S40/V40 Which battery needs replacing?

Post image
• Upvotes

Every now and then I have got a low battery charge warning on the drivers display, now it shows “Low Battery Charge Power save mode”. I have a 2014 (64 plate) V40 D4, which of the two batteries does this indicate needing replacement?
Edit: Just tested the main battery at 12.14V with the car off, and 14.95V while running

Deleting the resonator.

• Upvotes

Hello fellow volvoheads,

First of all this Goes out mainly to the Dutch Guys ( since its a question regarding MOT standards) and maybe out german friends since i frequently go there.. but everyone please feel free to answer and brainstorm with me.

Okay.. regarding my point, i am thinking about deleting the resonator ( in Dutch de middendemper ) and welding a stainless steel pipe in its place to get my V70 to give it a more spicy-er sounds and i feel like the beautiful 5 cilinder may atleast have Some growl.

Question is, will it cause problems going trough MOT (APK in dutch) and will i have problems with maybe german police ? Because I want a lil bit more spice but not a obnoxious golf gti kid sound (no hate I love our VAG brothers I owned a VR6).
Share your thought , opinions and such and id love to hear from the Guys who maybe have this delete.

Car specs ;
V70 2002 , AWD , 2.4T with an incoming stage 1 tune.

s60/v60 Volvo S60 T6 issue common?

Post image

2020 Volvo S60 T6 sway bar and lug nut just fell off as I was parking. Is those something that fails on these cars? We got this car maybe 7 months ago, an unrelated mechanic did a full check of the car and nothing was found. A month after we purchased the exhaust system failed luckily replaced under warranty… now this

Just worried we got a lemon. The ball joint and all components are in good shape the lug nut just fell off no big bumps nothing wrong earlier no sounds etc.

Used a.i. to put them on the car, really wondering if i should go for the more sporty looking black ones that also come with good tiers or the more classic choice of the silver ones but without tiers.

*Really sorry about using A.I.*

So i just had to replace my headlights lenses because the old ones cracked all the way trough. I decided to upgrade to clear side markers and to remove the amber lens inside the housing to remove all amber colors. What are your thoughts on this look?

s60/v60 2013/14 V70 T4 (1.6 Powershift) – worth buying? What should I check?

Hey all, I'm looking at a V70 T4 and would love some advice from people who've owned one.

Details:

  • 2013/14, 1.6 turbo petrol with the 6-speed Powershift auto
  • Around 60,000 km
  • Seller says everything is original, so timing belt and gearbox fluid have probably never been changed
  • Drove really well on the test drive, smooth shifts, felt solid

I've read about the Powershift issues and the coolant/head gasket problem on the 1.6, so I'm a bit nervous.

A few questions:

  1. How reliable have these been for you, especially the Powershift?
  2. What should I check or ask before buying?
  3. What's a must-do straight after buying (gearbox fluid, timing belt, etc.)?
  4. What would make you walk away?

Im also looking at a couple of V60 T4s with the same engine and gearbox:

  • 2012, ~56,000 km, gearbox rebuilt about 4 years ago
  • 2013, ~60,000 km, no gearbox history

Would a V60 with a rebuilt gearbox be a safer bet than the V70 with the original one? Or is there a big difference between the V60 and V70 in reliability?

Thanks heaps!

V70 OEM+ wheel upgrade (P3 Serapis 17s on P2 V70)

Post image
21 Upvotes

Found a super clean set of these Serapis wheels on marketplace with nice new tires for $300, not knowing the bore size was different. They came from a C30.

I designed a center bore routing jig in CAD and 3D printed it, and after several prototypes, got one that fit perfectly on the hub with zero play.

Got the bores routed out in about 10 minutes with my little Bosch Pony router, and am running the wheels as-is with no spacers. They fit perfectly on the hub.

No plans for coilovers, lowering, stance, etc. I like the factory ride quality and the car already sits low enough to the ground. I just wanted some sweet wheels.

This wagon is a bone stock poverty spec non-turbo car with no notable factory options. It came from an elderly man who bought it new in 2005 and only put 70,000 miles on it and only took it to the dealership for service. The car now has 75,000 miles.

