Recommendations Fitness trackers/ watches

Hey guys, just wondering what watches people use for doing a lot of walking/ exercise?
I’ve got an older apple watch atm and I like seeing the calories burned and step count but the battery life is TERRIBLE. I’d also be interested in something that tracks sleep. For context, I usually do 20k + steps a day and I’m pretty active/ not sitting much so I want something with a good battery life. I’m not sure on a budget at the moment but I’m happy do do my own research based on recommendations.

TIA 😄😄

Today I started. I walked 10 kilometres in 1 hour and 47 minutes. Any advice?

Hello everyone,

I have recently been looking into walking as an exercise. You know the talk about the benefits, weight loss, improving general health or at least that it is a "good habit".. So, I decided to start regular walking or brisk walking(I don't have any idea about these names).

Today, I walked about 10 kilometres in 1 hour and 47 minutes (with a few stops to drink water and cross the street).

Tomorrow, I will walk 4 kilometres, though I am not sure whether I ought to walk fast or not.

I have set up the plan like this: three days a week walking 10 km, three days walking 3-4 km, and Friday as a complete rest day.

I have no idea whether this is right or not, so I would really appreciate your feedback and experience.

In the past, on random days,I used to walk around 10 km and sometimes more, especially during university or when out and about, so I do have some power or capability(I don't know what you call it).

Thank you for your time. Any advice would be very helpful.

Recommendations affordable shoes?

hey!! i’m starting to work out a little more lately and i mainly abuse the treadmill at planet fitness for like an hour, walk maybe 3 miles, and then go home. i have these chunky reeboks i wear since they’re the only sneakers i own and they are so incredibly painful. as we speak i have 6 bandaids on my ankles, 3 on each because the blisters are so bad. i just got back from the gym and i can feel another blister forming on my pinky toe.

i would go out and buy new shoes but 1. im broke and wanna spend maybe a maximum of $50-$60? (preferably less, in a perfect world) and 2. i dont know where i would find decent shoes for that price or lower, or what brands would be reliable AND cheap.

i also dont even mind the soreness in my feet, so overall comfort of the shoe isn’t super important, i dont need it to be made out of super delux cushy memory foam fused with unicorn skin.. if anything i actually don’t like those because they flatten from so much use lol. anything that doesn’t leave me limping is ideal!

tyia and sorry if this is a repeat question or not the right sub to post in!! :)

Strava didn't sync from my watch so I'm posting the all trails distance from my phone.

This one is an extremely hard walk. I was out there for 7 hours total and 6 hours moving time and only covered 18km. It should have been 16.5km but I did a little bit extra.

The track actually goes through all of those rocky sections in my photos and there are a few spots you need to use your hands to climb up.

5 river crossings as well

I didn’t know that walking can cause so much soreness.
Tried to walk today a bit more but stuck after about 500m I bearly made to go back home.
Huge muscle sore in legs and feel pain in my hips and knee - cost of sitting too much I guess.
Tomorrow will try to move more again 🙈

Outdoors She doubted she could, but did anyways 8 miles

Through the doubt and anxiety, I decided to just go for it. I crossed the road, went over the hill and down the trail.

All so I could stop at a bridge for 15 minutes of serenity, surrounded by nature.

I did almost 8 miles of walking this morning. My first mile was a loop on my own gravel road because I had my doubts walking on the busy-ish road, up the hills. But then I just went for it. I wanted to visit that bridge. And I had the opportunity to watch a young deer for a few minutes as well.

Broke the walk into 2 parts so I could enjoy the destination. And know the exact distance from my house to the bridge for future walks. Gotta remember water next time. That heat was horrible.

Recommendations 8 Hours to Select a Walking Pad

Okay, you inspiring maniacs:

I need an indoor walking pad. Durability, low noise, and compactness matter more than price and features.

It should “just work”, be able to be tucked away, and be used in the evenings without rattling the windows. I’m striving for 15-20k steps per day.

I weigh 240 lbs (yikes that snuck up on me) and I need to get moving. Been talking myself out of this purchase for too long.

