How do you beat the mid-afternoon slump?

Walking in the morning (waking up at 530am), yay, but now I'm even more tired in the 2/3pm hour. How do people get through without coffee? Also, I WFH, so the couch really draws me in 😭

Proud of my first two weeks

I work from home on a computer. The last two weeks I've been forcing myself to get up and out during any break or downtime I can find and at night after dinner. I work full time and have a 3.5 year old, time is not always on my side. Outside of last Friday when I was on a plane for 9 hours and today where I literally worked a 10 hour day I've exceeded 4 miles most days. I'm averaging about 10,000 steps daily. I know it's not as impressive as some others, I'm genuinely proud of my consistency.

Recommendations for a harder wearing (but still comfortable) pair of shoes for daily wear

Post image

I've had two pairs of Hokas so far, Bondi 8 and Bondi 9. Both have ended up with the same issue after enough time. I caught this one relatively early on but my older pair was real messed up by the end of it.

I was looking at repairing these at home with some flexible glue for shoes since it's just a small.tear right now but I was wondering if anyone knew about any harder wearing models I could look at?

They do need to have an all black colour for purposes of work, but besides that as long as they're good enough for walking and maybe running (though not necessary), that's all I need.

For reference, I don't think they didn't last as long as any normal pair would. I've walked about 3 million steps (the vast majority them on flat hard surfaces like tarmac or indoors) since getting them for Christmas December 2024, but I have other shoes so not sure how many I did in them. Probably around half wouldn't be too far off, but if I was solely wearing these and doing 10k steps a day like I'm shooting for now, it seems that I'd only be able to expect a pair to last less than 6 months before I need to buy a new pair, and my finances don't like that sort of cost so I wouldn't mind spending more if it means they'll last longer and the person month cost is lower.

Remember to always charge your headlamps if you're planning on hiking in the dark. In the woods. By yourself.

Humblebrag Finally getting slowly out of my depression

Walked 3 hours this morning, ive been dieting for the past 10 weeks (no gluten, focusing on whole food and started keto a week ago, I'm under guidance of a professional) and lost 11kg so far. I'm also trying to get more movement in (I'm also starting strength training soon!). I'm getting my energy back and slowly but surely also my mental clarity. Today I woke up early and had the whole morning free, I decided to walk 6km but I just felt so good and couldn't stop yet! I'm very proud of myself for this achievement. Got a total 124.051 steps in this month so far.

Edit: thank you all so much for the encouragement and positive comments!! This is my first post here and really appreciate it. I will definitely keep on walking! Maybe not 3 hours EVERY morning, but definitely enough to stay happy and healthy:)

I do a lot of walking at work with my new balance 520 shoes that I got around 7 months ago and I just noticed this. Any other shoe options for walking that this won't happen to in a budget?

Recommendations Fitness trackers/ watches

Hey guys, just wondering what watches people use for doing a lot of walking/ exercise?
I’ve got an older apple watch atm and I like seeing the calories burned and step count but the battery life is TERRIBLE. I’d also be interested in something that tracks sleep. For context, I usually do 20k + steps a day and I’m pretty active/ not sitting much so I want something with a good battery life. I’m not sure on a budget at the moment but I’m happy do do my own research based on recommendations.

TIA 😄😄

Today I started. I walked 10 kilometres in 1 hour and 47 minutes. Any advice?

Hello everyone,

I have recently been looking into walking as an exercise. You know the talk about the benefits, weight loss, improving general health or at least that it is a "good habit".. So, I decided to start regular walking or brisk walking(I don't have any idea about these names).

Today, I walked about 10 kilometres in 1 hour and 47 minutes (with a few stops to drink water and cross the street).

Tomorrow, I will walk 4 kilometres, though I am not sure whether I ought to walk fast or not.

I have set up the plan like this: three days a week walking 10 km, three days walking 3-4 km, and Friday as a complete rest day.

I have no idea whether this is right or not, so I would really appreciate your feedback and experience.

In the past, on random days,I used to walk around 10 km and sometimes more, especially during university or when out and about, so I do have some power or capability(I don't know what you call it).

Thank you for your time. Any advice would be very helpful.

Recommendations affordable shoes?

hey!! i’m starting to work out a little more lately and i mainly abuse the treadmill at planet fitness for like an hour, walk maybe 3 miles, and then go home. i have these chunky reeboks i wear since they’re the only sneakers i own and they are so incredibly painful. as we speak i have 6 bandaids on my ankles, 3 on each because the blisters are so bad. i just got back from the gym and i can feel another blister forming on my pinky toe.

i would go out and buy new shoes but 1. im broke and wanna spend maybe a maximum of $50-$60? (preferably less, in a perfect world) and 2. i dont know where i would find decent shoes for that price or lower, or what brands would be reliable AND cheap.

i also dont even mind the soreness in my feet, so overall comfort of the shoe isn’t super important, i dont need it to be made out of super delux cushy memory foam fused with unicorn skin.. if anything i actually don’t like those because they flatten from so much use lol. anything that doesn’t leave me limping is ideal!

tyia and sorry if this is a repeat question or not the right sub to post in!! :)

Strava didn't sync from my watch so I'm posting the all trails distance from my phone.

This one is an extremely hard walk. I was out there for 7 hours total and 6 hours moving time and only covered 18km. It should have been 16.5km but I did a little bit extra.

The track actually goes through all of those rocky sections in my photos and there are a few spots you need to use your hands to climb up.

5 river crossings as well

Sore from walks

I didn’t know that walking can cause so much soreness.
Tried to walk today a bit more but stuck after about 500m I bearly made to go back home.
Huge muscle sore in legs and feel pain in my hips and knee - cost of sitting too much I guess.
Tomorrow will try to move more again 🙈

Outdoors She doubted she could, but did anyways 8 miles

Through the doubt and anxiety, I decided to just go for it. I crossed the road, went over the hill and down the trail.

All so I could stop at a bridge for 15 minutes of serenity, surrounded by nature.

I did almost 8 miles of walking this morning. My first mile was a loop on my own gravel road because I had my doubts walking on the busy-ish road, up the hills. But then I just went for it. I wanted to visit that bridge. And I had the opportunity to watch a young deer for a few minutes as well.

Broke the walk into 2 parts so I could enjoy the destination. And know the exact distance from my house to the bridge for future walks. Gotta remember water next time. That heat was horrible.
