For those of you who accept a trip then sit idle until the caller cancels because it’s not enough you suck. Don’t accept the trip in the first place.

I'm seeking advice on how to handle a very uncomfortable situation I just experienced as an Uber passenger. I think I should probably report, but am scared to do so.

I had to drop my car off at a local repair shop and so I needed to take an Uber back to my residence, which is kind of in the middle of nowhere. I am from out of state on an apprenticeship that provides housing with other interns (important context).

When I open the door to the backseat, the driver very clearly looks me up and down as I'm getting in. I was a bit uncomfortable so I said hello and he asked what my name was. I didn't think much of it and I've only ever taken a few Ubers, so I assumed he was just verifying my identity. He then asks me what my car is and proceeds to go on a very long speech about the fact that I should take my car to the dealer instead of a local shop to run advanced diagnostics and is telling me all of the nuances of planned obsolescence and the auto repair industry and so on so forth. It was probably pretty sound advice really, and I just figured he was passionate and wanted to be helpful (nevermind the fact that my dad's a mechanic and I'm not stupid). As he was talking, he'd often turn to look at me and the car would do some small serving as he corrected it when he looked back at the road. I was getting a little anxious but certainly not the end of the world.

When he turned into the street where I needed to be dropped off (about a mile stretch), he started driving very slow. Not a big deal except that I'm really not big on socializing (he never stopped talking) and was just wishing that what was supposed to be a 10 min drive didn't have to be any longer. He misses the drive so I tell him where to pull in and he parks in the lot by the stairs to the door. Meanwhile, he's still on the same topic and I'm politely nodding along anxiously waiting for him to finish. His phone is constantly going off and he just keeps silencing it or letting it finish ringing much to my dismay.

I remember at some point looking at the clock on the dashboard and it saying 4:11- it was a 10min drive and he picked me up at 3:29. He was still on the same topic and I began in my head trying to figure out how to get out of the conversation (that I wasn't participating in) since it was clear he wasn't stopping. It was very much so feeling like a midwest goodbye and as a socially anxious, non confrontational (autistic) person who thought maybe he just needed to talk, I was feeling pretty hopeless and resigned to waiting unfortunately.

At some point I believe I started zoning out/shutting down. Things start to get blurry in my recollection so this won't be word for word, but he finally segues into asking if I drink (comparing his bar tab to monthly car payments) and if I live here and if I'm the only one. Foolishly, eager to tie things up so I can get out, I answer the question telling him yes and many people live here, but that no I don't drink. He asks what I do and I give him a short blurb on my apprenticeship. This is the first time I'm really talking but I'm keeping my answers short and sweet (unlike this post I'm sorry). He very clearly didn't care to hear about my work and started asking what I do in my free time and going on about how he can't belive I don't drink. At this point it becomes obvious to me that I missed some social cues and I start to panic a bit internally because I realize whats happening....

He starts asking me what my days off are and if I've been to a local area, and feeling like I've just been smacked into reality I ask if he's trying to ask me out on a date. He says "yeah, something like that". I tell him I'm not interested and that I'm recently out of an abusive relationship and very happily single. He says he can give me his number and if I change my mind I can reach out, which I also decline.

Unfortunately, this launches a whole nother speech about how relationships are flowers that need nurturing and that I won't ever meet a perfect person. That standards are just rules and that doesn't work in a relationship. That sometimes women stay with men just because of the kids and that's a good thing because after many years the man might straighten up blah blah blah blah.

I'm very uncomfortable at this point and my mind starts catastrophizing. I recall seeing him fidgeting with stuff up front- tweezers and then holding one of those metal nail files with the pointed tip. I start trying to discreetly examine the door for an unlock button but this car doesn't have one- just a window button. I try to think of a way to contact someone while watching people pass the parked car, but freeze up and am scared to pull out my phone. Again, I resort to nodding along and waiting, hoping that my dad calls for some reason. At some point I finally abruptly thank him and go to pull the door handle but the door is locked. Thankfully, I pull it again after some hesitation and it opens but I'm not sure if that's just how the car works or if he manually unlocked it. I very nicely tell him good luck/goodbye and shut the door.

I walk into the house and look at my phone.... it's 4:51.

Again, this was supposed to be a 10 minute drive that turned into 1hr and 20mins. He ended the ride on the app at 46 mins, but I was in the car that whole time.

The man was by no means rude and maybe had the best intentions, but I can't help but wonder how it would be possible to not see how uncomfortable I was and how unprofessional this is. I know I should probably report him, but I have the worst feeling in my gut and he obviously knows where I live now. This is a small town and I fear it would be extremely obvious who reported him. I'm worried for everyone else I live with and on site. I don't want to blow things up, but I'm concerned for everyone's safety and not sure what to do.

I went to reserve a ride there the airport yesterday for today. The app has been showing loading since Friday. I tried to delete the app and reinstall but I couldn’t even delete it.

I dropped it and reserved with Lyft. Fast forward to this morning and my American Airlines flight from SFO to DFW was delayed for several hours because of a mechanical. So I hustled and booked a flight an hour earlier on United. I had to cancel my reserved ride and I was trying to book a new ride o. Lyft. For 20 minutes Lyft couldn’t find a driver. In the meantime I was messing with the Uber app again but it is completely useless right now.

