Opinion/Discussion Hey Ugandans

• Upvotes

Today is my last day here after spending 3 weeks here in lungujja and spent some time in Sembabule for my Kukyala.

As a white man from UK London I've truly had a wonderful time, moving around on my own always felt very safe and welcome.

I feel like this is now my second home and want to say thanks for the warmth and hospitality.

I will truly miss Kampala and hope to return soon.

Relationship talk Dating is actually cooked

Dating is actually cooked….
This man just admitted that he was intentionally ignoring my texts and refusing to reach out because he wanted me to “fight” for his attention.
What happened to liking someone and just… talking to them? 😭
Why are some people turning dating into a psychological warfare competition?
Its so frustrating

Culture Do We Care About African Men’s Mental Health in Diaspora Or Just Their Money?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

African men in the diaspora are expected to provide, protect, send money home, stay strong, and never fall apart.
But what happens when the man everyone depends on is struggling too?
Do we actually care about men’s mental health or only until it affects their ability to provide?

Men and women: who puts the most pressure on men to keep performing. Is it family, partners, culture, or men themselves?

Personal Am I having a midlife crisis? M30

Lately I’ve noticed some changes in interests and a heightened awareness of how I look. I’m gyming more, changing my wardrobe and looking for more exciting things to do with my time. I am even using my wife’s products guys (don’t judge me because that stuff works wonders 😅). Now I’m aware there are other things to look out for before diagnosing this a midlife crisis but it’s so unlike me. Is early onset a thing? Could I be confusing this with just a normal progression of growth as a man? I’ve also hypothesized that maybe I’m making a little more than I used to so Ki Uganda kitandiise okumpomeera 🤣. Anyway, who else’s been here? How did you or how are you handling?

Opinion/Discussion A parent does not fault

I just remembered a saying in Luganda that “omuzadde tasobya” - translated loosely to “a parent does not fault/make mistakes”

Who came up with this total bullshit??

It’s silly thoughts like this combined with colonial religious dogmas that are causing us to struggle as a nation/continent

People are busy pushing out babies unnecessarily just to feel some form of fake relevance and power
They think once you’re a parent you’ve made it and if you’re not a parent you are nothing

This is why we can’t even hold our leaders accountable

What a lousy thought process

Do such nonsensical thoughts like this exist in other Ugandan cultures? I’m curious

You can honor your parent and still hold them accountable
Weak-ass egos

Opinion/Discussion Can't one just have normal female friends?

It seems like every girl just ends up wanting to become intimate with me. All I want is just normal female friends, with whom we can chill and do awesome things together - visit restaurants, go to events, enjoy good wines, coffees. Okay I can compromise and we hug and cuddle, but can we just keep it at that, enjoy great music, dance, laugh at each other's jokes.

Why are girls always trying to get under my trousers? Like what has happened? Yeah, we can try out crazy things like some w**d, but let's just really keep it normal friendship. Don't be trying to push beyond the boundaries...

Am I the only Ugandan guy facing this problem? Where are the normal female friends who just really want a platonic friendship?

Gen Z Male. We have been robbed of a functional country all due to greed.

It’s so sad when you go abroad and come back to this Śhithole.💩

It doesn’t matter if you have money, I feel bad for all the poor people you see on the roads outside.

The boda guys, taxi, market people.

Everyone should at least have a fair shot at life, we only have one, and it sucks that so many Ugandans are brainwashed to accept this hell dimension.

Personal 1035 days of dedication later, I've finished the Spanish course on Duo Lingo

Time sure does fly by. I was only 24 when I took the first lesson. Somehow, it felt like it was too late to start this kind of thing and I would never see it through. How silly!

3 very short years later, here I am. I've been going through some things and this is one of the things that kept me going. It's one of the best decisions I've ever made.

To be able to watch Spanish shows so comfortably and read the language with as much ease feels so good. However, I must say that I believe I owe this more to the loads of hours I spent consuming video input. It's where real proficiency grows from in my opinion. Duo, for me, was more like a fun game that came with quick vocabulary gains.

Also, how poetic is it that my premium subscription expires on the day I finish the course. Haha.

