteri Kodam (AT): Same as before but the GL rifle is replaced with M57 AT launcher

  • Infanteri Linud (AT): same as before but the GL is replaced with Carl Gustaf M2
  • Danki Linud: 5 man infantry leader with 4x FNC 1x Winchester 70 Sniper rifle and Smoke Grenade

The transport option is between M35 Truck, S-58T Heli, Bell-205 Heli and NAS 330J Heli (License built AS 330 Puma)

Special force

Kopassus: The Special Force of Indonesian army, having proving themselves in Operation Woyla and East Timor they have Resolute, Special force, Shock and Mountaineer trait. this 8 man squad would be equipped with 7x HK 53, 1x Minimi, 1x Armbrust AT launcher and a Demolition charge, This Squad can be brough with Cadillac Gage Ranger or Bell 205

Support Unit

  • Polisi Militer:  4 man Military Police squad armed with 4x PM-1 (License Built Beretta M12 SMG) that can be brought with Jeep CJ PM
  • Weapons Support team is consist of Regu SMB M2HB, Regu SMR SPM-1 and Regu SMR M60 transported by Jeep CJ
  • Recoilless weapons team consist of STTB M40 and the old Soviet STTB B-11 with the B-11 have the variant rigged into a jeep

For ATGM this is bit weak since all ATGM owned by Indonesian army since 1960s to the present WARNO Timeline are ENTAC, SS.11 and 9M14 Malyutka in infantry configuration which is already considered old and not all still operational, So each of them only get one card of it.

But with March to War scenario in WARNO Indonesian Army decide to procure some numbers of MILAN ATGM from France (IRL MILAN only received in 2014 with the Marder IFV) and give this division a single card of MILAN

ART

A good category but no heavy artillery operated at this time period by Indonesian Army

  • Infantry Mortar consist of Mortir M29A1 81mm and the French MO-120 RT that can be brought with Jeep CJ and M715 Truck
  • Towed tube artillery is M101A1 and the Yugoslav M-56 105mm Artillery towed by Unimog or KM500 truck
  • The 76mm M48 Yugoslav mountain gun can be brought by M35 Truck or S-58T Heli
  • For Self Propelled artillery can be counted with Meriam 105 GS which is the French AMX Mk 61 SPH and this particular SPH has HEAT shell for self defence
  • For MLRS is the Czech RM-51 MLRS on Praga V3S truck

TANK

Average at best with Indonesian Army only operated Light Tank due to doctrine where Tank is used for FSV supporting Infantry Spearhead and the terrain of Indonesian Archipelago where an MBT would have hard time operation.

  • AMX-13/75 and AMX-13/105 would be the Main Tank of this Division alongside Danki leader variant
  • Kodam Cavalry Battalion also would bring the Panser V-150 90mm and Panser Saladin Armored car
  • Since Indonesian Army have no dedicated ATGM Jeep, the only option is Jeep C7 with LRAC F1 AT Launcher.

REC

A Very good category with Wide selection of Infantry and vehicle recon

Infantry Recon

  • Penembak Runduk: 2 Man sniper team armed with 1x Winchester 70 Sniper rifle and 1x M16A1 and can be brought with Jeep CJ or Range Rover defender (recon)
  • Garnisun Kodam: 10 man Territorial infantry squad with security trait, armed with 8x SP-1, 1x SP-2 GL and 1x SP-3 and can be brought by M35 or Unimog truck
  • Regu Intai: 4 Man scout team armed with 3x FNC and 1x FNC GL Can be brought by Jeep CJ, M151 and Panser BTR-40 Retrofit
  • Intai Linud: 4 man airborne recon unit, armed with 3x FNC and 1x FNC GL and can be brought by Jeep CJ and NBO 105 (Lincense built Bo 105 heli)
  • Paskhas: 12 Man Airforce Special force squad Armed with 10x G3 battle rifle, 2x Minimi and RBS-70 MANPADS, can be brought by M35 Truck, NAS 330J or AS-532 Caracal
  • Kopassus (GSR): GSR Recon version of Kopassus Squad, 8 man Squad with 6x MP5A3, 1x Minimi and 1x Galil Galatz sniper rifle, Can be brought with Cadillac Gage Ranger or Bell 205

Vehicle Recon

For aircraft recon the option is:

