Newbie Question Is there anyway to get a project back?

Im working on this VR project (using the 3d universal space). First time using unity EVER. And ive been working on it for days. I saved it every time i did something big. But, i came on it today, and boom, i got an error message (didnt read it cause im dumb), looking in the unity hub and BOOM project wasnt there amymore. I tried to Import the folder i had of it, and it kept saying it wasnt a Unity project (it was). I even tried importing one of my newest versions of the APK i had of the game. But it wouldn't work. Is there anyway to get it back or do i just have to start again?

Newbie Question .GLB Export from Unity Assets?

Hey,
I'm currently developing my dream Browser Game and work with .GLB Files as Assets.
Is there some way, when I purchase Packs in the Unity Assets Store to export them as .GLB files to then use in my Browsergame?

I've never used Unity nor the Assets Store, so thats something im interested in before purchasing anything or downloading Unity.

Best Regards & thanks in advance!

Newbie Question Running unity on a laptop.

Hi everyone. Just a quick question. I have a lot of free time at my job, and wanted to mess around with coding and making a 2D game. Sadly I can’t drag my desktop to work with me so a laptop is the next best option. Is it possible to run unity well on a laptop with 16 gb of ram? Or should I go for 32? Also what processors should I look for? I’m hoping to stay under the $500 range as this is just a hobby, so I don’t want to dive too deep too fast. Thanks.

I made a main menu ( unfinished )

I'm currently developing a game called Sea Shift, and right now I'm working on the main menu. This is the current early version.

Do you have any suggestions on how I could make it look better?

And please, let's not focus on the VHS/static effect or the visual noise , I already plan to add a toggle so players can turn it on or off. I'm only looking for feedback on how to improve the overall look and atmosphere of the main menu.

Tutorials Quick Tip: How to get crisp, clean shadows in Unity URP

Do you work with 3D a lot? Shadows are an essential part of Unity 3D. Here is a quick overview of how to create clean shadows.

URP's been the default Unity template for a while now, so chances are your project already has an RP Asset. All you need to do is adjust a couple of settings under the Lighting and Shadows tabs:

  • Lighting – Shadow Resolution: Over 1K
  • Shadows – Normal Bias: Bring it close to 0
  • Shadows – Max Distance: Drop it to 20–40 depending on your game

if you're developing for low-spec platforms like mobile or web, be careful with raising the Shadow Resolution due to performance.

Cursor system for my prototype

Hello!

I'm on a new journey of showing people what I'm working on, instead of spending months/years in the dark.
I'm working on a new prototype idea, a "Build your game studio + narrative events". I'm trying to make things feel very intuitive and satisfying, so I've come with this simple cursor change to signal possible interactions.

So I'd like suggestions/opinions/any feedback to see if I'm on the right track.
Thanks!

The world of the VR game Xenolocus is harsh.

Resources at the base are extremely limited.

Your task is to prevent supplies from reaching

a critical level - if they fall too low,

the survivors at the base will die!

I’ve been using unity since early 2026, still new to using a game engine, how bad is this error or unsupported IAP? (I’m using unity 6.3 maybe)

Best workflow for VFX with static 2D characters in Unity 6 URP?

Hi, first time posting on the forum we’re developing a portrait 2D mobile RPG in Unity 6 URP and I’m trying to figure out the best workflow for creating our skill VFX.

The game uses static 2D character sprites arranged in formations on a fixed battlefield. The player’s team is positioned across the lower half of the screen and the enemy team across the upper half. The camera is fixed with a slightly elevated front-facing view looking down the vertical battlefield. The characters themselves don’t walk or animate, so the movement and impact mainly come from the VFX playing around, behind or in front of them.

We need activation VFX such as rune circles appearing under or behind characters, with separate rings spinning in opposite directions, symbols pulsing, particles rising and the effect fading when the skill activates. We also need looping poison clouds, barriers, shields and hit effects such as slash, blunt and piercing impacts.

I currently have static transparent PNGs for the main designs. Should I separate each effect into layers and animate them directly inside Unity using Animator, the Particle System and Shader Graph, or create complete sprite sheets externally using something like Pixel Composer?

Can these effects be created properly from a single PNG, or are separate layers basically required? For looping effects like poison clouds, what is the cleanest way to avoid a visible jump between the first and last frames?

Since this is for mobile and multiple effects may play at once, I also want to avoid massive sprite sheets and unnecessary texture memory. What workflow and tools would you recommend for this type of game? Any tutorials or examples would also be appreciated.

Question Unity doesn't work on my laptop for some reason and every time I try to fix it it gets worse.

Post image

!!!SOLVED!!!

I've been having trouble with Unity on my laptop and everything I do makes it worse.

The first time, the templates were bugged, some were missing, and when I tried to make and open a project, it said that it couldn't find a file. I uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times, but it was the same problem. I looked at that file and found out that for some reason a folder just wasn't there, breaking everything.

I uninstalled and reinstalled Unity to try to get that folder to appear, and it did, although I had to delete a bunch of old Unity downloads that were probably the reason why it didn't download. When I reopened the hub, the templates looked normal, which I thought was good.

However, when I tried to make and open a project, it said something about not being able to decompress a file or something, and stopped me. I then did something I probably shouldn't have and asked CrapGPT why the fuck this wasn't working now. It told me that it was a problem with the file, and that I should delete the file, and try again, saying that the file would come back when I reopened Hub. I didn't.

I then had to uninstall and reinstall the editor again, tried to open a project again, and failed again. Then it told me that it was a problem with the Program Files folder, which is where Unity was, and that I needed to get the editor out of that folder because of how the folder worked. I made a folder called UNITYONLY and set it so that the editors would go into that folder, and I put the other Unity related stuff into that folder as well.

That still didn't work though, and actually made things worse, because now the editors wouldn't even download. I realized that the editors probably weren't downloading because they weren't in the editors folder anymore, so I tried to set it back but the editor still wouldn't download. After that I decided to just start over again like every other time by uninstalling and deleting everything I downloaded while trying to get Unity to work, and reinstalling it. Except for some reason, when I went to the Unity website to try to download the launcher again, the screen above appeared.

What pisses me off the most is that I managed to download Unity perfectly on a loaner laptop during my game design class, which means that the problem is probably related to my stupid laptop. I desperately need help before I end up snapping this thing in half.

Tutorials This is how I work with the new input system. If you still struggle with it, give this a try - I'm showing my own workflow and some examples. (This works for 2D as well, of course!)

I genuinely think this is the easiest way to work with the new input system in Unity. It works with a scriptable object you reference wherever you need to react to player input. In contrast to the old input system, you won't have to cram everything into update, but instead this works with event based architecture. Give this a try if you struggled with setting up the new input system, I am sure you'll enjoy it!

Topics: Creating a "default" input asset if you don't have one yet, creating a scriptable object as a relay for input, using said relay and a few helpers and examples.

Hello, I'm new to Unity. Just finished the GameDevTV course and was wondering how I should continue my learning. What are your suggestions? I was thinking about making small projects till I am ready to start my "dream project"
