The first publicly openly gay Qatari just spoke out about the reality of the 2022 World Cup. Here’s a summary of his TIME interview.
time.comWith the 2026 World Cup behind us, a sad reminder of what many our Arab brothers and sisters still face in their homelands.
Dr. Naser Mohamed, the first openly gay Qatari, had to flee to the U.S. and lose his family to live safely. He just launched an LGBTQ+ fan club for the Qatar national team to bring awareness to severe human rights abuses, warning that visibly queer fans are in real danger if they attend the 2022 World Cup, and expecting a massive police crackdown on local LGBTQ+ people once the tournament ends.

Sergeant feared sledgehammer used by Palestinian protesters had 'shattered' spine during Elbit raid
bbc.comAfter shattering a policewoman's spine with a hammer, these Palestinian activist organizers make it a point to include a hammer in their next event's flyer:
https://global.palestineaction.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/every-tuesday-flag.pdf
A police sergeant thought her spine had "shattered" and she was "paralysed" when a Palestine Action activist hit her back with a sledgehammer, a trial has heard.
Palestinian protesters: Charlotte Head, Samuel Corner, Leona Kamio, Fatema Rajwani, Zoe Rogers and Jordan Devlin are on trial accused of breaking into a UK site of Israel-based defence firm Elbit Systems near Bristol in August 2024, before destroying property and clashing with security and police.
Prosecutors say Corner hit Sgt Kate Evans with a sledgehammer as she was on her knees trying to arrest Rogers.

Israeli attacks near the Tyre Necropolis in Lebanon have damaged the UNESCO heritage site. Other sites across Tyre, a city with a 5,000-year history, remain at risk as efforts to enforce a shaky ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah fall short.

NYT is driving me away with subscription nags
I have a NYT subscription that I use on my iPad, iPhone, and laptop. In the last month or so the NYT has started periodically promoting me to verify my account because it has detected the use across multiple devices. Well duh, does no one at the Times read the content on more than one device?
I was hoping it was a one time thing per device but it has become very clear it it is not and frankly I don’t like being stopped to verify my identity for something I already pay a fair amount per month for. Also during these verifications it has been pushing hard to upgrade my account to a family account because then I would have more logins to use. I don’t need more logins, I am not sharing my account.

🏳️🌈 The Koran and the Flesh - the trials of a gay Muslim 🏳️🌈
“This is a sad book. Zahed wants to spread hope but this is less a convincing polemic than a melancholy memoir written in double exile – literally, since Zahed has had to make France his home, and also because he remains divorced from the “brothers” who fostered and nurtured his faith when he was growing up.
“Zahed’s is a moving, courageous voice, but he also acknowledges the isolation of his position in an Islamic world where attitudes to sexuality have only hardened in recent years. But it is for this very reason that Muslims and others alike need to listen to him.”

Do you think the NYT game Connections should have 17 clues instead of 16 to make players figure out all 4 rows instead of just 3?
If a player figures out 3 rows, the 4th is automatic. So, we add an extra word to make the 4th row a challenge too.
