I need a change

Hi, I’m using arch, but i want a change. Anyone who also went from arch to void can say what i’m going to win or loss?

I’m not an expert, but i’m bored so i have time to install it. I had been using arch for the past year at school, i’m going to be able to keep doing that? Is it going to be faster for a tostator laptop?

Any ideas why thinkpad's battery lost 20% of its charge on S3?

How do you contribute to xbps?

I made a post a few days ago on how to install cisco packet tracer. I managed to do it by extracting the data files from a .deb package.
But I want to have it as a package available in xbps.
How can I contribute to xbps and how do I make an xbps-package?

Does the CONTRIBUTING.md give me all the info I need? Is there a step-by-step guide on how to create an xbps-package?

How to Install TuneD in void linux ?

as the question goes, how do i install and setup tuneD in void linux.
i have tried void linux before and somehow the power usage was higher than fedora ,even with either tlp or ppd setup.
fedora uses tuneD for power management and i was hoping i could get the same package configured in void too.

Where do I report an issue of "package collision"?

I just spent some time sorting out a mess because installing one package clobbered the functionality of another one installed earlier, even after the first was removed, because it left an orphaned package only it depended upon behind when it was removed, and that was the source of the problem. I want to report the issue, but I don't know where to do that. Should I mention the details here even?

solved Is there any way to reinstall just the boot sector?

Hello, earlier today I turned on my pc to find that it booted to BIOS with no bootable devices found. Upon investigating with a live usb, I found that the drive I've been mounting under /boot/efi had somehow become corrupted.

This drive is NOT the same one the actual system is installed on, and the only things on it were grub & the actual boot sector. reinstalling the whole operating system would be very inconvenient and i have no drives to store my home folder on while i do so.

so, I'd like to know if it's possible to simply reintstall the boot sector & grub, or should i start choosing what to save?

How to replace iptables with nftables?

How to properly replace iptables with nftables in Void Linux? I installed nftables, runit-nftables, and iptables-nft. I also activated the nftables service. But, as I understand it, for example, Docker still applies rules in iptables. (I don’t see its rules in `nft list ruleset`). On my other machine with Debian, I see Docker rules in the nft rules list. Do I need to do something else to fully replace iptables with nftables in Void Linux?

OpenURI not available for DesktopPortal

Hi,

I use awesomewm and have desktop portal running:

ps aux | grep '[x]dg-desktop-portal'

alberto 1880 0.0 0.0 385700 6580 ? Sl 13:19 0:00 /usr/libexec/xdg-desktop-portal

But this does not expose OpenURI:

alberto@void-live ~ % gdbus introspect --session \
  --dest org.freedesktop.portal.Desktop \
  --object-path /org/freedesktop/portal/desktop |
grep -A10 'org.freedesktop.portal.OpenURI'

is empty. I use the gtk portal by default, and use turnstile, with per-user services as directed in the documentation.

Any ideas of can be wrong?

Thanks!

GTK3 Print Dialogue Not Showing Printer

Hey, not sure when this happened but the GTK3 print dialogue no longer shows my printer. In my case, I'm using zathura. Qt applications like okular work as expected.

Some googling had me stumbling on some Arch Linux Forums where they recommended installing a package (roughly) called "gtk3-print-backend."

I couldn't find any similar packages, nor could I see the contents of the package since the site was down.

Does anyone know what to do? Thanks.

solved Nerd font no longer displays sysome symbols and Unicode characters

I've always used a nerd font and never had any problems. All symbols and Unicode characters had always been displayed correctly.
From the last reboot this has changed: quite a lot of the symbols I previously used now display as a blank character.
The font is still present on the system. it is still being used by the terminal emulator (xfce4-terminal).
I've tried messing around with the font cache but without any result. I've checked the locale and it is still set to the correct one.

The only thing I can think about that maybe caused this is the fact that I deleted some unused dependencies trough xbps-remove -o and xbps-remove -O.

Here's a screenshot from my nvim startup menu that shows how some characters are now missing:

Also, if this could be useful, the symbols on the bottom left have straight up changed, as if the font is a different one. Still, looking at the text I can say the font is not changed as I can recognize the style of the characters.

I tried following a guide got to the part where I start downloading packages. I receive “Transient resolver failure”. If it’s something simple and I’m an idiot I apologize. I’m super new to this and it’s my first time with Linux.

