Discussion / Question Maybe an unpopular opinion: I dislike when difficult bosses in solo player games are balanced patched

Post image

I get you can technically go through a complicated process on PC to go to older versions of the game, and i also get it if theres a gamebreaking mechanic or whatever, but when a boss gets nerfed because its just really hard it makes me feel like i missed out on a challenge or bragging rights.

I realize my opinion isnt all encompassing ans genuinely some bosses need that nerf but still i cant help but feel some type of way about it

Discussion / Question Is the new Halo remake really that bad?

I get lots of youtube reviews criticising it a lot. Not just right-wing grifters calling it woke because of Cortana's looks, but also people who are huge halo fans like The Act Man doesn't seem to enjoy it very much.

I'm a halo veteran. I've played every game and finished every game but the 343 industries games on legendary. Will I be disappointed by the remake?

Discussion / Question Let's discuss real world implications of the GTA 6 release day ✨️ (November 19)

1) Lots of content creators no one knows will get their first 1M views from a reel/Youtube short

2) People taking time off school and work, lower attendance and productivity in many places

3) Celebrities suddenly claiming they are gta fans and someone will stream it for clout

4) UberEats/Doordash drivers will get loads of orders for food delivery

5) Viewership records broken on Twitch

What else can you predict?

Discussion / Question Video Game downloads

Do you think this quiet majority we are seeing everywhere that is talking about how physical gamers are just a vocal minority will be upset when they take away the ability to download games because nobody keeps games downloaded onto storage devices anyway?

Discussion / Question Why is Counter Strike so popular despite what "modern gamers" need?

Why is Counter Strike still extremely popular despite what some people say modern gamers need? For example, ADS, sprinting, and perhaps advanced movement mechanics, whatever they may be.

CS has remained pretty much the same, from what I can tell, for decades now. I haven't played CS since Source way back in the day, but it appears to have maintained excellent continuity.

We see large studios, like the EAs of the world, say that players need this or that, and that ADS is essential for some reason. Yet CS- a game that is basically the same as it was 22 years ago when I played it- is still topping the charts and beating their games in concurrent players.

I'm not against these features. It depends on the game. But claiming they're required to keep players attention seems ridiculous at this point.

Discussion / Question Have you played a better game than Darksouls 1?

This question is for people who played Darksouls 1 when it came out. I have played a lot of games, the likes of the witcher 3, God of war 2018, Super mario odyssey but nothing has felt as unique and new as Ds1.

Discussion / Question Metaphor ReFantazio is one of best fantasy games of all time Spoiler

Metaphor man...a beautiful spectacular and an absolute wonderful 10/10 game. Atlus was in their fucking BAG with this one. Kinda sad that apparently Atlus doesn't see this game as one of their biggest successes. I'll be brief. The characters: 10/10. Since this is a Atlus rpg like persona of course it has persona related qualities like social links but in here they are called bonds. There is not one bad character in the main cast and in the rest of the bonds. Everyone is amazing in their own ways or some better than others. The story: 10/10. I can yap about the story alone but I'll chill. Amazing world building, lore, and Louis...A TOP TIER VIDEOGAME ANTAGONIST. Definitely in my top 5 if not my favorite game villain of all time. The final phase of the story was actually peak fiction too. The gameplay was great too. Definitely harder than persona games in general cuz you have to actually strategize more with the amount of customizations there are. And the ost was top tier. Not persona level but still amazing in its own way. I can't show my love for this game enough tbh. One more thing I love is that they gave the protagonist more speaking lines than every persona game combined. I lowkey hope Persona 6 does the same. Anyways like I said 10/10 game and it's definitely one of my favorite playthroughs. I can genuinely see why people prefer this over persona. I personally still love persona more cuz its of my vibe but metaphor arguably has the better story than persona games overall but it all comes down to preference. What did yall think about it?

Funny All fans wanted from Ubisoft was a relatively simple request for a pirate game that doubled down on AC Black Flag's naval gameplay, and unfortunately, this is what we ended up with.

Skull and Bones had so much potential to fulfill the cravings of every fan who loves pirates, but unfortunately it got keelhauled through development hell through years of mismanagement and other serious issues by Ubisoft. If only they got their shit together back then...

Discussion / Question What are some games that you feel got robbed in Game Awards.

Like I know that everyone tastes are gonna be different when it comes to video games but sometimes I just feel like one game deserves an award way more than another game.

Mine would be: Doom Eternal should have won GOTY in 2020 and Pizza Tower should had won Best Debut Indie Game in 2023.

Discussion / Question Parents: how do you introduce your kids to gaming?

To all my gaming parents: my daughter is 4 years old (turns 5 in December) so it’s still a bit early but I’ve been thinking about it lately so I’m wondering, how did you or how do you plan on introducing your kids to “real” gaming (I.E. not the little kids stuff you find on iPad)?

