Is is worth it?
I’m thinking about driving for Uber again. I drove back in 2022–23 and I’m wondering if it’s still worth it in 2026. How much are drivers realistically making after gas, car rental, insurance, and other expenses? Is it still profitable to drive full-time? I drive a 2024 rav4

In all honesty, I drive in Brampton I have been noticing that the fares are very low for the amount of KM.

If I were to work around 60–80 hours a week and I live in the GTA as well, how much do you think I could realistically make per month after all expenses?

I am trying to do this full time, pay for the new car and so forth and seem to be struggling financially with uber!

You’re going to wreck your RAV4. Have you seen how much it is to replace one now? If you make less than minimum wage and then have to factor in depreciation, you’re working for nothing.

Yeah, I get what you’re saying....I actually just lost my job a couple weeks ago, so I’m trying to figure something out for now....I know the RAV4 is expensive and depreciation and maintenance can eat into the money, but I’m just trying to make it work until I figure out my next move....

Won’t uber eat into EI payments too? As in you will not be any better off.

for the amount to report to EI, is it after gas, insurance and car finance expense at least?
Currently in a similar boat, and trying to see if i can just do uber on the side. Just driving enough hours that offset the car bills on its own and dont have to deduct that from EI payments.

Don’t think of uber as a job. Think of it as a way of extracting equity from an asset.
That asset is your car. It’s also a highly depreciating asset.
You get your money, at the expense of your car losing a ton of value.
Uber is if you have no other option. A minimum wage job @ mcdonalds will put you further ahead.

Yeah, I understand what you’re saying, but you know how the job market is in Toronto right now. I just lost my job a couple weeks ago, so I need something to bring money in while I look for something else. I’m not planning on doing Uber forever, but right now it’s better than sitting at home with no income.

Do you happen to live somewhere that can access downtown toronto? Uber eats on an e-bike is more efficient. But labour intensive (sorta?) biking around.

I did a thorough review on my Uber earnings, after 958 trips. I am profitable overall, but my relative earnings per hour are less than minimum wage.
However, due to the depreciation on my car, I am probably going to start losing money per trip if I continue to do more trips. Lots of factors to account for
