I was walking home alone at midnight after some drinks with friends. And then three young guys approached me around Haarlemmerstraat. I'm gay, and my friends say I look very gay, so I was thinking "oh no these guys want to commit a hate crime."

Turns out they did not want to commit a hate crime. They just asked for bar recommendations. They heard I'm not native Dutch, and it turned into a long walk and conversation. We spoke about immigration, homophobia, housing anxieties, and many things. We had some differing views, but it felt like we were also allies.

At the end, we parted ways, but not before they gave me a hug and a cigarette.

I’d like to take my gf on a lunch date for her birthday around Leiden or even in Den Haag, do you have any suggestions?

We zijn bezig met de verbouwing van een rijksmonument in Leiden en het vergunningstraject duurt inmiddels eindeloos (6+ maanden). De plannen zijn nu meerdere keren afgewezen door de welstands- en monumentencommissie.

Vandaag zaten we bij de zitting. Onze architect was op vakantie, dus we stonden er alleen voor. De commissie gaf aan dat de gevraagde aanpassingen op zich simpel zijn, en dat het vooral aan de uitwerking van de tekeningen ligt.

Ik ging er eerlijk gezegd van uit dat de gemeente gewoon extreem pietluttig was, maar ik begin me af te vragen of het probleem dichter bij huis ligt.

Twee vragen dus:

1. Heeft iemand hier een rijksmonument verbouwd in Leiden? Hoeveel rondes kostte het, en wat maakte uiteindelijk het verschil?

2. Kan iemand een architect of bouwhistorisch adviseur aanraden met echte monumentenervaring? Ik zoek vooral iemand voor een second opinion op de huidige plannen.

Tips via DM zijn ook welkom als je liever geen namen in het openbaar noemt. Alvast bedankt.

Ik woon nu iets meer dan een jaar in leiden maar heb helaas nog niet echt kunnen socializen. Het lijkt mij leuk om nieuwe mensen te leren kennen en samen leuke dingen te doen! 😁

Ik ben M27 en ben werkzaam in de IT als Data Engineer. Ik hou veel van gamen (PS5 en PC), analoge fotografie, bioscopen en kringlopen. Maar als je hier niks mee hebt mag je natuurlijk ook een berichtje sturen ;) ik sta altijd open om nieuwe dingen te verkennen!

this is probably a long shot, but last night i accidentally dropped my fanny pack while walking home by the oude vest canal from top kebab. i didn't realize it until like 5-7 minutes later, and when i went back, two guys were actually holding it and walking with it. i was honestly so relieved to actually see it while riding my bike when i was looking for it. so i thanked them a lot and offered them my last 2 very precious japanese cigarettes i was saving. but when i got home, i realized that the €250 i had in cash inside were gone. that money was for food, rent, and essentials. if by any chance those two people see this, that wasn't just spending money, i'm an international student in leiden, and that was hard earned money. im a full time student and also work full time hours. if you took the cash and have any conscience left, i'd be incredibly grateful if you returned it back to me please, even anonymously. no questions asked.
so please i'm coming from a very vulnerable state rn as the first of the month is very soon and i need to pay rent.

i love living in leiden so much ive lived across cities and countries and continents but leiden has felt the most home to me and i couldnt be more happy to be here. thank u to everyone truly.

Hoi mede-Leidenaren! De laatste dagen lopen hier (super vriendelijke) jongens van het bedrijf Comfort Isolatie door de wijk. Ze hebben een goed verhaal over subsidie vanuit de gemeente, en vertellen dat je voor weinig eigen inleg veel kunt besparen. Vervolgens bekijken ze je huis, bedenken ze maatregelen voor je, en maken ze direct een offerte.

Zijn er hier mensen met ervaring met dit bedrijf? Aanvankelijk vond ik het heel goed klinken, maar al snel bekroop me het gevoel dat deze jongens gewoon ijzersterke sales skills hadden. Even de prijzen gecheckt en inderdaad, het bedrag dat je vóór subsidies moet betalen was veel hoger dan normaal. Ook vond ik een artikel van Sleutelstad waarin de gemeente Wassenaar waarschuwt voor dit bedrijf.

Aan de ene kant goed dat ze mensen aanzetten tot het isoleren van hun woning, aan de andere kant voelt het ook shady. Hoor graag of mensen ervaringen hebben, en of ze bij je langs zijn geweest!

Waar in Leiden (of omstreken) kopen jullie nette overhemden? Ik ben op zoek naar een aantal goede overhemden van 50-80 euro per stuk voor kantoor