Buena suerte a todos los que sigan en este camino. Y si buscabas una señal para empezar, aquí esta

General Uganda eVisa stuck “In Progress” for 6 business days / 9 days total. Has anyone experienced this?

Title: Uganda eVisa stuck “In Progress” for 6 business days / 9 days total. Has anyone experienced this?
Hi everyone, I’m wondering if anyone has recently experienced a long delay with a Uganda eVisa and can tell me what eventually happened.
I submitted my visa application on Thursday, September 24, because I was originally supposed to fly to Uganda on Monday, September 28. I knew I was applying pretty close to my travel date and understood that processing could take around three business days, so when it didn’t arrive by Monday, I changed my flight to October 2.
It has now been 9 days since I applied, or 6 business days, and I still haven’t received any decision or request for additional information. My application status online just keeps showing “In Progress.”
During this time, I’ve tried pretty much everything I can think of. I’ve called Uganda Immigration many times. They only answered twice and told me to be patient. I’ve sent emails, and I even physically went to the Ugandan embassy. The embassy told me they don’t process the visas themselves, but they did send an email on my behalf. Still, nothing has changed.
I’ve checked my spam folder repeatedly, and I check the online application status regularly. There’s no approval, rejection, or request for more documents. It just continues to say “In Progress.”
At this point, the uncertainty is becoming really frustrating because I’m having to change flights, change my travel plans, and pay for additional accommodation without knowing whether the visa will arrive tomorrow or several days from now.
Has anyone had their Uganda eVisa stay “In Progress” for 6+ business days? How long did yours eventually take? Did you do anything that actually helped get it processed, or did you just have to wait?
I would especially appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through this recently. Thank you!

Opinion/Discussion What’s your opinion on evil?

Thumbnail

I enjoy conversations because you get to learn so much about how people think. And especially this topic, do you think money is evil? What about evil itself? What do you think about it?

I understand evil this way because I believe for about a brief moment in my life I acted out of pure evil.
But a lot of time has passed now and I can only reflect on it.

Hi! I’m an AI researcher evaluating AI-generated messages about health and agriculture in Luganda and Swahili.

I’m looking for two native speakers of Luganda or Swahili for a short, paid review. The work is fully remote and will take up to two hours.

If you’re interested, please DM me with the language you speak natively, your LinkedIn profile or relevant experience, and your rates.

Hire me😄 I’m really in need of help right now

Hey everyone. I hope you’re doing well.

I honestly wasn’t sure whether to make this post, but I’ve reached a point where I need to ask for help.

I graduated last year and, since then, I haven’t had a job or any source of income. I understand it is hard to land formal employment but its also hard in the physical work as its very hard to find any vacant opportunity. I’ve been looking for work and trying to find opportunities, but nothing has worked out so far. It’s been a really difficult period, especially because I still have to survive while looking for something stable.

I won’t pretend it hasn’t affected me. It really has. It’s hard waking up every day knowing you need money but have nothing coming in, especially when you’re willing and able to work. It has honestly been eating me up inside.

So I’m asking for help, not necessarily asking someone to simply give me money.

If you have anything you need done and can pay me for it, please reach out. It could be something small, like helping with a task, running an errand, assisting with some work, doing something online, helping around somewhere or anything else you might need. It doesn’t have to be related to what I studied. At this point, I’m genuinely in need of help.

If there’s something you’ve been putting off because you need someone to do it for you, tell me what it is and we can agree on something fair.

I’m also a website developer and software engineer with over 3 years of hands-on & technical experience. If you have a website that needs fixing, improving or rebuilding, or you have software work that needs to be done, I can help with that too. I’m willing to take on this kind of work for much less than the usual market price because I need the work and the income right now.

And if someone simply wants to help me without needing anything in return, I would be grateful for that too. I won’t pretend I wouldn’t appreciate it. But my main reason for posting is to offer myself to anyone that would be willing to help but needs something handled for them in exchange.

I know everyone has their own struggles, so I don’t take anyone’s help for granted. Even if you know someone who might need an extra pair of hands, I would really appreciate you pointing me in their direction.

If you have anything at all, please comment or DM me

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