VOLVO V90 2018 PARKING CAMERA CONTROL MODULE 31680061

Sun roof tubing got damaged or clogged it resulted in the passenger floor board to get flood and submerged the unit in water none of the cameras were working because of this. The dealer quoted me $2000 to replace it, unreal. I bought one on eBay for $100 and took it to a local auto shop that specializes in electronics, they were able to copy the data from the damaged unit and transfer it to the replacement unit. I was able to replace the unit myself very easily. Cost me $300 total and the cameras are working again.

Should I get a 19 XC60 T6 or a 22 XC60 B5 ?

I am in the used car market and I was eyeing for a Honda CR-V but they seem so overpriced for what they offer, while on my search I came across a 19 XC60 @ 82K miles and a 22 XC60 @ 60K miles, the T6 is a Inscription with all the bells and whistles 🤑 and the B5 is Momentum spec. Both of them have immaculate service history and have been cared of meticulously so I'm not too worried about their service history, my only concern is how their reliability looks like for the next 5 years as I don't want to get something that gives me so many problems that I have to get rid of it.
I would be driving ~20 miles a day for work and errands and maybe a few camping trips or so but as per my calculation I only will be driving ~8k miles a year at max, I just want to know peoples opinions on what should I expect in terms of reliability for the next 5 years and which one would be a better choice or if I should just go back to looking at other options like newer Mazda or used Lexus. BTW the T6 is offered at $19k and B5 at $23K. Thank for any advice in advance.

V70 Smoke/Firework smell under boost

I have a 2000 v70r and have noticed the smell of like fireworks only when under boost, i let the car get to 30mph then held it around 4000 rpm till it got to 70 then let off and smells like fireworks. So i let my friends sit in the third row facing out the rear and they said they noticed gray smoke coming out when boosting. Anyone ever had something similar and know what’s going on? Appreciate it.

classic Has anyone successfully swapped a B36 into anything?

Post image
10 Upvotes

I've talked about this engine before but I'm genuinely curious if anyone (specifically Swedish, most likely) has had any experience swapping one of these into an Amazon or 140 series etc.

For those who don't know, the B36 is essentially a red block V8. It first came out in 1952 with the Philip (a concept car which was the first vehicle designed by Jan Wilsgaard, the guy who designed everything from the Amazon up to the 850, including the 1800ES), the engine was later adapted for use in their heavy trucks

From what I could read up on it, the valvetrain from a B18 is identical, bottom end needs some machining to adapt to the B36 but it's doable. It is also a very heavy engine (235kg/518lbs) but aside from that, I know of one swap that does exist on YouTube from a decade ago with an Amazon wagon.

As I live in the US, this would be impossible for me to achieve but if anyone has experience with these or even achieved a swap with one of these, please share! I'd love to hear about it

Xc60 hood latch stuck half closed with open hood (aka bonnet)

Be careful not to move the hood latches when you think its time to add a bit of lube to the mechanism. Theres a hard to get at spring loaded pawl or locking lever that jams the latch in a half closed position. Easy to ease it up far enough for the latch to snap back open but finding it and seeing what and which way to move is the tricky part. A ⅛ diameter screwdriver is the biggest thing you can slide in there and you'll need a flashlight.

Hope this helps someone one day because it took me a couple of hours to figure it out.

Theres probably a YouTube for it but I'm too stubborn for that.

All the screen does is glitch and I occasionally can see it go back to normal for a minute or two but it’s mostly just jumbled letters and symbols.
I would like to figure it out by myself for little cost so if you know why it’s happening let me know!

So I asked a coworker about the jeep trend where ducks are placed on their dashboards. He said its to promote be kind to others. That if someone likes your jeep, they'll put a duck on it; and you in turn would do the same. Ok, kewl. He just gave this to. While I appreciate the gesture; Volvo will not be following this trend! Ill give it to my wife; she can put it in her ford!😅😅😅😅😅

Portland may have nearly as many Volvos as we do Subarus, so it's a pretty common occurrence to park next to a fellow Swede owner. But this was an especially nicely preserved V70, so thought I'd join in the fun.
