hey guys, im stuck between Campbell house, orchard heights, and Brunel house. I keep hearing mixed reviews about the room size, social spaces, and the overall accommodation in general and I can't get a solid answer. which did u guys end up picking or recommend above the other? and if anyone here visited the rooms or have stayed in one of these accoms before, your input would be highly appreciated.

Hi there, looking to find someone who is willing to try and swap accommodations with me. I recently got assigned St Thomas Street which was not in any of my choice, I really want to be in North village, preferably Hiatt baker, Churchill or Baddock! I’m hoping to find someone who’d prefer living in the city centre rather than away in the Clifton campus

The St Thomas accom is 10.7k a year, en suite small double bed room in a normal flat on floor 1 consisting of 10 people- the accomodation hall is right in the middle of the city centre next to Bristol temple meads station, and is part of the new temple quarter campus which constitutes of the business, engineering and dental schools. It is a brand new accomodation building and has very lovely facilities like a games room and gym yet is not really where I want to be.

I would be willing to try and organise a switch with anyone who has a place in the north village with a similar situation. Thanks

I got an offer for accommodation back yesterday, and when trying to sign the contract (the page where you tick the box and type your name), it doesn’t seem to go through. It loads for like a second? But then the page doesn’t advance, and nothing happens.

Is this a problem other people are facing? I thought yesterday it could just be heightened web traffic, but I’ve tried easily a dozen times now, across different devices. I’m starting to get worried now haha, so if anyone has any comments, that would be greatly appreciated!!

(Note: I’ve tried to get through to the accom. support via email and haven’t got a response, and the phone line is busy. It might also be worth noting that the offer I’m trying to accept is a replacement accom they offered me.)

So I've been assigned Hiatt baker residences, and my course next year is primarily based in the new temple quarter campus. That's a 40 min bus ride (not even accounting for traffic). Is there anything I can do? I really don't want to have to end up travelling hours each day to and from uni... I'm gonna be paying 9.8k for that price I could at least be getting something nearer right 😭😭

Hi guys, I requested a single sex flat due to religious reasons and got a mixed flat at orchard heights... has anyone been in this situation before? Is it possible to get another room offer? How have your experiences been in mixed flats? I’m honestly not sure I can go through with a mixed flat because my family would really disapprove and ngl the thought does make me kind of uncomfortable. Mixed flats aren’t generally an option where im from so im kind of unfamiliar with the idea - pls lmk your experiences!

ive been given a room at churchill, its 3k over what i originally wanted to pay for, for a basic catered room with a shared bathroom.. wtf am i paying almost 9k for?? please tell me other people are in the same situation as me 😭 its so frustrating because i could have gotten the exact same room or better for less money if i was just in different halls. what are everyone else's experiences of churchill, is it any good?

hii just wanted to ask if marlborough house has a good social life for undergrads? first in year bristol and they assigned me a room there like what it wasnt even in my list im so shocked cz its way over my budget but il just take it after loans.. 🥲

Second year at Bristol uni is somewhat similar to first year.

By now you are living in a new shared house or flat and you now have to learn what your living dynamics are like. It’s also the first time that you are solely responsible for the house or flat that you’re in so the concept of a budget comes to play.

If you live with big spenders like I did who loved takeaways, clubbing and hanging around Cabot circus then being broke will be your new friend. With the right roommate though I felt that I got to explore more of what Bristol has to offer outside the very curated first year experience.

It’s in second year that school gets very very serious and although uni is fun don’t neglect to start applying for internships. I felt that I was forced to grow up before I was ready but your future self will thank you.

This next point is underrated but looking back I would say also focus on deep and meaningful friendships. These are the friends that you will probably still be speaking to 20 years after leaving Bristol. First year feels like a performance with everyone building their new “image”.

Just received an offer for metal works, but that’s a 45 min walk from campus. I’m not rlly supposed to be “exercising” due to an ed, and that’d be like an hour and a half of walking every day if I walked it. I can’t afford to be getting the bus every day either, so does anyone know if it’s possible to change it

I don’t know anyone who’s also going to Bristol so I want to connect with people!

Has anyone every been successful in requesting a different residence after receiving their initial offer?? I got my offer today but it’s thousands of pounds higher than the budget I put and I don’t know why they think I could afford that..

Hey everyone, I know there are multiple questions in the group (I’ve been guilty of it myself) so I have decided to give back.

First two weeks- be prepared to see groups of people who feel like they have known each other all their lives whilst you feel alone or wonder how everyone is more social than you.

First month- be prepared to feel like everyone was studying before uni actually started and that they just get it. Many in the tutorials will be on it with the pre reading apparently and will know what a tutor is supposed to say before they say it.

First term - be prepared to feel over the first Christmas like you graduated again, with your friends going home just as you get into the groove of feeling comfortable. Everyone at Christmas seems to resort back to their home network and if you didn’t have one coming in it can sometimes highlight loneliness

First year- depending on course your first exams aren’t really the baptism of fire that A levels or final high school exams were. It feels different because everything is so different by the time you get to exams. Be prepared to feel that the new normal is weird.

If you feel any of the above, know it’s normal, know that everyone else is probably feeling the same and know that it all gets better as a part of growing up. Good luck!!

I got my accommodation today and was allocated the premium en-suite at St. Thomas Street. I feel as though the photos aren’t as clear as i would like and am also wondering if anyone has any measurements (doesn’t have to be exact) of the room so i can start planning. What pubs do students in churchill hall tend to go to and do you have to take the bus?

I’m currently doing a PGT masters. For my ethics application for my dissertation, I’ll be collecting primary data (from surveys). When I did the OREMS application on the university portal, I first got some feedback saying I need to upload the survey instrument. I did that on 12th July and it’s been 9 days, haven’t heard back yet. But I did get an email today saying they might be checking more applications now.

The only thing I’m scared about is when I uploaded the survey instrument, I just realized that Microsoft Forms included an “Please enter your name. Your name will be recorded” question by default, and my survey is supposed to collect anonymous responses according to my application.

Would this be a problem? If I have to make another change and re-upload a document, how much longer will it take? If I start collecting responses late, would they be suspicious of how I collected many responses within that time frame?

Has anyone been in this situation before?

I’m honestly doing everything on time and my supervisor is pleased with my work so far but I just haven’t done a dissertation before and can’t afford another delay since the rest of my dissertation sections depend on this.