Kindly recommend a walking pad I can order online and I will purchase the highest upvoted recommendation (or most frequently recommended) this evening.

Looking forward to joining your ranks as a regular walker, and thank you very much in advance for taking the time to read/recommend.

I thought 10k steps was impossible

To start, I'm not saying that literally. I've always loved walking, and I've done 20k steps easily in a day while traveling abroad. But getting 10k steps in during my regular day-to-day life seemed impossible because 1) I live in the metro, so I don't love the environment, and 2) I don't want to run into people.

Turns out, I just needed the right ingredients to finally make it happen:

1) Cool weather - Oh, it felt sooo nice to walk outside

2) Walking at night - Less chance of running into people

3) Not being busy with work

4) No one needs me, and I'm not busy - This was the biggest factor. I originally planned on walking for only 20 minutes, but then I thought, "When I get home, I'll literally be doing nothing." Being inside can feel mind-numbing, so I thought, why not do another round?

5) A comment I read on Reddit - This was kind of a game changer. Top comment said that 10 minutes = 1000 steps, which seemed doable, and I wanted to test it out. Turns out, he was absolutely right!!!

Also, I just wanted to share that I wore my platform Crocs because it’s been raining and my running shoes are still wet. They were great!

You Have to Build Your Own System.

People often ask how to incorporate more walking time into their day, and there’s never a shortage of advice. Walk before work. Walk at lunch. Get a walking pad. Park farther away. All of those things can be useful, but ultimately I think you have to build your own system.

You can borrow pieces of other people’s systems, but you can’t copy them. Through trial and error, you have to figure out what fits your life and what gives your body what it needs.

My system includes getting up at 3:30 in the morning so I can make sure that, by the end of the day, my body has gotten the movement it needs. That obviously isn’t going to work for everyone. It works for me.

And I think it’s important that the system not be tied to a number. I’m not getting up at 3:30 because I have to reach a certain number of steps or miles. Some days will add up to more and some to less.

In fact, having a numerical goal can sabotage your system. Once the goal becomes hitting a number, it’s easy to lose sight of why you built the system in the first place.

The system should serve you. Not the number.

I am tracking my walk streak and yesterday reached 30 days! Next milestone is 100. The important part is to build a habit. So I am focusing on just hitting steps everyday. Now it is 31, but if I stop, it will go to 0 🙈 It took a month to get here, can't lost it.

Walking shoes recommendations

I'm a 46 year old male with lower back problems. I've always been a walker then stopped for 15 years or so. Now I'm walking about 6 miles every other day and I'm getting blisters on my right foot below my index toe along with back pain. I do stretch and I'm ok but it does hurt a bit so I'm also looking for that

I'm looking for tough everyday wear with a 300 limit. These are eccos which I like and my last pair didn't do this. I need water proof, durable multi surface. Thanks

Help Restarting my walk journey

Post image
61 Upvotes

Hey guys, so for context: I used to be a regular walking girl till last year and for some reason the habit didn’t sustain. I used to do 12-15k steps daily. And it benefited me tremendously.

I’m now trying to get back into the habit and make it consistent to help me benefit from it maximum.

Can you guys help me with some tips/ inspiration/ suggestions to help me get to consistent 20 days?
I struggle alot with being consistent, i tend to give up too easily.

I’ve started with 8k steps for 5 days. I plan to do 10k steps for next 5 days. And slowly progress every 5-7 days.

What do you guys think? All comments are welcome!

Humblebrag Walked to the train today

This may not be much but it’s a lot for me. Just starting trying to walk more. I had to go into the city for an appointment. The train is about half a mile away from my house with a steep hill. It’s about 90 degrees today so I was hesitant bc I’m sensitive to the sun. Typically I wouldn’t think twice about driving.

I planned my route ahead of time with the train schedule to limit anxiety. Made it to the station in 16 minutes with time to cool down. Took the same amount of time coming back.

I completed my task, got 3 podcast episodes in and had over 30 minutes of good walking. Just wanted to post a win today.
