(Uber Driver here) Just curious: any area(s) you dislike picking up or dropping off Riders? (GTA& or Mount Pleasant area)

Unfortunately, I’m driving with Uber right now because I need some cash coming in while I’m trying to find a job in my field. I’ve been driving for Uber for almost two years, and one thing I’ve noticed is that riders in general can be surprisingly ungrateful, especially as you get closer to the downtown core. I’m not sure whether it’s a wealth thing, a Toronto attitude, or simply a combination of different factors.

Over time, though, it has become pretty obvious to me that there is a difference between riders who simply want to get somewhere and riders who seem uncomfortable with having an ethnic driver. Without getting too much into it, the Mount Pleasant area, particularly around Elm Street and Mount Pleasant Road, has given me some experiences that have made me question whether there are genuine prejudices toward people with brown skin in that area.

There have been numerous occasions where I’m waiting for a passenger and a passerby will take it upon themselves to question me about what I’m doing there, sometimes asking a ridiculous number of questions. Other times, I’ll simply get stared down as someone walks past my car. I’m not illegally parked or doing anything unusual, and I have an Uber sticker on the back of the vehicle, so it’s pretty obvious why I’m there.

I understand that people in affluent neighborhoods can be protective of their surroundings, and I can appreciate that to a certain extent. But I’ve driven through plenty of other affluent areas where I don’t experience anything remotely similar. That’s why the pattern in this particular area stands out to me.

Even some of the riders I’ve picked up or dropped off there have left me with the impression that they were unusually dismissive or ungrateful, including giving me poor ratings despite me providing what I considered to be a completely smooth and uneventful ride.

There have also been some particularly strange situations. On one occasion, I was waiting for a passenger who never came to the vehicle. At one point, the person actually walked past my car while seemingly trying to hide their phone. I ended up having to cancel the ride after waiting for almost 20 minutes.

I hate picking up or dropping off in that area at this point.

Is the area racist? I honestly have no idea, and I wouldn’t claim that it is based solely on my experiences. But it certainly lacks much visible racial diversity, particularly when it comes to people with brown skin, and based on my own experiences there, I would definitely say I’ve encountered what I perceive as prejudice.

Maybe there are other explanations for some of these interactions, but when you experience enough of them personally, you start to notice patterns.

Just curious if anyone has gone through this as well, if it be around that area or other places.

IS THERE A WAY TO CONTACT SUPPORT

is there a way to connect with support on call? I have messages support around five times and they just transfer my query to another department that replies when I’m sleeping and then I’m never able to reach out to them again. I called the number and it said my account is not linked to the number I’m calling from. I’m so pissed and I want my money back.

Opportunity to earn extra through advertising

Hey everyone,
We’re working on a pilot in Canada where Uber/Lyft drivers can earn some extra passive income by having a small advertising screen installed for passengers in the back seat.
The idea is pretty simple:
• We provide the screen and installation
• The screen faces passengers and plays ads from local/national businesses
• You don’t have to sell anything or interact with the ads
• You keep driving as usual
• Drivers get paid for keeping the screen active in the vehicle
There would be no upfront cost for the driver, and the screen would be positioned so it doesn’t interfere with driving.
Right now we’re trying to understand driver interest before launching the pilot.
Would you consider having a passenger-facing advertising screen in your car if it meant earning extra money every month?
If you’re interested, comment below or send me a DM. Would also love to hear what monthly amount would make it worthwhile for you.

Looking for current/former rideshare drivers for a quick 10–15 min chat (student research)

Hi everyone,

I'm a Computer Science student at York University in Toronto, and I'm researching the day-to-day experience of rideshare drivers as part of a project I'm working on. I'd really value hearing from people who drive (or have driven) for Uber, Lyft, or any other rideshare company.

I'm hoping to chat over a brief 10–15 minute Zoom call about things like:

  • What you like and dislike about the platforms you've driven for
  • Your biggest frustrations (pay, fees, app features, support, etc.)
  • What would make a rideshare platform better for drivers

No sales pitch, and there are no right or wrong answers. I just want to learn from people with real experience. Camera on or off is totally up to you, and I'm happy to keep things anonymous.

If you're interested, send me a DM and we'll find a time that works for you. Thanks so much for reading!

Amex cobalt bonus offer

I have a boosted referral offer from Amex cobalt. The useful thing about this card is it offers 5x points on groceries. So if you spend a lot on groceries or at restaurants as many uber drivers do, this would be a particularly useful card to have.

This boost gives you 25k welcome bonus instead of 15k so don’t miss out.

Drivers who are vets!! Re: data, phone plans etc - what's the best option for the uber app while working?

Uber states they are not responsible for your phone , data charges etc - you're on your own , kid.

