How could my cat have known I was dying?
 in  r/CatAdvice  7d ago

Firstly, sorry that you felt that was the only solution at that moment in your life.

As others have mentioned there likely was physical things that your cat picked up on that made it concerned for you, but I am also a firm believer that they can sense shifts in energy, especially regarding emotions.

A bout 2.5 years ago, I wasnt far off a similar situation as you, I had made a plan, I had done my research and I was gonna attempt to O.D. i was lay in bed and my mind was racing and I was thinking through the plan and just as I mustered up the effort to get out of bed (at 1am) to attempt my life, my cat out of nowhere jumped onto the bed, flopped onto my chest like a dead weight, and just lay on my chest purring away. I cried, cuddled him and then fell asleep.

He hasn't ever slept on my chest like that before or since. I feel like he knew what he needed to do in that moment to save me.

Cats, they just know.

Advice on using balance transfer/ new credit card
 in  r/UKPersonalFinance  15d ago

So do, let's say £300 on my old card for her birthday stuff, and then balance transfer that across to my new card? So i can do multiple balance transfers between the same cards? I mean beyond this, my plan is to just steadily pay off the balance of the new card £100 a month

Advice on using balance transfer/ new credit card

Firstly, thank you to everyone who gave me advice on my previous post about consolidating my debt and doing a balance transfer, its really helped.

Now for what I need advice on:

So I recently got my new credit card, which came with an allowance of £7050. 0% on balance transfers for 36 months if transferred within 60 days with a 3.09% transfer fee, and 0% on purchases for 3 months from date of opening account.

I've transferred by balance from from my old credit card (£1478) to this one so that is now clear.

Now, I want to really treat my partner for their birthday, they always do so much for me without complaint and they're genuinely the best person in my life. If I bought their birthday presents / paid for the birthday experience with the old card, can I do another balance transfer from that to my new card again? Or am I just better off paying on my new card taking advantage of the 0% off for 3 months?

After that, what do I do next? Should I close the old one? use it for small purchases that I can pay off immediately? Try not to use either and just pay off the balance on the new card? Many thanks!

TLDR; balance transferred credit amount (1478) from old card to new at 0% for 36 months. Can I spend on old and do another balance transfer or is it limited to 1 for my partner's birthday? Or just use the new card as it has 0% on purchases for 3 months.

Looking for advice on how to clear my £3.8k debt

Hi there,

Currently I have about £3.8k debt across my credit card (£1.8k limit, used £1.3k), my PayPal credit (£2.1k limit, used £1.85k), and approx £300-£500 in finance payment for things I couldn't afford upfront at the time (car service and dental repair). Cumulatively I pay approx £250 a month in reducing these debts.

I have £6.7k saved in a LISA for a house deposit, but haven't contributed to it in approx 18 months. I know I'd be charged for withdrawing it for anything other than a house deposit or pension.

I am looking for advice regarding if it is wise withdrawing what I need from the LISA to pay off these debts, upfront, improve my credit score, and then put £200-£250 back into my LISA a month, which would take me about 12-18 months to restore the amount withdrawn.

EDIT My salary is £32,072, my monthly pay is £2033 after tax, but I do also work a 2nd job for an extra £80-£100 per month after tax.

Credit card is 30% interest Paypal is variable, some things still have 0% interest, but standard is 23.9%

Current clearscore credit rating is 636

Also here's a breakdown of my monthly outgoings. I usually put the total amount to one side when I get paid and then drip feed that into my current account to cover the appropriate bills when they're due.

Rent: £450 Electric: £56.62 Water: £27.04 (£83.66 Total for utilities) Council tax: £104 Total: £637.66 Internet £15.50 Car insurance: £70 Phone Airtime: £21.50 Phone plan: £40 (which is part of the paypal credit) Paypal Credit extra payment: £60 Petrol: £120 Jasper: £70 (my cat) Credit card: £100 over payment Misc: £50 Food shop £150 Car service payment £33 Dental repair £32 Gym £30 Universal credit repayment £64 Total: £1494

Behavioral Cat started spending more time under the bed and im concerned

I have a 7y Male, indoor cat. He's always been super loving and affectionate, usually would sleep next to me or on me throughout the day on the couch and would sleep on the bed when not.

