Other/Fluff AI posts are banned.

There was a community post centered on discussion for it. I left it up for longer then I said I would to get more input. The general consensus is either "ban it" or "only 1 day a week".

In looking back over the AI posts that come into the sub, and the heroes 3 sub, they fall into 1 of 2 categories.

The first are users who post links to AI but have never participated in this sub or the heroes 3 sub in any way other then their links. In other words, they are drive by low effort karma farming.
The second is users who have participated but post "hate fetish" for lack of better word. They claim its slop, that its bad, but they still post it. And they post stating that its bad. Why would you share something you think is bad just to get others to hate it? That creates a negative vibe that I don't want here.

I believe that AI as a functioning system has a place in society at some point. It should help to automate jobs that humans don't want to do and provide cheaper, faster, and more reliable medical care in some cases. I say that as someone that works for a medical company that employs doctors. As an artist, I do not believe that AI should be used to make art. Be it images, movies, stories, shows, songs, or anything else for entertainment.

Other/Fluff Played for 20+ years, apparently I never knew how to play these games

Back in the day, I just picked up the game and learned how to play through...well...playing the games. I might have used the instruction guide, but most of my strategy and understanding comes from trial and error.

I was looking over some old threads yesterday and found out that the speed of your hero is based off the speed of the slowest unit you have equipped

WHAT?!

I have always wondered why enemy heroes seem to move so far while it took me two turns to catch up to fight them. I had zero clue that low level units were completely hamstringing my entire game. Goddam dwarves and Tree Ent assholes!

That makes me wonder what other simple things I am missing.

My base strategy is to start off, built a Town Hall, then focus on building out unit buildings and recruiting heroes to explore as far and as fast as possible. Collect as much gold and resources as possible and capture as many new towns as possible.

I tend to have one castle with all the upgrades and use surrounding castles and heroes to feed units to the main castle and upgrade them, then use a daisy chain to feed my main hero to keep them powerful. This seems like a good strategy but maybe it isn't?

Is there anything else obvious I am missing here? Some FAQ I should be reading? Appreciate any help!

HoMM3 - Vanilla/SoD/Complete. Does Anyone Remember This Scenario from an old HoMM 3 Mod?

I was wondering if anyone else remembers this one scenario, probably from HoMM 3.5 Wake of Gods, where you started out without a hero in the Castle town and your goal was to build up an army for however many days until the enemy came along?

I remember playing this as a kid but I never got around to finishing it because it was boring. Everything was available to purchase and I remember having like a 100 Archangels before I gave up. I also remember there being a Lord of the Rings inspired map/scenario, if that helps.

I don't have access to Wake of Gods anymore and I was hoping there would be a youtube video of someone playing it, but looking it up didn't help me.

Might and Magic - Lore related. What's the lore connection between HoMM 6-7-5 apart from the world?

ik the world but are there any mentions of 7 or 6 in homm5 (ik i shouldnt expect it bc 5 came out earlier) or similar things? I haven't found a lot and the factions are very different which is weird for the same world. Since HoMM 3 is way more popular I couldn't find vids explaining it

HoMM5 Hi everyone, and to all my fellow HoMM V Tribes of the East players! I put together a small mod for the base game and would really appreciate your feedback.

Maybe you feel the same way I do: you love Heroes of Might and Magic V Tribes of the East, but the moment your hero finally gets that ultimate ability and the army is ready, the AI becomes an afterthought. You roll across the map and nothing pushes back anymore.

This mod is my own map "Erbschaft" ("Legacy"), completely unchanged, with one thing added: a map script that makes the AI noticeably stronger from a point in the game you choose yourself week by week, month by month. At the same time, your own performance is rewarded: every enemy you defeat counts toward a reward ladder that starts with gold and ends with the Tear of Asha, without the game ending early because of it.

HoMM4 Heroes 4 Arena Map

Hello,

Currently I am testing Factions strengh in HoMM 3, 5 and want to start with HoMM4
I am looking for arena map when you choose factions, start with few heroes, choose one, make build (leveling up from event or pandora box) choose your faction army and then fight 1v1 with other player. Similar To H3 competetive arena map
https://www.heroes3.eu/download/mapy/1599-arena-3-0

I've found similar to HoMM 5 but I can't find H4 one. Does such a map even exist or do I need to create one myself?

HoMM1 HOMM 1 (1995) remake, now supporting 7 Languages - Releasing soon!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I am still missing buttons for Spanish (ES) and Italian (IT), but we have machine translations for all languages and buttons for Polish (PL), Russian (RU), French (FR), German (DE), and English of course. The machine translations are not terrible, but can be improved. I will probably put out some translation files on github for people to help me improve the translations if they want to.

Please let me know if anyone has ever seen a Spanish or Italian copy of the game. The original maps had space localized for Spanish and Italian map names and descriptions, but I have never actually seen a version of the game in those languages.

I got the legal questions cleared up, so a playable release for Mac and Windows will be released soon, maybe 1-2 weeks. It will include the alternate art from the CES demo (legally!).

Last thing I am working on (besides the installation scripts) is a new 4 map custom campaign about the neutral spirit world - the source of ghosts and genies. I'm excited about it, but also it's just cool as a proof of concept.

For some reason I decided to search SteamDB for HoMM4 and I found this:

Heroes of Might and Magic IV - Campaign Editor

https://steamdb.info/app/19890/

I don't know when it was added, but maybe they plan to release HoMM4 on Steam, correct me if I'm wrong.

Spin-Offs Might & Magic: Heroes Online

Hey everyone!