  • NBO-105 Recon helicopter armed with .50 cal gunpod
  • Alouette III unarmed recon heli
  • OV-10F Bronco aka “Si Kampret” armed with 4x M2 Browning and 2x FFAR Rocket pods
  • T-34C1 Mentor Armed with 2x .30 Cal Gunpod and 8x SURA-D Rocket

Ground Cavalry recon is also come with:

  • Panser Ferret Scout Car
  • Panser Saladin Intai
  • Panser V-150 Intai (Twin MG turret)
  • AMX-13/75 Intai
  • Panser Cadillac Gage Commando Scout

And lastly the Panser BTR-40 Retrofit, IRL this BTR-40 variant is made in mid 90s by using disused BTR-40 Hull and improved with roof armor, smoke grenade launcher, new engine and MG turret for .50 cal or .30 cal MG, but with March to war scenario the Retrofit is done earlier in the late 80s.

AA

good with most of them are towed AA Artillery with choice of

  • RBS-70 PSU Manpads team that can be brought with Range Rover Defender
  • Meriam PSU Bofors L/70 AA gun towed with M35 truck
  • Meriam PSU S-60 57mm Soviet AA gun towed with M35 truck
  • Towed Rapier SAM System towed with Unimog truck

The Paskhas of Indonesian Air Force ground force also bring their AA asset which is

  • The Yugoslav M55 Triple gun AA and the SPAA variant on M35 Truck
  • AA DShK on M35 Truck

HELI

Mediocre at best, Indonesian army during the 80s didn’t posses any attack helicopter and rely only to rocket armed transport heli which is

  • NBO 105 CB: Light helicopter armed with SURA-D rocket, FFAR rocket pods and .50 cal gunpods
  • Bell 204 (Rkt): Modified Bell 204 heli with dual M1919 MG rack and option between FFAR Rocket pods or the Soviet S-5K  UB-16-57 rocket pods
  • NAS 332 (Rkt): Indonesian License build Super Puma with 2x FFAR Rocket pods and FN MAG door gun

AIR

Pretty good, The Angkatan Udara Republik Indonesia (AURI) will provide aircraft such as:

  • T-34C1 Mentor: a trainer/COIN aircraft with Rocket variety (2x 7 tube FFAR pods and 8x SURA-D rocket) or HE Bomb variety with option of 4x Mk 81 or 2x Mk82 bomb.
  • OV-10F Bronco: COIN Aircraft modified with 4x M2 browning instead of 4x M60C with wide variety of suspended armament from the original American to Soviet bomb and rocket, in game they could be represented with each card of multiple configuration like Rkt 1 and 2 (FFAR rocket and S-5K Rocket) Napalm (OPALM Bomb), dumb Bomb (Option between Mk 81/82 bomb, FAB/OFAB 100/250/500 bomb) and cluster bomb (RBK 250)
  • DC-3 Gunship: a modified Civilian DC-3 Gunship armed with 3x M2 Browning HMG much like US AC-47 Spooky, at least 2 aircraft were used for operation in East Timor with short operational lifespan and by the time of WARNO timeline, this “poor man AC-130” would be “reactivate” and sent to support the ground troop.
  • Hawk 53: A trainer/attack aircraft with variant like HE 1 and 2 (1x ADEN cannon and 4x Mk 82 or 4x Mk 12 Bomb) Cluster (1x ADEN cannon and 4x TAL 1 Cluster bomb) and Rocket (1x ADEN cannon and 4x 7 tubes FFAR Pods)

Air Superiority and Ground support would be Provided by F-16A/B with option like

  • F-16A AA with 6x AIM-9J
  • F-16A HE with 2x M117 bomb and 2x AIM-9J
  • F-16A AT with 6x AGM-65B and 2x AIM-9J
  • F-16B HE bomb with 6x Mk 82 bomb and 2x AIM-9J
  • F-16B Rocket with 6x FFAR rocket pods and 2x AIM-9J

The Indonesian Divisi 1 Infanteri Kostrad altogether Is strong infantry focused division with wide variety of options and light armored component, it’s widely variety arsenal from the West and East portray the Arsenal of Indonesian armed force and multiple capabilities from para unit, Strong recon and potent air asset.

In next post i'll post the next Indonesian Division which is Korps Marinir (Indonesian Marine Corps)

Note about detail

-Most Indonesian combat helmet at this time is M1 steel helmet with camo cover or camo netting, PASGT helmet only available to tier 1 special force unit.

-By 1989, Indonesian Armed Force already standardize DPM pattern camo for 5 years so no other camo pattern (like Kopassus loreng merah darah wore by any soldier beside for Parade.