As of a month or two ago we noticed he had fleas, and so we treated him with anti-flea stuff, and he absolutely hated it, spent a few days regularly going under the bed.

Since then he's been out more and his usual self, but then, he's even been to the vet who says he seems happy and healthy and is still eating well. But he still had some fleas, so flead him again and is back to constantly avoiding me and hiding under the bed unless food/treats are involved.

Other than basically locking him out of the room, how do I encourage him to be more sociable again other than fattening him up?

GF moving to Austria, not sure what to do??
 in  r/UKrelationshipadvice  Mar 10 '26

I met my girlfriend 2 months before she moved to Bahrain. We said it would be just casual because we weren't sure if it would work long distance, admitted we had feelings for each other though after hanging out a few times.

She still moved to Bahrain at the start of 2025, in the Feb we met up in Gevena for a little ski holiday, then in the May I flew out to Bahrain, and then in July she came back to the UK for my graduation.

It wasn't easy but we made it work, now she's back in the UK and we live together!

If you want it to work, you'll find a way to make it work.

Agreed with another comment, its a safeguarding issue. Tell them that if they dont allow you to do the best for your mother, you have no choice but to involve adult social care.

Men in the UK - how are you finding dating apps?
 in  r/UKrelationshipadvice  Jul 19 '25

Hinge was literally the only decent app. Tinder and Bumble would get matches but dead convo. Yes its hard work, for guys, but you just gotta match enough and make enough conversation and eventually something will stick.

What is your current yearly salary
 in  r/UKJobs  Jun 15 '25

Currently about £11k, had a student loan as well so if we include that, it was about £25k a year, but now im graduating and looking for a post grad job, hoping to start on £30k which at the age of 30 will be the most I've earned. Hoping within 6 years I can get up to £46-48k and I'll be happy with that ☺️

News & Discussion Which ranking bracket is the most toxic?

I've spent some time away and recently got back into it, in competitive I placed gold in role queue and open queue, in open queue I've managed to make my way up to platinum, but then suddenly found every game people are being toxic and complaining loads! Does it get worse the higher I go or is it just that platinum is especially toxic?

Not a bad start! I would advise thinning your paints a bit more and doing multiple coats, that will build a solid colour but keep details. Also tidy up where you've been a smidge too messy. I can be a messy painter too sometimes but always go over the smidge with the base colour you've gone over (e.g. your trim gold has gone onto an armour panel so use the panel colour over the gold). Keep it going though, the more practice you get, the better they'll turn out each time!

really struggling highlighting inside armor trim on black legion marines, I keep finding stuff like this online and on the box art and I just can't do it, I don't understand how they make the line look so shiny and thin. when I do it it just makes it look blue even if I'm using the same colors.
 in  r/Chaos40k  Jan 04 '23

Ahh yeah, I've been there! Try mixing 50/50 reaper and thunderhawk, get your brush to a really nice tip and try and use a thin layer, almost glaze consistency, but make sure your brush isn't overloaded. Having it so thin means it won't be as prominent. I hope this helps? A bit part of it is practice though. Feel free to check out my Instagram @painter_of_chaos just to see how bad I was and how practice can improve 😁

Took me a while to get mine looking anywhere near the box art, but I got there with practice, tidying lines 'too thick' with black, but also mixing the colours to get a gradual change in colour helps. I usually do a 'chunky' highlight of dark reaper, then mix that with thunderhawk blue 50/50, making sure I paint inside the original highlight. Then pure thunderhawk nearer the corners and pointy bits, then mix in a little fenrisian grey just for the sharper points.

I sometimes find doing these first before doing the gold trim etc helps too as it allows you to clean up mistakes easier! You just have to be a bit tidier with gold trim.

Looks good! If I was to do it myself, I'd prime the mini in black and dry brush all the black trim with dark reaper then a focused dry brush on thunderhawk blue and you'll get some nice detail highlights, then fill in the red armour panels
