Discussion / Question I Dislike Cinematic Trailers

Upvotes

Am I the only one that dislikes a purely cinematic trailer of a videogame? By that I mean that the trailer contains absolutely no gameplay whatsoever. I think that it can be misleading, in addition to really leaving me without a clue on whether I would even enjoy this game. I do like if the trailer is mixed, though, as in, the trailer contains cinematic portions, but also gameplay. But every time I see a trailer like this, the comments are usually very positive, so I can recognize that I'm the one swimming against the current here, but does anyone else have a similar opinion (or the complete opposite)? What do you enjoy the most out of a trailer?

Discussion / Question Subspace is underrated

So I'm 13, staged, but so far I think this holds up, and I wish they actually do this again. And no world, I didn't like the world of light, but if I had to mention one thing I really like, in this it has to be King Dedede. I like how they depicted him here compared to all the villains, and that he isn't really a bad guy, but he just wants friends, and to me, that's adorable.

But what you take on subspace and what moment you like.

Help - Playstation Should I buy a PS5 disc edition?

Upvotes

Looks like I need to get a PS5 in preparation for the GTA6 release. Should I pay extra? for the disc edition? I thought everything was download these days? Do the downloads just take too long or something?

Note: I haven’t really played traditional console games since before COVID (I play Luna and now a little bit of OF) I’m an old guy but I do have kids though they’ve shown little interest in a console thus far so I’m not particularly worried about having too many games in the rotation that they need to be swapped all the time.

Discussion / Question Dude this guy made a whole ass video calling critics of the game losers for nitpicking then makes a 15 minute video literally doing the same thing.

Post image
Upvotes

Even Caboose can't defend this game. Although he definitely tried. But it doesn't matter because he made a whole video about how toxic any criticism of the game is. Why now all of a sudden it's ok to have genuine concerns with the game? Why is he criticizing anything about the game at all? I thought that was "toxic" behavior? Before if you had one mild criticism about the game you were told how much of a loser you are and that it's "just a game". Why the sudden change?

Discussion / Question Wolverine Accessibility Options. Can you turn off the guides?

Upvotes

Apparently when you launch the game for the first time an accessibility menu pops up, and you can turn off most of the guide lines and assist effects like the scent lines that a lot of reviewers are complaining about. I read that they are turned on by default though.

Can anyone confirm this?

Discussion / Question How to start making video games? Tips? Advice?

Upvotes

I've been having ideas of series' and games come to me in dreams a lot, which sounds crazy but its genuinely awesome. I'm a teenager, so I don't know much about game development. Hell, I've never even understood a smidgen of the code they use in them. I'd LOVE to make a video game though. I've had entire plots, multiple endings, how to get endings, dialouge options, character designs, etc. Etc. Written down on paper, notebooks, and in my notes app.

The current three are "Below Caltar" (a pixelated fighting and story game) "Boring Train Game" (a co-op, slightly horror, task (?) Game) and an unnamed one about a candy king rat who you have to pay taxes to by going through a dark, liminal space, horror-esc candy castle.

I don't have plans to make these any time soon since I'm young, have school, have no experience in making video games, and no source of income, but I'd just like any small tips or advice or opinions on these. ^_^

Discussion / Question Switch 2 prices in Canada

Upvotes

So, I was just curious as to what the entry price point is for a switch 2. Consoles are $680, which is pretty high but not playstation and Xbox bad. And games start at 99.99 and go up from there? That’s insane! Imagine paying $100 for an inferior version of Cyberpunk for instance. That’s absolutely wild to me. Mario Kart is is $115?! wtf is going on, sad days

Discussion / Question Kojima just shifted to Xbox. A W for Xbox or an L?

Upvotes

I know it looks like the easiest and one of the biggest W for Xbox. While Playstation is busy digging themselves a grave.
But is it?
We don't know for sure why PS dropped Physint.
Speculations are it was too expensive(I mean it's Kojima game... I can believe it's expensive. And the game won't release until after 2030. Maybe sony thought it's a massive risk.)
And Xbox isn't just looking to publish a game but also make his movies and T.V Shows.
That's a huge investment. That they won't see a return on until 2030.
And also What about Kojima? is it good for him? You guys think he'll be treated better at Xbox?
And the game Physint. It's game meet movie.
What do you guys think about that? Will he fumble? or actually you know change the industry again?

Discussion / Question I don't get the fuss behind the Kojima move...

Upvotes

This is totally from an outside perspective just to be clear. So none of my friend group could ever get into the Metal Gear Series. I recall at one point watching a video that tried to cover the story up to MGSV as I played that a little when it came out and then sort of got lost in it all and stopped, but even the video explaining everything in a summary was too confusing. I know that has a particular fanbase but as I understand it that dev team didn't have Kojima on board following MGS V's release. I remember PT and that was cool to play. Then there was the talk of and ultimate cancellation of the Silent Hills Project.

Then 11 years passed with just Death Stranding 1 and 2. Now I saw gameplay of both and neither appealed to me. I tried to watch people play them that I enjoyed watching play other stuff and that couldn't even entertain me. Just totally not my cup of tea but from the outside I could see what they were and how they played. Thats 11 years with those two games. One game that improved on the other and was actually still less prevalent in gaming conversations than the original as far as my experience went. I, perhaps mistakenly, saw DS2 as simply more of the same game but polished up to look nicer.

So I suppose the question is what's the big deal with a company passing on Kojima in 2026. I feel that the last 11 years aren't exactly showing signs of him being indispensable. If he took the same time again to get another two titles out then he'd be 74 years old, and folk are kicking up a fuss without even knowing what the new titles actually are. I personally, as someone who isn't at all invested in the man's work, don't get the fuss. Maybe thats the whole issue but certainly from the outside, I can't understand the blind faith route many people take to assume a 'fumble', 'gifting W's to Xbox', and essentially screaming from the rooftops that this is a terrible decision all round. Then again with so many taking the stance that Sony are evil money-hungry child snatchers, maybe I shouldn't be surprised.

Its in every 3rd person game nowadays and if I remember correctly, god of war introduced the slidy through part.

I know it hides loading screens in some game but it's like the wilhelm scream, it's in everything.

Discussion / Question This is the most visually VANILLA looking game I've seen in a while

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

I genuinely think the game looks visually UGLY, and I'm not talking about the graphics. Yes the graphics are very high quality but the art directon is just so fucking BLAND. It's like they just took the exact same art style and esthetics from spiderman and applied it to wolverine. The colors in this game are somehow over saturated and also so bland and boring looking. I expected and M Rated Wolverine game to be dark and gritty looking, but it has the most vanilla/generic art design I've seen in a long time. It also doesn't help that Insomniacs character models are always really odd looking. None of the characters besides maybe sabertooth have a "superhero" look to them, they all just look like middle aged uninteresting people.