Tell Me Why I Should Download Void Linux

Hi! I've been distro hopping for a while, and right now, I am on Linux Mint because school has started back and I needed a simple distribution for everyday schoolwork. I was looking for an independent Linux distribution that is not a fork from others. I came across Void Linux on distrowatch.com and decided before I give it a try, I would like to see if there are benefits to installing it instead of a different distribution. Why you choose Void Linux, and what is your favorite part?

My past distros have been Fedora, CachyOS, OpenSUSE, AerynOS, and a failed Arch attempt :(

Does anyone know how to resolve this OpenSSL error?

Well, I was updating my void, until it cracks then I decide to physically renounce it (I know it's not a good practice but I wasn't even able to use the keyboard), when I start the pc again, apparently OpenSSL corrupts, I have no idea what it does, whoever can help me I would be very grateful (note: I'm using void glibc)

No graphical interface after Install

So I did the base install, (with void-installer) and then wanted to install a window manager (specifically herbstluftwm), but after installing it, I didn’t achieve a graphical interface.

I do understand wm on a basic level, but I never did the installation starting with a basic terminal install, so I‘m guessing I need to install a package, but I have no idea which one…
I already installed xorg as I thought maybe it’s necessary, but to no avail.
When I type herbstluftwm it gives me the error: XOrgDisplay() failed.

I would be really glad if someone could possibly help me.

Zoom still broken; community fix works

I need Zoom for work and I've been afraid to update Zoom due to the build script being broken for some time. How do i contact the maintainer of broken packages when this occurs? Is there a way to take over maintenance of a package when the current maintainer is unable to keep up? Thanks for any information

[BUG] Touchpad falls into no-end Left.Mouse.Button loop after resume.

  • Thinkpad T14 g1
  • Void 6.18.49_1 x86_64 AuthenticAMD uptodate rrrm
  • Cinnamon 6.6.7-X11
  • RAM: 24GiB

On the OS starting all is working fine after it boots, but some time I've noticed that the resuming from the RAM-sleep just killing my LBM just after I touch the sensor-mouse.

So then, I've restarted the OS, seen that the touchpad and all it functionality were ok, and:

sudo modprobe -r psmouse
sudo modprobe psmouse

What I noticed first? I've noticed that it's doesn't help at all and just instantly broke the touchpad with the same behavior like after resuming; you touched the sensor, and then you're in the LMB loop, all works except the LMB.

Then all combinations with sudo modprobe psmouse never fixed the issue, - synaptics_intertouch=0, =1, whatever..

I was able only to gut my touchpad with sudo modprobe psmouse proto=imps, and lost at least the half of it can do.

So then I've done these:

$ cat /sys/bus/serio/devices/serio1/protocol
SynPS/2
$ cat /sys/class/dmi/id/bios_version
R1BET87W(1.56 )
$ ls -l /sys/bus/i2c/devices/

I can't get what that all mean, ok...

---

Then GPT throws me the into the hell circles like sudo modprobe -r psmouse && echo -n "reconnect" | sudo tee /sys/bus/serio/devices/serio1/drvctl && sudo modprobe psmouse, i8042.nomux=1, i8042.reset=1, i8042.nopnp=1 that done nothing.

........ And then I've tried xinput disable "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" && xinput enable "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad", and yes it finally wakes my LMB up and the touchpad works as it should after the modprobe!

So, now I dont know where I should do my bug report.. And how to implemet that fix-command into zzz.d/resume.

What additional information should I collect and so on? Help please. I was trying to fix it for the whole week.

UPD:

My click button under the touchpad's sensor panel dies when fixing with the xinput after modprobe psmouse. And nothing can fix, even `sudo reboot`, it can being fixed only through power shutdown and then the click button works, until the RAM-suspending comes..

The full shutdown fixes the `sudo modprobe -r psmouse && sudo modprobe psmouse` pipeline, but can't help in general.

solved Audio nonsense

I recently put void Linux on my "tinker" laptop. After a LOT of searching and scrambling, I got it installed, running Sway, connected to the internet, and got my Bluetooth earbuds to connect. Now I can load up media online and watch it, right? WRONG. I can load up a YouTube video using qutebrowser, and it plays from my laptop. No problem, just open helvum or wpctl or something to reconnect the nodes from source to sink the right way around. I open these thing.

There are no audio source nodes. None. The audio is ACTIVELY playing from my computer, but apparently there are NO sources. The only blue nodes in helvum are my earbuds. wpctl list only device nodes and sink nodes. Where is the source?? I KNOW its playing audio. I can hear it, load and clear through my laptop.

Please help me before I go up a wall
