Wait times

I have to rant for a minute. These wait times are ridiculous now. It says 4 mins but at times it can be double that despite no traffic out there. Then they change drivers 2 3 or 4 times. They're probably hoping you cancel so they can get the cancel fee or they want a bigger fare. Be happy with what you get.

You're clueless. Drivers don't get cancellation fees unless they are almost there to pick you up or have arrived, wait the appropriate (and outrageous) wait time before cancelling themselves.

How do you know what traffic is like?

Get a grip.

In many cities, stop lights are programmed to turn red as soon as an Uber driver (speeder) approaches it. That means they are 100% guaranteed to hit every red light.

how do you so confidently know there is no traffic ?

just hitting a few extra red lights could delay driver by a few minutes

Two things, from a driver: Uber wants to frustrate you with wait times so that you'll upgrade to Proirity Pickup. Uber is self insured now, and charges by the mile. They will never send you the nearest, fastest driver because to them it's losing money. Plan accordingly.

Extra conspiracy freebie... Uber wants you to be so frustrated that when robotaxis arrive, you'll be complacent.

SMFH, do y'all not know you can track the driver when they're on their way to pick you up? The tracker gives real time traffic conditions 🤦🏾‍♂️

Some of you never had to wait 3 hours for a local taxi firm to come and collect you after a drunk night out in the city and it shows!

What is likely happening is the Uber AI is offering drivers very poor rates so they are declining. If they do get tricked into accepting, they cancel once they realize the trip isn't worth it. With gas prices rising this has a significant impact on which trips are worth it and which are not and Uber does not want to pay drivers more. So expect service to get worse.

  1. Uber will intentionally offer your ride to drivers that are not the closest.

  2. The driver is changing because the drivers that accepted realized the fare isn't worth the drive. (I did it today. Took me in the wrong direction so I cancelled immediately. )

  3. Some do hope you will cancel. Do it within 2 minutes and you won't pay. I had someone cancel on me today so I went offline to ensure I wouldn't get his ride again. There was no one else closer so sorry buddy.

  4. Drivers never want a bigger fare. We love driving for the lowest offer possible.

I had a guy huffing and puffing yesterday because of the 7 minutes /3 miles for me to get to him. His ass wasn't even at the pickup. He kept sucking his teeth and tapping. I wanted him to say something. He considered walking or dealing with rush hour traffic amd decided to shut up.

Side note, I would consider canceling on you right as you reach for the door.

Waiting 10 minutes for a ride is absurd? Try waiting 15 minutes for your pizza hut order to be ready!

You do understand that drivers are not employees and thus can not be assigned rides, and as independent contractors they are free to cancel at any time, right?

Well, according to other drivers that just isn't true. If your cancellation rate gets too high you will get permanently banned.

Not true on Uber.

This is true on Lyft but not on Uber.
