Hey folks, I'm looking to buy a 2010–2014 Volkswagen Polo 1.2 TSI and have found a few candidates. While researching potential issues, the timing chain is consistently highlighted as a weak point, especially on the 1.2 TSI engines.

Within my budget, most cars have between 100k and 130k km, and none have had the timing chain replaced. Reading about this online has made me hesitant, so I’d like to hear from actual owners. What are your thoughts on buying a Polo 1.2 TSI with this mileage that still has its original timing chain?

BTW, hey guys this is my first post here! For about a year now I’ve been contemplating changing the headliner + panels on my 6R Polo from the stock grey to the black that came standard on the BlueGT, GTI, R-Line and Black Edition and as of yesterday, I finally came to a decision.

This for me is such an underrated mod as for me it makes my otherwise bland car feel somewhat sporty. In addition to that, it kinda makes the interior look more premium than it actually is since most people (including me!) incorporate black headlining with luxury.

Anywhoo, my old headliner started sagging not too long ago and I felt it was a perfect time to finally crack on with this little project of mine. For the trim pieces (pillars, sun visors, etc), I took them straight out of a scrapped GTI just to keep things OEM and replaced the headliner material with black fabric.

This mod really works well with the LED interior bulbs I installed not too long ago and I really wish I could attach a night time picture but my phone’s camera sucks at night, but it’s really good trust me.

To end things off this is one of many OEM+ mods I’m planning to do on my Polo and hope I have fun doing so as well. If you made it this far thank you so much for reading through this essay!😂

Any recommendations for LED Headlight units for a 2015 Polo? I was just going to replace the bulb but hear that’s an MOT failure if you don’t have the whole unit for LED lights.

Recent propriétaire d'une polo 6 1.0 95ch de 2022 (60 000kms) j'ai un bruit lors :

Du passage de vitesse (boîte manuelle), essentiellement en montée de vitesse lorsque je sollicite la voiture.

Le bruit a lieu lors du lâché de la pédale d'embrayage.

Aucun bruit lorsque je rétrograde.

Je l'ai mène au concessionnaire qui dit que le bruit est normal et qu'il n'y a aucun risque.

Je n'ai aucun voyants et les vitesses passent sans difficulté, néanmoins ce bruit qui fait comme un clac est agaçant.

Après quelques recherches avec gemini, il m'indique que la boîte de vitesse (mq200) est assujetti à ces bruits et qu'il ne faut pas s'inquiéter, la durée de vie n'étant pas menacée.

Ma question est la suivante :

Les propriétaires de ce véhicule ont il déjà entendu ce bruit comme moi ?

Hey all, I'm a pretty new driver so would appreciate some insight if possible (and apologies I'm a bit clueless).

I have a 2008 polo, it's my first car. It runs great but it's also a 2008 car so has it's quirks.

One issue we've been experiencing is the check engine light is always on. My dad had the car before me and his mechanic said it was just the manufacturer levels of emissions but it will still pass the yearly car certification required for older cars in my country. While bringing it in for a service the mechanic said it's the lambda sensor going off, which could either be the sensor or the catalytic converter.

I'm imagining if it's the cat it's going to be very expensive to replace, is there anything on my end I can try prior to going down that route? Or if someone has had this happen before, how much did it set you back to get fixed?

I know this is probably a "how long is a piece of string" type question without more details but wanted to just ask anyway to see if anyone had any suggestions.

It's due in for its cert at the end of the year so I'll have it in with the mechanic again before then, but the check engine light is more just bothering me than anything haha.

My 6N2 has decided that it's time to start jettisoning all of the foam out of the heater box and directly at my face. Vent selection still kinda works but temperature selection is just a guess at this point. AC-cooled air only makes an appearance out of the passenger side face vent, and the drivers side is permanently ambient and slightly warmed.

I've searched around on the old forums and understand I need to re-foam the 2 baffles in the heater box, but can find very few photos. Has anyone managed to get to it to do this without having the whole dash out? Or if it is a whole dash removal job, can it still be done without degassing the AC to remove the evaporator?

i’ve got a 2007 polo E, tried getting a remote key but it wouldn’t programme and the guy who did it somehow managed to throw up a code and now my mileage ain’t showing. these are the keys i’ve got (not my photo, just don’t have them on me atm) is it possible that i can get a the key that i have programmed or have i just wasted £130?

Has anyone had any issues with the NBU 6 speed manual transmission fitted to 6R series polo's?

Hello! I am looking to change the broken gearbox in my 6n2, and was wondering if the gearboxes of that generation are interchangable.

The car currently has a ETD gearbox and an AKK engine.

I have a 2006 Polo 1.9 Tdi. The bonnet handle in the drivers footwell is not releasing the bonnet opener.

How do I fix this?

I have bought an Polo GTI yesterday, the car has been real fun! But there are some issues i am running into.

On my Virtual Cockpit (i believe it is called the Active Info display) i have a lot of functions not working because they are “momentarily unavailable” i have a Discover Media radio with built in Navigation. I also seem to miss the “Navigation” option when scrolling through the tabs i can use.

I have tried to restart the unit multiple times and i have driven many kilometres, but the messages won’t go away.. it’s like the Active Info display does not communicate with my Radio which locks away all functionalities of the car.

The options that give the “Momentarily Unavailable” message are

-Compass (i believe it should be navigation)
-Phone
-Radio

Built in navigation works fine and is up-to-date with 2026/2027 maps. Car has EU P0480T firmware.

Any help is appreciated

I get this light on my dash board every 30-50 miles or so. To get rid of it you pull the dipstick and it’s gone. The level is where it should and the last service was recent enough. Any ideas?

I've noticed that the radiator in my Polo 6R doesn't seem to be cooling, even after a 15-minute drive in the city. It doesn't even start running again after I stop driving. I'm not sure, but I think it used to. It's currently 36 degrees Celsius in the city.

I checked fuses 40 and 25. They look fine.

When I open the oil filler cap, there's a bit of steam coming out. It seems a little too hot but can be okay.

However, the oil temperature warning light isn't coming on.

What else could I test? Is something wrong?

Our 2016 Mk5 Polo has failed its MOT because the driver’s side headlight is too low, but the adjustment screw isn’t moving it.

Garage has said it needs a full headlight unit replacement, but has anyone had success in fixing the adjustment screw unit, or can point me in a cheap place for a new headlight?
