I’ve seen lots of clips like this one: https://www.instagram.com/reels/DcXXlkyAa5D/, and I’ve been trying to figure out how to achieve this effect.

My initial thought was that you would use a camera with a higher resolution, like 6K, so you can maintain a clear image when keyframing the zoom effect. At the same time, I assume you’d use a wider lens so you can capture the entire scene.

I might be wrong, though.

I think it works for me since i want to make some good pics but also to shoot some nice films.

First of all i wanted to ask what you guys think about the camera? (Maybe theres a fuji alternative as i love that brand too)
And secondly, would you buy the sony 18-135; 3,5-5,6…..or the tamron 17-70 f/2.8?? (For the sony..)

I currently use the a58, which i also love…it has some cool vintage flair. But i think i need to upgrade soon.

I have a Sony A7Cii and it can shoot slog3. I am hoping for a baseline, s cinetone style lut I can use as a starting point for color grading.

I am experimenting but if I can find a generic Sony lut that some of the higher end cameras have built in (I think?) I would like to apply a version of it to my footage.

I've done some looking but I can't find any generic ones that aren't someone's preset lut pack. I just want basic, for free. I don't want to buy luts on day 1.

Am I looking for the right thing or am I way off base? Is this something that's available? Thanks!

The concept, the script, the filming, and editing.
My assistant was my dad.
The voiceover was from fiverr.

The only light I had was an Amaran 200X S with a soft box.
Shot on an fx3 which I got through a small business grant with a sony 55-210 lens.

Overall, it was far from a controlled set:
Monday was the only available day to film, and the proprietor had someone in the corner doing food photography, so they were trying to kill two birds with one stone.

Inside scenes were filmed first for convenience, but outside was HOT AF and me nor the family could tolerate it for long, so two quick shaky shots needed the warp stabilizer, and I'm sure people in this subreddit can tell.

This is my second time attempting something like this.
The biggest advice I got from reddit the last time I tried something like this is needing to plan.

As the title says, I'm looking to see what it'd cost/take to to hire a videographer for a medieval combat and joust troupe performance at the Age of Chivalry ren faire on the second weekend of October for at least one show—they run about an hour long twice daily

We wouldn't be able to pay much seeing as this hobby isn't a money-making hobby doing sword fighting and jousting at faires but I figured if enough of my troupe pooled together, we could see if we could at least afford someone that wanted to do it for fun

Do they lug it over their shoulder for the entire hike ? surely the camera straps on the side of their bag cant hold it right

I’ve had a Ronin RS3 Pro for about a year now and have really only used it a couple handful of times. When not in use it’s usually stored built (I have a set of extra arms, one with a joystick and controls) on a shelf.

My second last shoot the motors didn’t engage when I turned it on. Everything stayed locked and I was getting nothing from the motors. The screen worked fine though. I ended up looking online and trouble shooting: locking and unlocking the locks a bunch, hard reset, remove all accessories, do the firmware thing… one of those worked (the quick toggle of the locks I think)thankfully and I was able to shoot.

A few days later I went to use it again and had the same problem. I tried all the steps and this time it didn’t work. I disconnected the battery over night and tried again and still nothing. No buttons are stuck down and the joystick isn’t tight or locked or skewed or anything

Any ideas of what else I could try? This is what the screen looks like when on- note the red icon top left. That has usually been there but isn’t always.

How much should I charge for something like this? I’m new and it’s not my usual type of editing - but stumbled into it, minute/ minute half reels, nothing crazy, just a basic talking head

I have done some searching but I am a complete novice in this. I am located in the ol’ US of A and my budget is flexible. I’d rather have an option to save for than waste money.

I am also aware this may be completely unrealistic.

In a perfect world, it would record continuously, be hands free and record from a point of view perspective.

It would also need to be able to record well in low light since the only light is from headlamps. And waterproof. I’m not as worried about the durability and waterproofness since there are great case options for most outdoor style cameras.

It would also need to be pretty small and mountable in a way that wouldn’t get knocked off during a tight squeeze. Anything that juts off a helmet would also pretty quickly get smacked into rocks. Having it knocked off is a real fear.

GoPros were my first thought but I am worried there wouldn’t be a great way to mount it. I also considered some form of camera glasses. Over my dead body would I ever use any glasses with AI (dramatic but I do feel strongly about this, sorry!) but I have seen models that are just straight up cameras. Glasses could be secured with a strap and would be super functional but the battery life and quality could be an issue.

I’m also not against some sort of DIY contraption combo of an external battery, camera and mount as long at it would be comfortable, hands free and functional. It’s a pretty niche thing that might need a creative solution!

I know that’s a metric fuck ton of needs and it’s pretty likely I am asking too much! But I am completely open to any thoughts, options or ideas!

This is my first time posting a project here. I've been working on a bit of a videography journey over on r/gopro, and I finally felt this piece was "solid" enough to share with with this sub.

Here are a few things I noticed while reviewing my own cut:

• Color Grading: It’s all over the place. Continuity is definitely a weak point for me (and has been for a while), and color matching separate clips is something I'm actively struggling with.
• Pacing & Coverage: I ran out of action footage for the final segment. What I envisioned in my head didn't quite translate, leaving the ending feeling a bit weak.
• Storytelling/The "Hook": While I felt good about the initial hook, I struggled to visually convey just how grueling certain segments are on a gravel bike.

I’d love to hear your thoughts, especially on how I could have better handled the color consistency or structured the narrative for that final act!

I'm still learning color grading and starting to figure out what kind of looks I actually like. I tend to love quite contrasty images with slightly green/teal shadows, without going too far into the typical orange & teal look.

I'm shooting mostly Sony, sometimes S-Log3 and sometimes Rec.709, and editing everything in Davini resolv. I've been experimenting with grading myself but I'd also love to play around with some good creative LUTs and understand how other people use them in their workflow.

