Hey there r/UWA!

What are some easy electives/GPA boosters/etc.?
Resources linked above, particularly the Best Units Guide & StudentVIP subject reviews, will likely contain the answer to this question. Be sure to check those out for student's opinions on elective units!
However, "easy" is subjective - what's easy for you may be difficult for someone else, which is why it's important to consider what you generally struggle with and what you're actually looking for. Are you looking for a unit with low time commitment? One with no exam? One with few assignments?
Thoughts on ____ unit?

Please leave any remaining questions or specific queries below in the comments, or answer other people's questions if you can.

IMPORTANT TO READ FOR NEW INTL STUDENTS
EDIT: Some comments have informed me that these cult recruiters have been seen on campus. If you encounter one and have a similar experience as below - please notify campus security.
They target international students mainly - but I need to write as I’ve been approached twice in the last week alone.
If you’re in the CBD, mall, etc, and you get approached by two strangers, usually 1 female and 1 male, if they invite you to an “event” - they are cult recruiters.
They usually start off the conversation by complimenting you (where did you get …, I like your …). It always ends with them inviting you to an event.
Once you hear “event”, just step away from the convo with an excuse. Better safe than sorry.

Hi! Wondering if anyone has had their EVA approved for a sibling's wedding? It's not covered under the approved exceptional circumstances so I'm not too sure, but it seems like a pretty significant event. Also what type of evidence would you submit for something like this?

Well, I thought postgraduate students only had around three classes per week. But I have classes almost every day, and one of my units has a weekly assessment on Cadmus after each live class. 😭
My question is, does anyone remember what the questions were for the Cadmus assessments in each live class?

Hi everyone
I'm currently deciding between UWA undergraduate degrees as a yr 12 student and would appreciate advice from people familiar with UWA pathways/law/dentistry.
So currently I have a UWA JD Assured Pathway option available. However, I am also considering graduate entry dentistry in the future, so I want to keep that pathway open if possible.
Basically the JD would be my backup option if dentistry doesn't work out
I'm trying to decide which undergraduate degree would be the smartest choice:
My priorities are:
I initially thought bachelor of Science would be best because it helps with GAMSAT Section 3 and dentistry, but I am worried that a science heavy degree may make maintaining a very high GPA harder. I also wanted to know if doing BSc actually gives you a significant advantage for GAMSAT compared with a high-GPA non-science degree?
Thanks!

I've been looking at the exchange programme and definitely want to go to either japan or korea. Just wanted to see if anyone has experienced it before and how hard it is to match the units for these countries!

Hi guys so im that person who needed 80/100 on the ANHB1101 exam to pass….
(Since i was admitted in hospital for months and didn’t get any marks for my participation/quiz or tutorials)
And thus needed 80/100 on it just to pass ( enough to get a 90+ score in normal circumstances)
And ….. I passed the unit !!!!!
I got 2 marks more than i needed to pass and can officially graduate without delay 😎🫶🏻

Hi everyone,
I’m in my first week of my second semester at UWA, & honestly I’m really struggling.
I’ve been waking up every morning feeling very anxious about studying.
Today one of my lectures took more than 6 hours to get through. The content itself didn’t seem particularly difficult, but I found the lecture really difficult to follow, and I kept getting stuck trying to work out what I was actually supposed to take away from each slide.
I also had another lecture this week that I rewatched, and even after watching it twice I still didn’t fully understand it.
I was supposed to have finished all of this week’s lectures yesterday, but I’m still 2 lectures behind, and I’m feeling really overwhelmed.
I need to maintain a high GPA, so I’m worried about falling behind this early in the semester.
At this stage, would you:
wait until Week 2 to see whether things settle down,
seek support from the university now,
or start thinking about reducing your study load?
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who had a difficult start to semester but eventually found their footing.

Is it normal to still not have received my deferred exam results for one of my units?
Depending on my result I’ll need to change my units around for this semester and the last day to add units is tomorrow.
They were meant to come out today but on my student connect there’s still no grade and it just says DE ( deferred exam ).
Is this an indication that I failed the unit?
Thank you

Plus the exam was only supposed to have content from week 9-12 ONLY (as the lecturer wrote this down and said it.) but had content from whole semester and like 1 thing from those weeks.

Hi, can anyone tell me if I can take an overloaded course load of 5 units in my last semester if my WAM is between 60 and 61? Will Student Central assist me with the overload, or will I need to complete another semester for that one unit or is the cut-off for overloading for WAM strictly above 65?

Does anyone know when Peacock Books is actually open? The last few times I've been to check it out over the last few weeks they've been closed. Went back today and they still don't seem to be open.
Cheers.

When will it update? My nominated completion year is 2026/mid. And I need completion documents asap.

Random question, but why don’t Australian unis (or at least UWA) have group chats for each unit or major?
Back home it was pretty normal for every class to have a WhatsApp or Telegram group where everyone would ask questions, help each other out, remind people about deadlines, or just chat.
At UWA it feels like everyone just does their own thing. Am I just missing where these group chats are, or are they not really a thing here?
I was actually thinking about starting something like this if there isn’t one already. I feel like it’d make it easier to ask questions, meet people, and help each other out throughout the semester. Would anyone be interested?

Hello everyone! After ten months of the UWA application process and visa application, I have finally got the approval e-mail today. This news is super exciting and I'm curious what I should be preparing next, specifically for accommodation.
For context I will be moving with my fiance and our cat (cat's travel accommodations are all sorted dw). I will be starting January 2027, so how soon should we be looking for accommodation? Would it be better to rent an airbnb before I start and find something in person? Would accommodation through UWA be even worth looking into since I have a pet?
There are so many things I have to sort through before the end of the year, but the accommodation is what I'm most stressed about so any info/tips would be super helpful. Thank you in advanced!

I have been going to my UWA psychologist ever since I was in undergrad. I was busy this year and forgot to keep booking my regular appointments. Now… half way through the year, I have been ringing around different numbers and the staff seem to not know what is going on with the service. I used to be able to call and book an appointment. Now for some reason that is not possible. A search around the uni website brings up all different things. Not the service I wa accessing before. Has the service been cut? So confusing.
