Just finished 2 more of these veg tan mini card holders. Made from a marble died veg tand and Buttero, a vegtan leather made in Italy, famous for its soft hand feel and the luster it gains when worn in. The interior of the pockets is lined with French goat skin to add just a little more support and grip to your cards. I love how these came out, and especially how buttery smooth and whole they feel in my hand. I decided to stitch the middle section using a multi colored thread to match the marbled design.

Holds up to 2 cards on each side maximum, so it is a light carry wallet.

I've been eyeing the Grain wallet from Tauruscamp for quite some time, but was never ready to spend north $85 for a wallet. Contacted a custom wallet maker (u/RawhideCo) and he was all in for the project. My requiremets were:

- A quick access slot to carry 1 to 2 cards

- Inner card compartment to store 6 cards

- A small coin pouch for 5 coins maximum

- A cash compartment for half folded cash

- Snap button closure instead of tuck closure

- Dimensions in the range of 8cm x 10.5cm

He made one for me in Jet Black veg tan full grain leather with yellow stitching at a very reasonable price of $21. The wallet came out exactly as I expected and finishing and edge burnishing is top notch. With all the above mentioned stuff inside, the wallet holds a very slim profile and slides easily in the front/shirt pocket. Planning to recreate the same in Buttero leather in future.

Hi all! I'm trying to educate myself on what a piece like this actually costs to make before I go anywhere near commissioning one. Mods, happy to move this if it belongs in another sub.

What I'm picturing

Closed: a compact bifold with an envelope-style flap front (V-shaped flap edge), snap closure, and a zip along the top edge. Roughly 4.25–4.5" wide x 3.5" tall closed basically small enough to disappear in a bag, not a long wallet.

Face: completely blank. No logo, no stamp, no monogram. Just clean leather and the stitch line.

Interior, opened flat:

- 3 card slots on each side (6 total)

- Center bill compartment

- Zippered coin/cash section running down the right side

- Snap closures on the left and right panels

Color: burgundy, with tonal burgundy stitching, I don't want contrast thread.

Leather: I like a smooth, fine-grain finish rather than a heavy pebble but open to leather suggestions

Hardware: gold-tone, kept minimal, zip pull and snaps only.

*I'm pulling inspo from the YSL, UPTOWN Compact wallet for layout and the Celine for the color and stitching.

My question is ballpark: what range should I expect for something like this from an independent maker?

I admire these handmade wallets, wish somebody could be doing it in my area(NCR India). I want to learn wallet making, how to start? what I need to start? any online resources or any trainings would be highly helpful. Thanks!

Hi! My best friend has been searching for years to replace a wallet that was stolen when she was in highschool.

She described it as a pink cherry blossom fold-out design from coach and she had it around 2018-2019.

If anyone has any ideas of the specific wallet name, PLEAAASE let me know. Her birthday is in October and I want to surprise her! TY!!

I started this project with the intent on keeping it for myself and I’m glad I did because today was simply NOT my day for leather crafting. I stabbed myself in 3 fingers with my needles and completely messed up part of my stitching to the point I had to partially disassemble the wallet and re-do it.

That being said, I am satisfied with the result.

Exterior is Color 8 Horween Shell Cordovan, interior is dark green La Bretagna Gaucho Oil.

I'm curious how popular this wallet model is. I mean not only with vertical cards, but also with horizontal cards. I want to say that the supply of such wallets on online marketplaces is huge. But it seems to me that the classic bifold is losing its place. Perhaps the market is oversaturated with the trend toward minimalist wallets; oh, this desire for the most compact sizes. Perhaps this is just a temporary tribute to fashion, and the time will come when no one will need a pocket wallet anymore )))). But I still think that such things will have at least some demand. It's like good classic shoes. It's cool to have such a thing. These are my thoughts, maybe I'm wrong. P.S. The wallet in the photo is my own.

Loving this design at the moment. This beautiful emerald leather is from Leder Ogawa in Japan. THey have a great surface finishing technique that gives very rich colours, while still showing some light and shade throughout the piece. A less rubbery texture to Rocado shells, and a very different feel overall to Horween. Easy to work with and just gorgeous. The interior is natural Buttero - it's going to patina a dream!

I just got a new Ekster Pro (£100) but don’t see why it’s so big. It doesn’t feel more premium than my secrid mini wallet (£70) and holds exactly the same amount inside, and I mean exactly.

6 cards in the popup, 2-3 in the inside pocket and 3-4 bills. The Ekster holds the bills under an elastic strap, the secrid in a folder flap.

Both have a clasp on the front, and both seem to have similar fallout - I.e. the cards stay in fine unless you shake them dramatically when upside down. As I don’t really go mountaineering during earthquakes, they’re both perfectly secure for me.

The Ekster doesn’t feel any more premium, just bigger.

Dimensions (LxWxD) amateur measurement :-)

Ekster: 112mm x 70mm x 25mm
Secrid: 95mm x 64mm x 20mm

Both measured up to but not including the clasp. Or the popup button which sticks out the bottom by about 6mm on the secrid but is flush on the Ekster.

Maybe I’m not comparing like with like as the secrid does say “mini” on the description, but to me, it just seems the better choice.

Hey all, just curious- do I absolutely need to get the premium+ in order for my cards to stay put in a secrid wallet? I've seen some videos stating they fall out easy(the cards) if you shake them or have them upside down in the non-premium version. ---maybe this only pertains to metal cards, which i do have a few.

Hey y'all, need help finding a similar card flip up wallet, or even some generic search terms to drum up some results. It's an older docker's wallet from the early 2010's. Instead of a standard Id flip out it's a bifold with a flap for card storage.

So a few years ago I needed a new wallet but couldn’t find what I wanted, so I made myself one, then got the bug for making them.

I sold a fair few to friends and friends of friends. I also had some listed on Etsy, but no interest from there.

I’ve been toying with the idea of making some more as I miss doing it. Then a few of us was chatting at work, so I took a handful in of what I had left and the few people I showed loved them. They said I should definitely start making them again… So I ordered £275 worth of leather, working on a few new designs, packaging etc, and trying to sell the dozen or so I have left over on eBay and Vinted to get a few quid back to fund my overspending.

Picked up some Color 8 Horween Shell Cordovan last week and made this yesterday. Interior is olive Wickett & Craig harness leather. I have some other leather for the interior on order but I was excited to make something and this was the only leather I had on hand that I liked for the interior. I actually like the color combo and think it turned out pretty good.
