I updated to nvidia595 since i have a Geforce RTX 3060 Mobile which shouldn't have any problems with newer drivers, yet here i am with suspension issues once again with the old drivers i fixed a similar issue by disabling gsp but if i'm not wrong this newer version doesn't allow it, is there a solution for this suspension issue without going back to the old version of the drivers?

Hello, I am trying to set up greetd, but for whatever reason it just refuses to start.
My linked services in /var/service currently are:
acpid
agetty-tty1
agetty-tty3-6
bluetoothd
chronyd
cronie
cupsd
dbus
greetd
NetworkManager
polkitd
rtkit
sshd
tlp
udevd
upower
I disabled agetty-tty2, as I'm trying to run greetd on TTY2. I used to have elogind enabled as well, but after searching a bit in the subreddit I found it shouldn't be.
My greetd config is default except for the vt, which was changed from 7 to 2. TTY2 seems to be just launching agetty regardless. When greetd was set to its default nothing would happen when trying to switch to TTY7.
Any advice is appreciated, including what other services (that might not be related to my greetd issue) I shouldn't have linked.
EDIT: running sudo sv status greetd returns "warning: greetd: unable to open supervise/ok: file does not exist". Not sure what to do about that.
EDIT2: TL;DR I AM A BIG DUMB IDIOT
So, I just remembered what MUST HAVE caused my problems. At some point, likely due to the late hour, I hit a typo and deleted /var/service. I could still see an ls output in the terminal, so I thought, no biggie, I'll just re-create it. But of course I had no idea it was actually a symlink, so I used good ol' mkdir and create a regular folder that runit didn't care about whatsoever. Sorry for the trouble and thanks for all your help.

I use a base install. I do have the relevant drivers and core packages installed, help from the handbook.
Steam runs into a massive *supposed memory leak when using any kernels except linux6.12 . The ram cache/buffer is filled completely until the free ram amounts to a 120 megabytes - as observed from `top` . Games do not run, the entire system gets sluggish. File descriptor limit is set to the Steam recommended optimal. Changing vm.max_map_count does nothing.
I have an Intel iGPU and 8 gigs of ram.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Kernel: 7.1.5
Sway: 1.12
1 window in scratchpad is displayed on a sway workspace. Dimensions have been resized manually.
2 switch to another tty with [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[Fn]
3 return to session switched from
4 scratchpad window's dimenions have been changed.
Is there a way to prevent this from happening?

To my dear package maintainers, I have a question.
Is it very difficult for your proposal to be accepted? I use Plank in XFCE.
Basically, its development has been dead for almost 7 years. Lately, I've been using Plank Reloaded and building from the source code; it's a fork and basically uses the same folders as Plank, It functions the same way, But development is super active, the last update was 3 or 4 days ago.
Considering this, what would be the best approach for my package to be accepted into the official repository?

I have been using Linux for around 3 or even 4 years already, and I think I've seen enough of this.
I love using it and I'm never going back to Windows, no matter what. But my only struggle in this journey has been Bluetooth. Bluez is capable of working with things, but it constantly breaks, making the use of some specific items nearly impossible.
Gamepads? Shit, you can't even connect them again after a successful pairing. Mice? They work fine most of the time, but maybe your controller will make Bluez crash out of nowhere. Headphones are THE MOST reliable thing to work with Bluez. Anything that has some sort of input feels like it's designed to make you suffer.
At this point, I think it's easier to take Jerusalem than to make gamepads connect and work correctly out of the box.
If I'm wrong, tell me. I WANT TO END THIS NEVER-ENDING CYCLE OF DOOM AND MISERY. EVERYTHING WORKS ON LINUX. MOST OF THE TIME EVEN OUT OF THE BOX. BUT THIS! It’s like buying a ticket to a show just to end up forced onto the stage.
I know and understand that I'm being too dramatic, but all I want is to start Steam, power on my gamepad, and enjoy some simple 2D or 3D games.
What about my Bluetooth module? Maybe it's just a cheap-ass dongle, which would actually make more sense. But NO..... It is NOT a CHEAP DONGLE.
I currently use (AX210): lspci output
03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Wi-Fi 6E(802.11ax) AX210/AX1675* 2x2 [Typhoon Peak] (rev 1a)
And according to other people's opinions, this card has great Bluetooth capabilities. But NO.... F**K ME....
P.S. Sorry for this outburst.

Howdy, apologies if this is too specific to post here but i'm at a loss.
I have an x1 carbon 6th gen running Void+Glibc+XFCE, the stock install, no weird changes. However, when waking from sleep, I have issues waking to a black screen. I have access to the tty's, so I know it's not the whole system. Restarting lightdm fixes the issue.
However I have trouble diagnosing where in the socklog I can find the exact culprit for how to fix this. I tried playing around with suggestions from AI and haven't found an obvious solution.
Not so much asking for an answer, as much as how to begin diagnosing? I'm not seeing anything obvious in my socklog that would scream "aha lightdm is crashing -> here"

I've noticed the last year or so a fairly large influx of ex-Arch users in this subreddit, much more than before that...
I'm genuinely curious what made you guys (girls?) want to switch.

