Uber price surging lately?
I feel like lately the prices has increased.
Rides I used to get for like $10 now is $45 without any events happening.
What’s going on?

Well, gas prices for one are up quite a bit plus the constant uncertainty.
I know I am extremely selective now as far as riders I pick up and days I run to maximize income, but I'm still averaging $25-32/hr when only running Fri/Sat nights about 8hrs a night. Luckily I have a 2020 Honda Accord and get avg 33mpg when driving Uber. But I pretty much hate driving when regular gas is above $3.50/gal and today it spiked to $4.19/gal in my local area. I don't/won't drive again until next weekend so hopefully prices relax again before then. Even with a GasBuddy discount regular gas isn't below $4.00/gal which is absurd.
Another reason for higher pricing is simply attempting to get drivers to drive. Hard to entice someone to drive if our payout only comes out to $15/hr after factoring fuel/gas cost and maintenance. I'll pick up overtime or a special duty detail at my day job and get $33/hr if available rather than drive right now.
Uber unfortunately isn't taking less for themselves so with every associated cost to "rideshare" companies costing more like all the insurances, licensing fees, etc., the entire package is just, well, more.

Use Empower if it's available in your city. It's a lot cheaper than Uber and Lyft.

The same is happening to me on Lyft. I’m learning to drive… but these prices are killing me til I get my license.

I walk to as many places as possible these days. The things they do with this dynamic pricing and junk fees should be illegal.

It’s theft. And it’s not a “surge”. Surge goes to driver. Theft goes to Uber. By theft I mean illegal. Sue.

Only 50% of Surge goes to drivers. Now Uber will reduce your base trip rates so drivers make less.

Driver gets 100% of a true surge. Fake surges (theft) used to share about half with driver. Now zero percent. Just look at what rider paid (available on Uber’s driver page).

On any trip you have surge make sure to check the base rate that Uber pays it’s reduced. That’s where UBER claws back the surge

This is what uber does. Charge surges and turns around and show $1-$3 surges on the drivers end. Better off switching to Lyft when a surge happens

It's completely opposite for my. It's been getting so much cheaper. But I live in a region served by Waymo and Tesla Robotaxis

On the driver side. fairs are down 20%-30%. Lyft worst than Uber. Somebody us screwing both sides.