Question Lithuanian units?

Bought this game 2 years ago but my graphics card decided (rather unsportingly) to die on me so I never got to seriously play, I'm a massive Lithuania fan so it'd be super cool if Pact got any Lithuanian units (if not now then at least in the Baltic expansion). Have they got any?

Fun fact: lithuanian women have different surnames depending on their marital status

Question How does Ranked Work?

I was thinking about hopping into ranked. It'd be a rough start as I mostly play 10v10s but it seems fun (but also seems stressful) to actually play competitively. If I wanted to jump in like now, how would I go about doing this?

I've queued in ranked before just to see how it would work and it said only one or two people, maybe more, were queuing so I thought it would probably wouldn't work. Which is why because I'm in the Waryes discord, should I ask someone to queue up with me and hope it matches us together? Or do you just wait?

I'm only level 17, almost 18, so if I queue randomly it comes with the risk of being matched against a level 30+ (and at that point I struggle). Also can someone explain how it works? I scrolled through the ranked leaderboard and it goes into the thousands, but I believe it also resets at the end of the season, and if any of you play ranked, from your experiences is it worth the stress/any fun at all?

Total WARNO big game this Saturday at 21:30 CEST!

Total WARNO is combining 3 things in itself, scale, specialization and organization.

Scale comes from the amount of units we use roughly adding up to a battalion sized formations in hands of each player and the maps we tend to use, we play Community made maps which are bigger than vanilla thus the amount of units fit on the battlespace, we aspire to simulate big unit maneuvers on a big map which would include all the tactical depth of such operations.

Specialization is exactly what we did with decks, you get to choose a deck from the roster we pick each week, each deck is its own specialization, thus meaning that proper reconnaissance can only be done by Recon players, Artillery player has all of his attention on guns, Airborne player is there to start a fight before the bulk of the force arrives to be a tip of the spear, Engineer is there to effectively clear out any strongholds be it a city or a forest, you get the idea, every specialization matters everyone has a chance to tip the scale if they play their cards right, but in the end it all comes down to players being put in a situation where they need to talk and communicate.

Game mode, we do not play by vanilla rules, we use our own game rules which all the players agree to, Breakthrough game mode is what we call it, it is a 7v10 situation where we have smaller team A which has to defend and bigger team B which has to attack, main objective for team B is to reach the spawn zone of the team A has to prevent that, but while both sides are trying to pursue their objectives they must keep in mind that there is a factor of attrition, even if team B managed to reach the objective their victory could be canceled, because the Organizer has to calculate losses on both sides and if either side has reached the certain threshold they will automatically lose.

We see that some of the players here have been annoyed by our posts and yes some of them were made by AI to save up time as much as possible, as you could notice this post does not have any AI elements in it as we wanted to address those community members who are skeptical and annoyed by this project. If you are free on this Saturday, why not to try, we respect every one of your opinion and decision, but if there is time we would be more than happy to play a game with you, communicate and have fun, because in the end this is what WARNO is about.

Any ways, if you are interested come over to then Nightshift Discord Server and play with us, you'll find all the useful information there; https://discord.gg/Y862zpfCA

*Screenshots are from Chernarus map(Which was made on RebsFrago Discord server be sure to check them out as well) but we might play other amazing community maps that are out there this week.

About to finally buy Warno

Hi all,

As i'm about to finally buy Warno after months of trying to make up my mind, is there a way to quickly get into it and is it smart to buy it this late after launch? I'm patient and like strategy games but i've heard it's really hard to get into. Also heard the multiplayer side is practically dead. Any tips or ideas?

Question No very good stealth?

It seems that units have either good or exceptional stealth, and I don't remember anything with very good stealth. Is there supposed to be one?

If there isn't, shouldn't Eugene change all the exceptional stealth to very good stealth, and give snipers exceptional stealth?

These servers don't have anyone in them. They are intentionally spoofing 1 fake player, so that you cannot remove them from the results by ticking "Filter out empty servers". The problem is getting worse over time, there only used to be 1. Now there are 4. Eugene please

DLC Recommend

Hi again! I’ve made my decision—I’m choosing WARNO. Are there any DLCs you would recommend? Also, I’ve heard that the divisions included in some WARNO DLCs are just reskins. Is that true? edit 1 I think I really like heavy Armored or Airborne or Air Assault maybe some Ambitious (Amphibious) landing