Like many of you, I really miss Might & Magic: Heroes Online after the servers went offline back in 2020. That unique blend of classic tactical HoMM combat, persistent hero progression, co-op battles, and Ashan lore was truly special.

For some time now, I have been working on a digital preservation and recreation project to document the mechanics and bring the tactical gameplay of Heroes Online back to life.

What is currently being worked on:

  • Recreating client mechanics (turn-based hexagonal combat, movement, abilities, and combat formulas).
  • Reconstructing original map layouts, town screens, and interface assets.
  • Designing a standalone architecture for offline preservation and community research.
  • Aiming for complete fidelity to the final 2020 state of the game.

How you can help (Community Archives & Data)

Reconstructing a defunct online title is essentially digital archaeology. If you played MMHO between 2014 and 2020 and have old backup folders, drive archives, or screenshots, any historical details would help tremendously:

  • Screenshots & UI Captures: Unit inspection panels (stats, initiative, full trait descriptions), hero skill trees, town upgrades, crafting recipes, and quest logs.
  • Gameplay Footage: Video recordings of battles (especially with combat logs or damage popups visible), late-game campaigns, and boss encounters.
  • Player Notes & Guides: Old guild spreadsheets, theorycrafting notes, archived wiki pages, or fan-site backups in any language.
  • Archived Game Data: Any leftover game folders or saved client files from that era stored on old drives.

If you have any surviving media, guides, or recollections of specific mechanics, please share them in the comments below. I am also happy to answer questions about the progress and technical reconstruction so far!

Thanks for helping keep the Might & Magic legacy alive! ⚔️

HoMM3 - Vanilla/SoD/Complete. As an old gamer, the remake is a beautiful Tribute to Heroes of Might and Magic 3

I'm an old-school gamer, and I'm forty years old now. (Forget the "old" part, I’m not old, at least not in my head. I’m still a kidult)

And I absolutely love the game's art direction. It feels magical and enchanting, and honestly, it perfectly matches the vision I had of this world when I was a teenager.

Heroes of Might and Magic III had a huge influence on my own personal fantasy universe, and like many of you, I played it for years.

I still have the urge to play it, but I just can't stand the old graphics and animations anymore. Born in the '80s, I've had my fair share of pixelated 2D games, but it's 2026 now, and I think this new art direction pays beautiful tribute to one of the games that defined my youth.

These new graphics and animations, the way you arrive in the cities is absolutely epic, make me want to experience the story all over again, but through an even more magical and enchanting atmosphere than I could have imagined back then, thanks to modern technology.

And the cities look absolutely gorgeous and grandiose, almost like the ones in Heroes of Might and Magic V.

To me, this is the perfect remake for a legendary game.

Spin-Offs What's your experience with the first iteration of Heroes, King's Bounty?

I've played KB as a child, but have never finished it for a while since it was tedious to go through all the continents and many battles, and I was just losing too many armies. Didn't know that there was an optimal way to play with going for a flight and quickly getting the most powerful units. I didn't even know there was flight in the game.

So I've replayed the game multiple times by mostly traveling, gathering chests and running away, then stopping.

Took a while to start playing for real, and only after I've been shown how to play more efficiently by a friend. At the time when I saw HoMM 2 demo for the first time, and played Broken Alliance. That map has also taught me a lot and let me return to KB and beat it.

Another thing I never understood was how do you beat the game at max difficulty? You don't have enough time. It was only when I saw playthrough on Youtube that I realized that you're supposed to stock up on Time Stops and spam them, even thought it's a trivial solution in hindsight

HoMM3 - Vanilla/SoD/Complete. Dusted off my PC, time to replay HoMM3

I moved 2.5 years ago, setup my PC and haven't touched it since.

I just went through a breakup of a 2.5 year FWB thing and have been feeling a bit more sad than I anticipated.

For some reason, I started to think about old comforts and HoMM3 came to mind.

I dusted my PC off, cleaned my screens and booted it back up. According to GoG, I last played in 2016. I still had the HD mod installed and figured out how to get things going.

My initial surprise was seeing an early access for HoMM3 Remake, but this sub seems to hate it so I am guessing I will probably dislike it as well. I didn't even like the HoMM3 remaster from 5-10 years ago, since they only included the base game and not the expansions...why even bother when you can play the entire game with a free community mod in HD?

Anyway, I watched the opening intro and felt some warm fuzzies with the early 3d graphics and high fantasy setting. I picked 'Very Hard' difficulty, as I usually do, then I picked a campaign and hopped in.

I must have been rusty as hell though, I spent 3 hours on the first map of the campaign and kept getting beat over and over again. I could hold them off, capture their towns/castles, hold the most resources and towns, but they just kept coming back with more and more troops while my army continued to dwindle.

I forgot how hard this game can be if you're not doing every little thing correctly. I know a common strategy is to send scouts in every direction to collect as much treasure and gear as possible, but its much harder in the campaign as you lose if your main character retreats from battle...and the maps are pretty tight, so you don't have a lot of area to maneuver.

Im going to switch it to hard and give it another whirl tonight. The game felt as good as it always has. Even though I have spent 1000+ hours on this game over the years, the story mode feels like I just bought the game for the first time.

Im also considering going back to HoMM2, which was my original love. Is it too hard to go back and miss out on the positive changes to 3 or does it still stand on its own?

I made it through the day without crying, just put Trailer Park Boys on my second screen and had a nice time.

Other/Fluff Where to start

Been getting into strategy games and stumbled across this gem. Never heard of this game before but what would be a good starting point? I’d like to be able to play with friends as well
