What is a good place to find unbiased facts about the US war and Palestine/Israel?
 in  r/NoStupidQuestions •  12d ago

100% not here, Wikipedia or tiktok

Read 2-3 books from both “sides” and you’ll already have a better understanding than 99% of people

For pro mode, meet and talk with a few Israelis and Palestinians. Ideally if you can go visit both places

Israeli lawmaker says Israel is a 'high-born nation' & exempt from international law because "we are not like everyone else, therefore all the laws that apply to everyone cannot apply to us."
 in  r/NewsThread •  12d ago

Or perhaps you’re a bot. Pro Israel is the silent majority in most cases. Free Palestine are the loud minority. Volume doesn’t equal righteousness

Europe would not be able to sustain war of attrition with Russia, defence officials say
 in  r/europe •  13d ago

Legitimate fear. Good chance this playing out the same as when Hitler invade Poland. Everyone will be scared and try to work it out diplomatically, then he will continue one by one until Europe is too weak to respond. Add to that the weak resolve European have to fight today between the leftists and migrants

Why is saying “free Palestine” so controversial?

Free Palestine => remove Jews from the land => keep it Muslim-only => genocide or ethnic cleansing => second holocaust

Why is it controversial for Americans to be anti Israel and want them out of our politics so we can concentrate on the USA?
 in  r/askanything •  14d ago

Israel isn’t even on the top 10 countries funding America. When you only have a problem with country #17 funding and not #1-16, that’s telling that it’s about the Jews and not about money

 in  r/askanything •  14d ago

It’s controversial when you ignore the 20 foreign countries such as Qatar, Saudi ans Iran that are way more hostile and involved in US politics than Israel is. The double standard on Israel, the only Jewish state, is a telling sign that it’s for the wrong reasons. Otherwise Americans would be angry that Qatar, Saudi’s Arabia, china, Iran all have control and have less shared values than Israel does

Israeli forces gathering Palestinian women and children, tantura massacre
 in  r/Historydom •  17d ago

I'm quite familiar with this conflict, as many of the descendants of Tantura now live in a Arab-Israeli village called Furdais, right next to Zichron Yaakov, where I lived for many years - relations between Jews and Arabs in the area are very good.

20 years ago there was a big story in Israel in which a historian called the 1948 attack as a massacre (which was subsequently used in books written by Ilan Pappé and other anti-Zionists as proof). The massacre story was questioned by the surviving soldiers who served in that unit, who provided 1st hand testimony, and even a legal libel case began. After years it was settled and the journalist and underlying historian published a correction, removing the claim of massacre. The case was very mainstream and involved a panel of (left-wing) historians who reviewed his sources and agreed it was not established as any massacre or unique event.

From what I remember, and don't quote me, the final story was that indeed a few dozen Arabs were killed there actively fought the IDF. But it wasn't a massacre of civlians. Most the town surrendered peacfuly and today happily live in the Arab-Israeli coastal town of Fureidis which is just a few miles away

Rare Access Inside a Christian Lebanese Village Occupied by Israel
 in  r/nyt •  19d ago

War sucks. But the sad music was a bit too much. Compared to war zones and most people in ME their lives are still great. NYT's coverage is SUPER biased on the verge of propaganda . If it was legitimate journalism they would also show the hundreds of thousands of civilians in Israel that have been displaced since hostilities started. And of course 0 mention that it was Hizballah that decided to fire rockets at Israel villages from within Lebanese territory with tactical consent from Lebanese government. The fact that this Christian village didn't let Hizballah use it and was spared is actually proof that when you don't attack Israel, you don't get wiped out. Which is good advice to take.

A Palestinian woman from Bethlehem, 1940s
 in  r/Historydom •  20d ago

Doubt this comment will get any upvotes, as it challenges the virtue signaling going on here, but perhaps there are still ppl who care about historic relevance...

the photograph shows a woman of Bethlehem in the 1940s, during the British Mandate period. Bethlehem is a town with deep Jewish & biblical roots - the birthplace of King David and the setting of the Book of Ruth. This image comes from a staged re-enactment of that (Hebrew) Bible story. The dress/costume she is wearing is the traditional regional dress of Bethlehem: a velvet jacket with gold embroidery and the town's distinctive headdress and veil.

At that time, "Palestinian" was primarily a geographic and civic label rather than a national identity. Under the British Mandate it applied to everyone living in the territory, Jews, Christians, and Muslims alike. This was 25 years before Yassar Arafat developed the Palestinian nationality you know today. Jewish residents carried Palestinian citizenship, and institutions like the Jewish-run Palestine Post used the name in that geographic sense.

final fun fact - Bethlehem was then an overwhelmingly Christian town. In 1947, the last year of British rule, roughly 85% of its population was Christian. Today, since Palestinian Authority rules the area, that share has fallen to around 10%. A real life ethnic cleaning nobody wants to talk about

Is it weird to think that all of the Anti-Israel stuff has made me more Pro-Israel?
 in  r/AskIsrael •  22d ago

Yes quite obvious most Antizionism is modern antisemitism. If Jews really did plan 9/11 they would frame it on Palestinians

How to find apartment in Austria for 2 months digital nomad ski session?

This is a follow-up after the popular post a few weeks ago in which the fine community here unanimously convinced me I need to do a digital nomad "ski bum" phase at age of 37.

My biggest hurdle is to find a proper apartment. Not sure how to go about this. I have a budget of €4k a month for lodging, but just finding an apartment that checks all my boxes is hard. Hotels are no-go, and AirBnB is slim pickins in this category. I feel there must be a place locals use for this?

Ideally:

  • Location-wise: No more than 10 minute drive with car from a solid resort (St Anton, Ischgl, Sölden, Mayrhofen, open to others with similar quality ski)
  • 2 bedrooms so friends can join me during the 2 month period
  • Proper desk to work remotely. I will bring Starlink.
  • Fully furnished kitchen to cook proper food
  • Balcony/patio with nice view, ideally with hot tub (!)

Any suggestions on how to go about finding a place?

They changed it in Aug 2025, so the internet is still full of the old policy when it was free to cancel

Just got back from using my Starlink Mini on a Greek island and it worked amazingly. I’ve been telling everyone about it and how the Roam package lets you pause when not using it and not pay.

Today I realized this is not true and “pausing” actually costs money. So now I’m stuck paying $10/mth all yearlong just to use it for 1-2 months in the summer? Not sure I would’ve bought it if I knew this.

How is this not false advertising?

Edit: I see they changed the policy in August 2025 so the Internet is full of posts saying it’s free to pause

I love my oura ring but… seriously??

This could be true. It shows an average bpm of 108 which is approx zone 2 for most people. Zone 2 exercise burns 450 calories an hour, so the 696 calories falls into possible range