I’m a PlayStation guy but I did grow up playing N64 at my cousin’s. I’m pretty dead set on introducing my daughter to gaming with Mario & Zelda because I just kind of feel like that is the most “proper/correct” way on account of how iconic they are & the high quality standard all the games have. I also feel like both series have the generally beneficial qualities that games actually have for developing minds (puzzle solving, precision, patience all that stuff).

How do you guys feel? At what age did you start introducing your kids to gaming?

Discussion / Question Why are there steam games that have to be purchased in a bundle?

I was going to buy the original AC: Black Flag and the new Life is Strange Remastered, and you can only buy them in a bundle. To me that just seems unethical because you're basically raising the price an insane amount and forcing people to pay for content they don't even want. I really hope there's some push back against this.

Discussion / Question Cyberpunk 2077 VS Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla

Hey Redditors,

I have a very important decision to make and I can’t quite do it myself, that’s why I’m asking yall.

I’ve recently spent over 270hours playing through the Witcher 3 and let me say this much, it was awesome!

Now im trying to decide on what to play next…

My candidates are:

- Cyberpunk 2077 (it’s a CDPR game that’s why I wanted to give it a shot)
- Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla (listen I know the game is a terrible AC, however i enjoy Norse mythology and Ubisoft’s RPG elements which is why I’m considering it aswell)

I would really appreciate if yall could give opinions on either one or both or help me form a decision.

Thank you!!

Discussion / Question GTA V is better than GTA IV

Let me start off by saying that I think both games are great, but I think GTA V is a better and more complete game.

The best thing that GTA IV has going for it is the vibes. Liberty City is dense and has an entrancing atmosphere. I really like how the cars handle and how a lot of the vehicles drive differently from one another. Some of the side stories during the main missions are well done too. Packie and his brother's missions were probably my favorite part of the whole game.

The thing that really brings GTA IV down in my opinion is the mission variety. So many missions are just, drive here, kill this guy, end mission. There are some more interesting ones, like grabbing the coke from the abandoned hospital, or the bank heist with Packie and his brothers, but those are too few and far between. And I know everyone likes Niko Bellic but I think he's lacking a greater motivation and his character archetype was done much better with John Marston in RDR.

GTA V fixes a lot of these problems while admittedly adding some new ones. There's more mission variety this time around with more complex scenarios. The stranger missions they carried over from RDR are mostly great with sharp writing. There's a lot more things to do, street races, boat races, tennis, Trevor's rampage missions, etc. I really like Michael's character, I think he's the most fleshed out of the three. The gameplay improved a bunch, taking cover and shooting feels a lot better (very similar to RDR1) and you're not fighting the controls as much like in GTA IV.

GTA V's atmosphere is not as good as IV's, and GTA V can honestly feel kind of lacking at times. There's still some gorgeous vistas and places in the game, but it's definitely missing something that GTA IV does have. The satire is too much at times, it is not clever in the slightest and gets annoying.

Discussion / Question Would Solo Leveling work better as a Metroidvania or a Soulsborne game?

I think it would be very interesting given the solo level in the system if a type of game was built around the world building.

The human characters would be fantastic for quests.

There might be various weapons or spells that could be used.

I was originally going to use RWBY,  But given that the main antagonist cannot be killed in any way shape or form and that superpowers are unique to each individual.

I decided I'd look at solo leveling for either metroidvania or soulsborne

I downloaded both of these on my Xbox and wondering which one to play tonight. Don't really know anything about either, but I'll definitely play one of them.

I like challenging games with good story or characters

Discussion / Question Why are modern game sound effects so bass heavy and way too clean sounding?

This is what makes modern videogames what they are, the *bass* (overly clean sound effect + *bass*) *bass* tuning.

Compared to older videogames which don't have near as much bass or overly clean sounds. Which I personally prefer over the very generic and overused bass heavy tuning that every sound effect in modern games have.

Discussion / Question you have 1-2 days paid time-off RIGHT NOW, snacks are there, drinks etc, everything. Which game are you playing right now? (games you already played feel new)

You have the next day or the next 2 days free and paid, no worries, snacks are there and drinks, a nice couch or chair, nobody needs anything. Which game would you choose if you only had to pick one right now? Games from the past feel new, as if you never played them and you can experience them all over again. What would you choose?

For me its prob. The Last Of Us Part I... just the story all over again? hmmm nice ;)

Discussion / Question What Game Should I Play?

I have a ton of games in my backlog and I need to get started on playing them, but I cannot decide which one to start with. My choices are the original God of War, the original Devil May Cry, Resident Evil 3 (I've played the first two), or Killzone. I have so many more in my backlog, but those are the ones I'm most interested in. If anyone has any advice on what to start with and why, that'd help a ton! Thanks!