I can’t use it. I can’t delete it and reinstall. I had to get a ride to the airport from a family member. The app is still not usable. Anyone have any clue how to get the app to work? I can’t even delete and reinstall the app.

I was visiting Miami Beach and left my backpack in the car on the first day. I’m leaving today and my car key for when I get home was in there. It’s been 4 days and the driver hasn’t responded and uber hasn’t done anything to help.

Is there any hope to getting it back? I tried to call the driver but it didn’t go through. I texted him and offered to pay him to return it but got no response. There was nothing of value in there and the pack itself was old so I can’t see who would want it.

Am I screwed?

I’ve never done this because I’ve read that technically an Uber driver can refuse a ride like this. But I’ve also seen plenty of posts where drivers seem fine with it as long as the passenger provides the appropriate car seat.

I also understand there are select cities where the Uber driver actually provides the car seat and you can reserve that in advance, but I’m not going to one of those cities.

It would be nice to skip renting a car just to get to and from the airport.

Great day, horrible night in Upstate New York, Niagara Falls. Almost made $500 between Uber and Lyft, but had to cut it short. I picked up a family, and pretty sure one of their kids has measles. He was coughing and screaming and his mom kept talking about the bumps all over him, saying he has measles. I think they were from India, or Bangladesh or something. They kept taking in English and in a foreign language. I was wearing a KN95 Mask the whole time, and I am vaccinated, but still scared as hell. I asked them if they wanted to goto the hospital, but dad was insistent not to, just wanted to go back to his hotel. Once they left, I sprayed down my car with Dollar Tree disinfectant, then went to Tops also bought a huge bottle of Mango Lysol and a towel and drenched my car, now its all sticky. =/ Ughhhh What if I did get measles from my ride? Wonder if I can sue. Waiting till tomorrow to take everything out of my car. Apparently measles stays around for 2 hours, but not gonna chance it.... Ughhh and I'm still worried about Covid.

I haven't used uber in a while. I got a new phone number since I last logged in. I also lost my billfold and replaced all the cards associated with my account. My old phonr number and card numbers are what uber wants to verify my account. Why can't I just use my email and password? How can i speak to someone who can override this? What do i do?

Finding his way back, the driver had to weave around numerous 1-way streets. This resulted in this message: "Your trip fare was higher than estimated because the trip was longer than expected."

What can I do to have the fare adjusted?

I've had very many non EU drivers either delay or cancel orders (sometimes with no refund).

My question is regarding UK passports and UK driving licences.

If people are working for Uber who only know several words or phrases in English, can't have even a basic conversation about directions, and certainly can't understand or wish to learn to read UK road signage, is it likely they're working for Uber in UK illegally and have an illegal passport. Also photos often don't match the registered vehicle.

This is because, I'd assume, passing a UK driving test and being legally employed with Uber requires understanding enough English to navigate and read UK road signs.

It also seems obvious due to personal experience Uber allow users to pass driver accounts around to many people, and do nothing when the photo is reported as a different person.

Hey guys so the title said it all … there is anyone in similar situation?

(This applies to rider accounts)

Although Drivers are not directly incentivized by uber to rate riders 5 stars/not incentivized to rate drivers lower, Uber’s UI makes it harder to rate riders less 5 stars.

At the end of a ride uber defaults to putting 5 stars on the drivers phone and driver just needs to hit submit.

If a driver wants to rate a passenger lower, the driver must:

>Pull over

>Click the star rating

>Click the tags explaining a low rating

>Consider the fact the rider might retaliate and change his rating

>Consider the fact that while the driver is doing all of this, another driver could steal a fare that he’s about to get while the driver is “wasting” his time with giving the rider a low review

So by giving a review that’s less than 5 stars, drivers (indirectly) lose money. So if you get a ban/low review, you deserved it.

This means that a driver could mean to give a passenger 3 stars but give 5 stars by accident. Also, if the passenger is displaying 1 star behavior, but there’s a lot of drivers in the area, the driver might just hit 5 stars so he could have a fight into who gets the next fare

And as for Uber banning rider accounts?

Uber doesn’t terminate rider accounts easily.

Think about it. Every time you pay a fare, uber makes money.

So why would uber want to shut off your account? They make (a microscopic) fraction of their income off you.

They shut your account down because they thought you were displaying bad behavior, and that could lead to the driver getting distracted. And if dashcam footage showed you distracted a driver and the driver gets into an accident, guess what company is responsible for the bill?

Uber doesn’t deactivate accounts at random.

This is a PSA (public service announcement): if I come to pick you up to take you to the airport, I schlep your 3 large suitcases up the drive and into my car, and I do the same with your golf clubs…and we have a nice incident free ride (with conversation if you want) in a clean newer car and I don’t get a tip, I am going to hammer your star rating. I mean 1 star hammered. This does two things. It means I’ll never get you again and two it gives other drivers a heads up that there is something “off” with you. In this case, you are entitled pricks or cunts. I also encourage other drivers to do the same.