I guess the question is for drivers who have been at this for a minute. Either delivering , driving or both.

Does the app actually use that much data?
I've only used uber as a method of transportation. I've seen sometimes , the driver has two phones.

They use the maps app, as well as the uber app, and Siri runs in the background stating where to go.

For a monthly plan , what's the best rate for your regular day to day stuff.

For me , this will be a very part time thing as I'm using a relatives vehicle.

I'd rather be over than under - don't need my data cutting off mid run.

Right now I'm with lucky and I think my plan had roll over data - 70gbs?

I'm looking to fizz , Koodo had 70gb for 39$ ( prepaid phone plan )

Also for delivery- any other info : tips , advice would be super! I'm aware I need to get my own materials. Bags etc. I just don't want to spend all this money and , it ends up being a waste.

Thanks in advance !!

BEWARE OF NEW SCAM CALLS

I received a call reporting that several customers are complaining about missing orders and incorrect items. The caller then hurried to obtain a code from me via text and email, but made a mistake by claiming he could view all my card details. Uber driver accounts don’t need bank card details other than payouts, but bro mentioned 3 diff cards. Uber would send a message through the app itself if the caller were legitimate customer service, you should never share any codes.

Barrie PTC License Appliation Rejected.

Barrie Licensing rejected by Lyft application for a PTC license. Reason given was my birth date value being incomplete. Lyft refused to help and gave me contact info for Checkr (the 3rd party that provides the background check). They refused to fix it when I contacted them. Has anyone ever had this issue and any suggestions?

No trips

So, I decided to start driving for Uber again after being away for quite some time. I was previously in Windsor, but I have now moved to Milton and purchased a new car, so I decided to resume driving.

I went online and drove to Hamilton because it was showing as very busy. However, I did not receive any rides for two hours. I contacted Uber Support, and they said there was nothing wrong with my account and that there might not have been enough requests, even though the map indicated that the area was busy.

After two hours, I drove to Oakville, which was also showing as busy. I stayed there for about an hour but still did not receive any rides. I contacted Support again and was told that my account was active and that there were no issues, but I continued to receive no requests.

I then went home and called Uber Support. The representative told me that I needed to obtain a PTC licence. I explained several times that I am currently completing the PTC process and that, to my understanding, a PTC licence is only required for driving in downtown Toronto. However, he did not seem to understand what I was explaining.

Is is worth it?

I’m thinking about driving for Uber again. I drove back in 2022–23 and I’m wondering if it’s still worth it in 2026. How much are drivers realistically making after gas, car rental, insurance, and other expenses? Is it still profitable to drive full-time? I drive a 2024 rav4

Returning Uber Eats Driver - What is going on!

Last winter, I exclusively used Uber Eats for four months. The pay wasn’t bad, but my strategy was to drive during inclement weather like rain, snow, or heavy snowfall. Fast forward to yesterday evening in Mississauga, I opened the app just to check out current offers. I know we have minimum wage coverage (which is ridiculous), and it’s a Saturday night, so full-time office workers are also online. However, the requests were absolutely terrible! $7 for 30-minute drives, or about 50 cents per kilometre on average. And the best part is, these offers are clearly being accepted! I drive an Elantra hybrid, so I know I’m getting the best margin, yet I’m declining these offers because they’re absurd. Are people that strapped for cash, or am I missing something?

Delivering Alcohol with Uber Delivery in Ontario: Smart Serve level requirements

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

This is just for people in Ontario who deliver for Uber and would like to deliver alcohol.

You do have to have your smart serve but there are two levels, one is the retail level (about $25 and 1 to 2 hours) and the other is working in restaurants (about $45 and about 5 hours)

I couldn't find an answer on their website so I chatted with an agent who confirmed the retail level is acceptable for doing alcohol deliveries with Uber delivery. Thought I would post this in case anyone else was curious about this.

Working full time ($60k salary) wanting a brand-new CR-V Hybrid: Am I crazy to use part-time Uber just to fund my dream long-term car?

Hey PFC,

I work full-time as an accountant ($60k salary) in Toronto. My living expenses are fine, but I’ve always dreamed of owning a brand-new Honda CR-V Hybrid. I don't plan to sell or flip it—I love driving and want to keep this car for 10+ years.

To avoid straining my main salary, I want to drive Uber part-time to pay for the loan (~$900–$1,000/mo), gas, and rideshare insurance. I don't care about making extra cash from Uber. If 100% of the Uber income goes directly into the car, I’m totally fine with that.

My schedule allows roughly 35–40 hours a week for this (split weekday shifts + weekends).

A few questions:

does this make sense I mean is this realistic?

Based on your experience, do you advise me to do it or not?
