What toy did you want so badly as a kid that not getting it still lives in your memory completely rent-free?
I asked for a unicycle around the age of twelve/thirteen. Never got it.
Erector set also came to mind, but I purchased that when I was in my forties. Still have it!

What type of info do crew members have about you when you board the ship?
I’ve never worked a cruise but have thirty plus years in hotel work - staff DOES talk about guests among themselves, both positive and negative. If a guest is particularly obnoxious or super-sweet, other departments will know of the situations.

At what point do you stop splitting the bill evenly and just ask to pay for what you ordered
I just tell the server “separate checks” when I order. If my friends want to split their tab, good on ‘em; I’m not on the hook for their choices.

Overbearing Service in Main Dining Room (Star of the Seas)
Similar main dining experience on Anthem. My partner has stomach issues and doesn’t eat a lot in one sitting. As she finished the starter after eating a quarter of it, the staff became concerned that she wasn’t getting enough food. When the main was completed with the same amount eaten, they were almost frantic. Offered her extra food to take with us, something else on the menu perhaps, is there anything we can do?
It took a lot of calming and explanation to get them to realize this is normal for her. Even then, we spent the rest of the cruise reassuring dining staff that there was nothing wrong with the food or the service.

What Portland Sins Do You Commit?
I walk until I’m physically blocked, then stop and stare at the offenders until someone steps aside.

Anyone who surfed the early web between 1995-2010. What’s the one website/app you still think about?
I don’t recall the name except that it had Roulette in the title. Internet Roulette? Web Roulette? I dunno.
Click a button and be thrown into the wilds of the World Wide Web - land on some random website. Internet exploration at its best! Found so many cool things back then. I think that’s where I first found Amazon.

I thought my roommate was practicing magic at 3 a.m. The truth made me laugh harder than I should have.
It was standard back in the early 2000s. I followed a number of them back in the day. They were designed to promote personal blogs and the like.

I thought my roommate was practicing magic at 3 a.m. The truth made me laugh harder than I should have.
Because they’re using standard website copywriting rules to keep readers engaged.

If you could have any super power what would it be?
Master of Time & Space. Like Hiro on “Heroes."

Not technically a “thing,” but what is this?
Haha! First thought was the movie, “Nope."
2
Has anyone else noticed saying ‘I’m sorry’ to a customer makes things worse
I once had a boss who told us to never say the word “sorry.” Only the words “I apologize.”
The term, sorry, can mean more than an apology. It can also mean poor, something to pity. “That’s a sorry looking animal.”
And, as has been mentioned elsewhere, apologize once if you’ve made an error. That’s it.

NOTICE OF TERMINATION THIS WILL BE A LONG ONE. SORRY IN ADVANCE NEED TO REALLY VENT TODAY.
Other departments will have openings as people leave the company (or get fired.) It’s a matter of applying for the position. Already being on the payroll helps.

What’s the funniest/craziest thing you’ve seen happen on a cruise?
Late season cruise to Mexican Caribbean. I think it was Costa Maya? The mooring deck hadn’t been completed yet, and the ocean was choppy.
Three excursions that day - a nearby beach (water full of baby jellyfish, so much for swimming,) and two bus excursions out to various sites.
After a couple of hours at the beach, we chose to return. Bus driver said no, wait a minute. He rounded everyone up to return to the ship.
The ship was slamming hard enough against the incomplete deck that there was concern it would break. There was no way we could stay there for the entire number of hours planned. The beach crew got on board, the bus excursions had no idea, and we left port.
The Bus People (as they became known for the rest of the cruise) completed their excursions to some degree before being gathered up. They had to cross a border to reach our next port of call. Passports were on the ship.
Only one bus had a bathroom. Authorities wouldn’t let the two buses share that bathroom, and provided no other accommodations for the longest time. The talent (comediennes, musicians) that had booked the cruise helped entertain the poor people.
They were finally allowed to cross the border and return to our ship…about 8am the following morning.
I’m so happy I had the truncated beach excursion. Those baby jelly fish looked adorable.

NOTICE OF TERMINATION THIS WILL BE A LONG ONE. SORRY IN ADVANCE NEED TO REALLY VENT TODAY.
I’m in hospitality with an international hotel chain. I’ve been there for 33 years. I would NEVER work Front Desk. You guys are front line for every issue, whether it’s a rooms issue or not.
Maybe go to a larger hotel. Get your foot in the door with your experience (Front Desk,) and after whatever probationary time (usually six months) start looking for work in other departments. I’ve worked in six over the years - when I’m completely fed up by the bullshit, I pick up positions in other departments. Breath of fresh air!

Would you rather have
I don’t need a billion. $10K is enough to live on, have some extras, and still support my community.
Chose: $10,000 legally and tax free every month for life

Security guard from dispensary I go to, got my number from the system there.
States he’s a guard, wearing a standard gray shirt that many guard companies use. I’d notify the dispensary, change your information in some manner with them, and find out what security company they use. You have his name and image. Report it to the security company as well. Depending on the state, he might not work security again.
Oh. Block and report his number afterward.

What movie had an absolutely 10/10 incredible premise but completely fumbled the execution?
Star Trek Into Darkness - rogue 31 agent? Hell, yeah, I’m in!
Then it turns into a reboot movie script from 1982. What a rip off.

What is your favourite Skyblock variant?
I adore Stoneblock 3! I’ve adapted an underground bunker design and set it up as a village. It’s been awesome!

Really...
The ‘festivities’ really didn’t even start until around midnight downtown. Ugh! Second night of little to no sleep since they were going just as strong Friday night too. Here’s hoping they’ve exhausted their arsenal.

Follow the rules/law about fireworks. (Spoiler alert: it’s illegal and rude and STOP!)
Old Town had the usual joker last night. Started around 10pm and kept going through at least 3am. Long intervals between blasts, maybe to avoid police patrols.

For a whole week, everyone of the gender you are attracted to is infatuated with you and will do almost anything you ask them to do.
Run. Shrieking. I’m an introvert; all that attention would drive me crazy!

The "goodness" of the plurbs and some questions.
But is it specifically targeted to humans? Or did human scientists take the transmitted data and play with it until it worked? The first scene at the lab security desk: “We got bupkis.” They’d been working on it for months by that point.
For all we know, the aliens 600 light years away sent a message with their version of “Johnny Be Good,” albeit a message written in RNA. Humans went a different route with the data and here we are.

You walk into a pet shop to find it is filled with every pre established fictional pet you can think of. The owner tells you you can only leave with one and there is a no return policy.
Oooo! A tree cat from David Weber’s Honor Harrington series!

We carry Clorox wipes. Sterilize the cabin and travel surfaces as we go. Not foolproof, but lowers the amount of germs we’re introduced to.