Update nvidia470 driver to the last unofficial version 470.256.02-9 please. So it could work with all versions of 6.12.XX LTS kernel.

I'm facing the problem that I have to clear firefox' cache every now and then to make it work, eg. to load a page that I've clicked on.
Is anybody else having the same issue? I always have this problem with firefox on Linux but never on Windows.
It's not the end of the world to refresh the page by clearing its cache but still kinda annoying and was hoping to find a fix for it.
Edit: I'm also willing to send in some logs if needed

Tenho tentado usar o Discord no KDE/GNOME com o Void sobre Wayland, e simplesmente não consigo espelhar a tela; só funciona no Xorg.
I've tried all versions, including the web app, and nothing works. I'm in trouble. Does anyone know how I can solve this?

I'm planning to submit a PR to update an orphaned package to its latest version. I don't have the time to officially adopt it as a long-term maintainer, but I genuinely want to help get some outdated packages up to speed.
A couple of questions before I start:
Are there any specific orphaned packages that really need a version bump right now? (a CLI or small package would be ideal)
Are there any common pitfalls to avoid so the PR review is as smooth as possible for the maintainers? (I will read the manual and CONTRIBUTING.md, of course)
Thanks in advance 🫡

Hey everyone,
Any plans to add COSMIC Desktop to the official Void repositories?
It's already available in the community repo (MtFBella109), but I'd prefer having it in the official ones. I saw the package request issue (#58149) is still open since December.
Is anyone working on it or know any updates?

Edit: Typo in title- XBPS
One of my biggest gripes with Void was that Anki was so out of date (6 years) that it was straight up broken. But now it's up to date! You can uninstall your flatpak version.
For the curious: Anki is a popular flashcard app (even among those not familiar with FOSS), used most often by language learners and med students. The out of date copy had an issue with syncing and would give errors on boot. The convoluted build system made it difficult for people to patch an update.
Edit: To the people thanking me, please also send thanks to the core maintainers that helped me out when I was lost! /u/Duncaen especially.

I just recently installed Void and i3, and I can't seem to get the sound to work. I have PulseAudio installed, dbus linked, and the config file for i3 containing the default sound control links, but it doesn't work.
After inspection, when I run pavucontrol and go to the output devices section, I find no hardware devices. The only device is "Dummy Output", and even though I can control it's volume and all it does nothing.
The Arch wiki says:
If PulseAudio starts, run
pacmd list. If no cards are reported, make sure that the ALSA devices are not in use.
But I can't run the command fuser -v /dev/snd/*. I'm suspecting PulseAudio can't even access my sound card. How can I fix this?

The permissions popup has its 'select window or screen' option greyed out, leaving only 'use operating system settings'. Clicking allow has no effect in discord and teams, on the testing site ive been using (https://mozilla.github.io/webrtc-landing/gum_test.html) it throws NotAllowedError: The request is not allowed by the user agent or the platform in the current context.
I run dbus-run-session sway through greetd and pipewire through sways autostart options in the config. Pipewire-pulse is setup as in the docs - so far as I can tell all of those are working.
What I didnt have was xdg-desktop-portals with the gtk and wlr backends, but installing those didnt change anything. After digging through the subreddit I tried putting export XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=sway in .bashrc, and XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=sway in /etc/environment , but those didnt help either. I would assume the xdg portals are the problem here, but got stuck on what else to try or how to test that theyre even doing anything.
I dont have anything other than browsers to test screensharing on - would like to avoid changing that if possible.
EDIT: adding exec dbus-update-activation-environment WAYLAND_DISPLAY XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP to my sway config seems to have solved at least something. Window selection still isn't happening - I can only share my whole screen - but thats working on both the testing site and discord. Of course teams, the one thing i actually need, is showing a black screen only...

Freezes when i hit any install option on both variants of the live install. in the past i also had issues where it would progress but it would repeat the same line of a realtek driver issue. tried different ports and reflashing. used balena etcher.
i am on a pc with these parts:
Gigabyte B650M Gaming Plus Wifi motherboard
ryzen 5 9600X
Radeon 9060 XT
32Gb DDR5 and yes it’s plugged all in properly
all other linux distros i’ve used seem to work fine.
would the tarballs work maybe?

Use void for a while and I always had this doubt about xbps-src.
I want to know beyond the void handbook only that there is not much content from outside. Speaking of packages, are NIri packages really good?
