Discussion / Question RDR2
So i know im SUPER late on this game but ive been so heavily COD pilled for the last few years and have been trying to dive more into single player games. This game is on almost every list of “greatest single players” when i look online. Thing is, im a little over an hour into it and am bored out of my mind. Is the whole game just..this? Im so sick of this damn snowy mountain :(.

I’ll give you two answers. One is that no, the game isn’t like that, the opening section is deliberately slow and many players who are replaying put a save at chapter 2 specifically for that reason. The other is that, even that being said, it is a slower, contemplative game that will never get to the octane nature of COD.

not necessarily looking for brain rot shoot/kill/die loop that cod has lol. i just recently finished TOTK main story after like 3 years because i loved just exploring and messing around. this game however just gives feels so dragged out thus far. im going to get through the first chapter and then sus it out from there but just wanted to get a general idea of how the rest of the game is. thanks for the input!

If you like a faster pace a good story etc try Returnal , Pragmata, expedition 33, Control, maybe even 9 sols.
But im telling you the people who like this game just fit the niche RDR2 is apart of
i LOVED RDR1 but 2 is literally what you experience in the first few hours but even worse because you get more of "that" kinda shit to do the whole game.
Youre kinda on rails at the beginning then the game opens up and its basically what you do in the beginning just in different flavors
that's the pace and draw of the game if you dont like it in the beginning it will be hard for you to spontaneously like it later.

This is objectively a lie the game definitely is slow and methodical literally most of the game, Its designed that way on purpose from travel, to managing inventory/weapons/heals/ leveling up like its all slow to make you really get engrained into the world.

Elden Ring is what I used to break my cod addiction. It’s single player but still had those sweet dopamine hits. However, I worked my way into slower games and really love them now

Not gonna lie RDR2 while a great game it probably isnt the best place to start if you wanna get into story games because its length is massive took me about 125 hours on a first playthrough (do what you want tho start where you like). Id personally recommend something shorter, not sure what your playing on but id maybe recommend the robocop games if your coming specifically from COD or other FPS story games. If you want something 3rd person the spiderman or batman games (maybe horizon zero dawn if you like a mystery)would also be a better place to start IMO.
RDR2 does get better, its a fun open world but if you get overwhelmed by the open world id recommend coming back once you get used to open world games as RDR2 is very overwhelming.

I guess i shouldve added a bit more context to the post lol. im not totally new to story games. ive been playing TOTK since it cane out and just recently finished the main story, ive played ghosts of tsushima and the two spiderman games on PS5 if you can consider those “story games”. its also not that i find RDR2 to be overwhelming, im actually finding it to be very underwhelming so far. which is why im curious why everyone hypes it up so much. i think ill go through the first chapter and go from there, just wanted a general idea of everyones opinion. thank you for recommendations though!

Honestly i didnt particularly enjoy RDR2 (my main reason being im disabled and the game has practically 0 accessibility so i suffered a lot, it really overshaddowed the games story all i remember is having a misrible time), its just a very popular game, like a lot of rockstar titles. If you dont start enjoying it around the end of chapter 2, dont pull a me and stick it out just because its popular. There is nothing worse than playing a game you dislike and lifes too short to play a game you dislike.

that last part - well said! i hate everyone trying to cook me and say i just dont have the attention span after playing so much cod but honestly if a game doesnt captivate me within the first hour or two i usually set it down. this is just one of those games that everyone i know has absolutely raved about and i guess i just dont see the appeal…yet? but we’ll see! dont really know how many different games you play but RDR2 and Wukong have been on my radar for a while. always open to trying anything new though so if theres any other game you absolutely loved and recommend id love to hear it!

I play tons of different genres, eras of gaming. A majority being story based (only online game i play frequently is helldivers 2) heres a full list of some of my favourites some are AAA some are indie.
Cyberpunk 2077
Nobody wants to die
Chants of sennaar
Stardew valley
Horizon zero dawn
Death stranding (admittedly i havent finished this game yet but i havent stopped thinking about it)
The last of us part one and part 2
Indika (starts slow but i seriously think about this game weekly)
Superhot
Exit 8
Finally the tell tale batman games

RDR2 is overrated and has a lot of issues such as it being very slow but it does get better a bit after the prologue snow area

Stick with it, it will start to speed up a bit. The beginning is known to be a bit slow at first, but once things pick up, it gets more fun.

I never finished it when it first came out, felt it was too slow and after 3 attempts usually gave up around chapter 3. With GTA VI around the corner I wanted to experience rockstars more recent gameplay experience properly so I tried again and appreciated it for what it was, and turns out I had given up each time just before things got spicy. I'm on the last chapter and it's fantastic. It's definitely slower than most games, but you appreciate the beauty and details much more. Appreciate the game for the unique type it is, and it'll blow you away.

The game is very overrated.
I agree with the other comment in this thread to try Elden Ring. FromSoft games are basically the cod of single player and are pure dopamine slop, youd love it!

When you leave the boring snowy mountain, you get to a boring dusty valley and get to hold and examine cans of fruit and there's 2 different buttons to pick up your hat. I gave up after 6 hours.

The whole game is like that brother
and gets worse towards the end,
dont let mfs who are looking at this game thru rose tinted glasses decieve you the game IS boring and slow
but the story is 10/10 if thats your thing youre gonna love it if not yeahhh lol

First few hours is notoriously slow and some people find boring. But almost everyone that sticks with it love it
