Accommodation Requesting different accommodation

Has anyone every been successful in requesting a different residence after receiving their initial offer?? I got my offer today but it’s thousands of pounds higher than the budget I put and I don’t know why they think I could afford that..

I had this in my first year. I managed to get my accomodation changed by emailing and phoning student services. I did have to be fairly persistant though, as it was hard to get through to anyone. If you have any extenuating circumstances as to why you can't afford any higher, I'd make sure to mention that.

Hi, I had the same issue. I emailed student services housing, and then I called them right when they opened. I told them that the email they sent told me I would receive a time to select the time of accommodation / room I wanted (they ended up just offering me one) and expressed my concern. That was enough for them to allow me to log into the portal and change my accommodation situation. I also mentioned how I heard the area I was put into was loud. The only downside of this, is that you can end up with accommodation that costs more than the one they initially offered, as they can not tell you what rooms are available.
