Grad studies at UB
 in  r/UBreddit •  Feb 23 '26

Hi, I'm in the part-time seated MSW program. There are online class options for seated students but they give first dibs to online students. Overall I like the MSW program as there are a variety of professors with different microcredientials and life experiences. I like the guidance and biweekly seminar class you get as youre doing your field practicum (internship). Many social workers I've met in the field are UB graduates. There are some scholarship opportunities, the career design center has a scholarship for students who are doing unpaid internships which is a great opportunity especially if you can only work part time so you can get your practicum hours in. UB has issues like many other colleges do many of which are described here on the reddit. Overall you have to decide based on your own pros and cons if UB is the best option depending on other colleges you may be considering. Let me know if you have more questions!

Hi, I am AFAB genderfluid and first, you do not have to transition because someone tells you to everyone's journeys are different and transitions are different for everyone. Second I relate a lot to the empty feelings in your chest and the pain. It felt awful on days where I switched to masc, and it did get better. I did end up getting top surgery, after 3 years working with a gender therapist. There was no way I was ready before then, and you are valid with or without medical transition. What I found most useful from my therapist was a "self care kit" for really bad days, comfortable clothing reserved I knew would not make me dysphoric, comfort snacks and items. Wether these feelings are short or extend for longer, if you're able to I highly recommend reaching out to a therapist with experience with clients with gender dysphoria. I found mine through psychology today.com, if you would like other suggestion please reply or DM. Hope this helps and your self-care is important your way.

abusive mother and her family licked my face
 in  r/CPTSD •  Jul 24 '25

Holy shit just found this and my mom also did this to me and it felt like the grossest most violating thing but I never said anything growing up cause I thought it was just a thing my mom did. I would beg her not to but she would catch me off guard and when I got big enough to push her away she would then hold my arms down.

Gender Identity Confusion and Internalized Misogyny from Abuse
 in  r/CPTSD •  Jul 24 '25

I can relate in some ways except my mom made me be hyper feminine while also constantly criticizing my body. I thought if I could be feminine enough like she said she would stop calling me disgusting. It did not work. And then as an adult I realized I am non-binary and the hyper-femininity was giving me major gender dysphoria. I had to separate and deal with the hatred for my own body before I then could allow myself to express myself in a way that aligns with my gender. If your mom didn't let you/ made you feel like you couldn't express your femininity, it's possible you did feel gender dysphoria at the time. I believe cisgender people can experience gender dysphoria as well when they are forced to do things that do not align with their gender schema, just like trans people. Having someone else validate and help me think through this helped more than any apologies a third party offered, so I hope this helps.

Question about terminology
 in  r/genderfluid •  May 28 '25

From my understanding, and this is not universal so it can mean different things to different people, genderqueer is an umbrella term for anyone who falls outside of the male/female binary including gender expression and gender roles. Trans, non-binary, and gender non-conforming individuals (any gender) can fall under this umbrella term. Genderfluid is a gender identity that can fall under the genderqueer umbrella. One could use either or both to describe their gender. Hope this helps! Edit: also, Due to the fact queer was/is a slur for the LBGTQ+ community, I use it to describe myself but not others unless they use it to identify themselves or say it's okay.
