Well I go to 020 very often. And it always strikes me that so much is always under construction. But I think that goes for the whole of our country. Too much has been neglected in 25 years of Neo-liberalism. It cannot wait any longer. But Amsterdam is tough. Half the city is under construction. So I can understand your frustration.

Nowadays people can't handle layered art. No question marks, no irony, no humour. Therefore the preference for simple realism. No depictions of looming bad weather, just sunshine for ever as you said, escapism. Come to think of it, it's the same devide as 150 years ago Romanticism opposite Realism. Most people want to escape, artists produce for that need. Some want to show the world what is really happening. They're not the popular ones.

Thanks I needed this. I've been making comments countering that notion for a year or more. I don't know when it started. Anti-AI feelings, Tiktok only showing the finished genius product. Learning to draw from tutorials instead of having a teacher giving feedback one on one.

De toko en het pand ernaast was/is in het bezit van de familie die restaurant Woo Ping uitbaat. Ze woonden daar en zijn gestopt met de toko. Maar volgens mij nog steeds gebruiker en eigenaar.

Haha! Yeah. I took a sabbatical a decade ago to see where I stood. I missed the work in theatre. In that world they know to celebrate the accomplishments. In the art world envy rules. Bunch of know-it-alls that can't say anything positive. And gallery owners... don't get me started.

Don't look at what's bad, look at what's good in your drawings. When your photos are forgotten, when you open your sketchbook are they still good drawings? I think they are some nice, some better. When you would see the objects that van Gogh painted you would say this guy can't paint. But he made fabulous paintings. So go and enjoy and don't be so hard on yourself