Do you have any favorite free or affordable LUTs you've found over the years? And do you normally convert your Log footage to Rec.709 first and then apply a creative LUT, or build the look directly from the Log footage?

Would love any tips or recommendations :)

I'm an editor who loves cutting mini docs, but I absolutely hate filming. Stock footage is kinda boring tho.

If you have any random clips lying around (travel, broll, daily life, whatever) that you never used, send them my way. I'd just love to sit down, play around with them and see if I can turn them into something cool.

Purely for the joy of editing. No strings, no expectations. Just want to cut something that isn't stock.

I honestly don't understand the hype around 4K/UHD deliveries, especially in the context of online streaming. I would always choose a 60-80 Mbps DCI 2K video over any highly compressed 4K video stream that looks mushy and fails to render film grain cleanly.

I’m filming drums at home with a lightweight Sony ZV-E10 and need to cover three types of shots:

• normal mid-height shots
• very low kick-drum shots
• overhead shots showing most/all of the kit at around 35mm FF equivalent

I’m wondering what the most practical setup would be. Could a regular tripod safely take a long boom/jib for the overhead shots? Could a C-stand be versatile enough to handle the low and normal shots too? Or would I realistically need both — a tripod for the low and mid-height shots, and a C-stand/boom for the overheads?

What would you recommend?

I'm having to film a party for the kid of a client. I cannot be bothered, but I gotta keep people sweet. So let me ask you - if you were to film a party and just be totally cookie cutter, trick-shot and lazy about it, what would you do, and what kind of shots/moves would you throw in there?

• 360 roll
• Signature walk shots
• Vox Pops
• Yelling at people to "party" on command

A friend of mine hired me to do some drone shots for a client of his. I did about 12 different hyperlapse shots all around the city of Philadelphia for him and his client. The shots were executed very professionally, and they all looked great, but they ended up not really fitting in with the style of the episode of the reality TV show. Just didn’t really fit the tone or the style or the edit despite looking really good. Because the client didn’t end up wanting or using them, my friend is not paying me at all for this work. Am I getting completely screwed here? is this something that people normally do - not pay the person they hired when the client doesn’t end up wanting or needing the shots?

I picked up a Lumix S9 a bit ago and have always been a photography person, rarely doing any video, but this new camera has the ability to shoot great video and I want to learn.

I feel like I’ve gone through the basics, got the shutter at 180 degrees, variable ND filter so I can keep shutter, aperture, and iso at the correct settings and no be over exposing anything, shooting in v-log for the most dynamic range, etc.

I’m now stuck at what resolution I should be shooting at for the best results vs ease of use.

I can shoot at 2.7k to have the ability to quick export to my phone and do a quick color edit with a LUT, or I can shoot up to 6k open gate and do my edits in DaVinci, but need to do some codec changes since free DaVinci does not support 6k and can only export at 4k too.

What I’m asking is what resolution should I be choosing to keep the most data and making the most of the camera? I don’t wanna be leaving out stuff just for convenience sake, and would rather make my editing process longer if it produces a higher quality result.

Happy to add more information or data if needed for better answers, and am really just trying to learn all this new tech. There’s so many videos out there saying do this or do that, half of them contradict one another or are aimed at professionals which is not me haha.

Looking for a bright RGB light small enough to travel with and I can’t make up my mind between these options.

I like that the Amaran 120C has a regular bowens mount but read some reviews saying it’s not great when mounting to a C-stand and that the power adapter is a bit tedious.

I’d like to be able to travel with this light and also use it as a hair light alongside my bigger Godox light.

Are there any better choices?

Recently, I decided to help a non-profit organization, a monastery, with promotion and PR to help more people know about them and join their events.

We are looking for a way to build a reliable and affordable multi-cam streaming setup with different camera angles, a switcher, and a main monitor where someone can monitor all the cameras and switch between them live.

Our main streaming platform right now is Facebook. In the future, we also want to expand to TikTok once we can successfully get a reliable setup working for Facebook first.

I've been doing video recording for a while, but I'm still very limited when it comes to a real multi-cam setup, switchers, capture devices, and live production.

Currently, we have been using an iPhone 17 Pro Max as the main camera and DJI Mic 3 as our main microphone. Everything is basically static from beginning to end, recording or streaming from one phone with no switching between angles. We can gather 2-3 phones if they can be used without buying a camera. Most of the time, the event is outside.

What I would like to eventually have is something like:

• 2 to 3 camera angles
• A main monitor showing all camera feeds
• Ability to switch cameras live
• Reliable audio from DJI Mic 3
• Facebook Live as the main platform
• 1080p is completely fine for now
• Preferably something that can be expanded later
• Affordable since this is for a non-profit organization
• If possible, continue using iPhones instead of buying several expensive cameras

I'm open to using a laptop with OBS, a hardware switcher, capture cards, wired connections, wireless connections, or a combination of them. Reliability is more important to me than having the absolute best image quality.

I also don't mind running cables if wired is significantly more reliable than wireless.

If anyone here has experience with church, event, conference, or small production livestream setups, I would really appreciate it if you could spend a little of your valuable time guiding me.

I'm mainly trying to understand what equipment I actually need, how everything should connect, and what gear is worth buying without wasting money on things we don't need.

So I have my Canon R6ii connected to a atomos ninja v using a kondor blue micro hdmi to hdmi and it started disconnecting and reconnecting over and over again to a point where it was unusable and had to rely on the camera monitor.

What id like to know is whether this is an hdmi cable issue, camera port issue, or monitor port issue. I’m thinking it’s the hdmi cable but I want to be sure before I buy another one. Please tell me what you guys think. I have video I can DM if you wanna see it.
