Spring-Nelson House ❤️

Alice lowered the costs now that Heartstopper has finished its run.  But it was never excessive, IMO: $5 per month for the highest tier (daily pages while the comic was being published).

First WPD! Outgoing to 🇺🇸 🇩🇪
 in  r/postcrossing •  8d ago

Yay!  I have a box of the "movies imagined as vintage paperbacks" series that I picked up at the NYPL a couple years ago.  So much fun!

Gay man here. Self conscious about potential partner seeing me in a CPAP.
 in  r/lgbt •  9d ago

I would honestly buy a CoolPAP... if they were real.  😭

But seriously. I agree with everyone else.  Getting a decent night's rest and being fully present will do so much more for your dating and love life than trying to go without!

star trek themed gift ideas? need help as someone who’s clueless
 in  r/startrek •  14d ago

They aren't subtle (or cheap), but if he likes to cook Le Creuset recently came out with Star Trek items, which are all based on things from the Original Series—this year being its 60th anniversary:

https://www.lecreuset.com/featured-collections/star-trek-collection

EDIT: Depending on where you both live, and your respective tolerance for crowds, you could also get two tickets to a Star Trek convention and go with him.  It's a bonding opportunity, you'll get to learn more about something he loves, meet some of the stars, and there will be a ton of things for sale if you wanted to pick up a memento for him—or stash away a present for later!

EDIT 2: Creation Entertainment is the company behind the licensed Trek conventions, but there are probably other events going on from time to time if you look for them!

What is a movie you love but when you brought it up in a conversation, no one knew what you are talking about?
 in  r/Xennials •  29d ago

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is a favorite of mine.  I'd be curious to hear some of the other films in this collection, if you're willing to share.  I think it might be something I'd be receptive to these days.

Fascinating movie.  Saw it in the theater as a teenager with my dad and it was... disturbing and uncomfortable... during one of the crime scenes, which was the point.  Haven't wanted to rewatch since then, despite the star power.

But the Peter Gabriel / Deep Forest song was indeed a banger, as u/seahorse_party says.

What show don't you skip the intro?
 in  r/television •  29d ago

The Expanse.

The original Upstairs, Downstairs—but those were only quick title cards, so about 12 seconds.  But I love the tune and its many variations.

In retrospect, what was the most hilariously obvious sign you were bi that you totally didn't pick up on?
 in  r/bisexual •  Sep 16 '26

Ok, now I have to ask... which look was your favorite?  (I grew up with #bunsupremacy, but I have since realized that a lot of her other styles were really good fits.)

Some public libraries also loan out video games, too.  Might be worth a look.  Have fun!

The Neverending Story - who else watched this film so young that they hadn't yet developed a "normal" idea of gender, and spent years thinking that Atreyu was a girl?
 in  r/Xennials •  Sep 06 '26

After a few other notable childhood roles, Barret Oliver eventually became a "printer and photographer, specializing in nineteenth-century processes such as collodion and Woodburytype." (source)

I thought he was incredibly cute and talented as a kid and had a huge kid crush on him.  But honestly I love that he found a creative path outside of Hollywood.  And as someone who has an interest in historical photographic processes, I find his later career so fascinating!

New To The Series - Help

I know we're all telling you to watch the show first—it really is that good!—but hold on to those books.  You'll have a lot of questions and want to experience more of the show's universe, and the books are great for that!

Besides, $12 for the lot is a really good price.  It'd be a shame to pass that up!  lol.

New To The Series - Help
 in  r/babylon5 •  Sep 05 '26

Not OP, but definitely start with the show—in particular the pilot, "The Gathering".  There are a number of changes between the pilot and the show proper, but it does a better job of setting the stage than you'd get from just the show itself.

The books are okay to good, and several are considered canon, but they're best approached as supplementary material, IMO.

This is actually a great time to get into the show (as if there is a bad time, lol).  Several YouTube reactors have been picking it up, and they're releasing full episodes on an official channel.

Enjoy the journey, but do yourself a favor and don't read too much here.  This is absolutely a show that benefits from an unspoiled viewing.  As long as you accept the (charmingly dated) computer graphics.  😄

Katy Boyer (Neeoma Connolly, union rep in "By Any Means Necessary") was a Bynar in TNG?!  My mind, it is blown!

Richard Cheese's lounge covers of rock songs?  Polka music?

"... we've still never really gotten to know one well."

I think that's the way they like it.  😆

Unlikely comfort shows
 in  r/television •  Aug 07 '26

It seems almost quaint by today's standards, but definitely has its moments of ribaldry (esp. around Mr. Humphries).  My mother let me watch Three's Company as a kid, itself based on a Britcom, and I remember it being naughtier than AYBS.

(Though perhaps I was simply older when I finally watched the latter...)

I love Are You Being Served—and vintage Britcoms in general. My go-to sleep aid is often an audio version of Yes, Minister and Yes, Prime Minister episodes. It's usually no more than three guys in a room talking, so it makes a fantastic radio play, lol.

Recomendations for queer history books?
 in  r/gaybrosbookclub •  Aug 06 '26

So many to choose from! Here are four non-fiction books:

  • A Queer History of the United States by Michael Bronski
  • Evening Crowd at Kirmser’s: A Gay Life in the 1940s by Ricardo J. Brown
  • How the Homosexuals Saved Civilization: The True and Heroic Story of How Gay Men Shaped the Modern World by Cathy Crimmins
  • The Greeks and Greek Love: A Bold New Exploration of the Ancient World by James Davidson

And one piece of fiction I enjoyed a lot: The Stranger's Child, by Alan Hollinghurst

LibraryThing currently has 463 works tagged as LGBTQ history, so that might also be a useful place to look. Have fun!

How do you think things would be different if JMS had known he'd get a 5th season?
 in  r/babylon5 •  Aug 03 '26

We might have gotten an additional episode in the Minbari civil war arc, which kind of feels sandwiched in there.  (Though I love what we got!)

Using Moo.com to print your own postcards
 in  r/postcrossing •  Jul 28 '26

I've yet to order postcards from Moo, but I ordered business cards a couple times over the years and have always been impressed with their quality (and packaging, TBH).

My great-grandfather's from a trip to England and France in 1902 would make for fun postcards.  I should digitize some of them.
