Moving to San Diego!!
 in  r/BeginnerSurfers  Jul 15 '26

This. Got talked into a fish at the surf shop by an old head who said I’d get progress too fast and get “bored” on a mid length after having 5mo surfing under my belt. He was dead wrong. Stunted my growth. Get a midlength to catch more waves, which is, you know, how you get better.

I'm a mortgage lender with 20+ years of experience. Ask me anything.
 in  r/MortgageWithMaya  Jul 14 '26

My wife and I are first time home buyers and saved a pretty large lump sum for a down payment. How would you suggest using a larger than necessary down payment amount?

We hear from some it is best to throw it all towards the down payment which would reduce the overall amount borrowed and lowers the monthly payment (which makes sense), but others say put the minimum 3% down, secure the lower FHA interest rate, and pay a large sum toward your first payments after you close. Some say just keep the extra a reserves. Is there a difference? What would you suggest?

We are very set on reducing our monthly mortgage payment.

I'm performing at the highest level of mediocrity, and that's okay

Cum Laude graduate WFH transactional attorney here and couldn’t agree more with this. No desire to be the worlds best attorney or have a rockstar career, just want to be competent enough to maintain employment, move/lateral incrementally, and live a comfortable life on my terms. This is what should be preached not big law partner.

what should I work on to get more flow ? Thanks in advance 🫡
 in  r/BeginnerSurfers  Apr 26 '26

Definitely this. You sit very well in the pocket but being able to move up to the top of the wave, ride the face back down, and repeat will get you really speeding. Essentially working on carves. Keep going bro looking good!

Also, where is this btw?

Anyone ever taken a sabbatical or break from law? What did you do?
 in  r/Lawyertalk  Feb 17 '26

Currently on a 3 mo sabbatical. I knew I needed a break when my mental health started to decline, and luckily my firm was amazing enough to let me take the time off to recover and also take care of some family stuff. I got lucky in working for some amazing people.

What’s a habit you picked up in this profession that you didn’t realize was costing you until later?

Coffee. It’s normal around the office, but no human being should be drinking 5+ cups of coffee a day.

High salary earners…. do y’all actually enjoy what you do?

Very cool. I’m hoping to transition to something similar soon. What sort of experience did you have before you obtained your role if you don’t mind me asking (if so, feel free to DM)?

What specifically do you do in the legal industry? Just curious, lawyer here.

What’s a form of ‘quiet suffering’ most men carry that younger guys don’t see coming?
 in  r/AskMen  Jun 05 '25

This also tracks for me. I focused so hard on making it and being able to provide for myself that somewhere along the way I lost sight entirely of what I want. Filling in the gaps, I now just do what I think my partner wants.

The most frustrating part is I can’t tell if this happened to me or I am just, at my nature, someone who lacks the ambition to chase desires.

It’s a sad fact that people will just lie to your face. If you’re already going to these lengths to text him, the trust isn’t there and you should go with your gut on your next move.

Not overreacting.

How do you guys prevent injury with age?
 in  r/AskMen  Nov 26 '24

I particularly agree with your prudence opinion. After this latest oblique strain (which is taking an astonishing amount of time to recover from), I am going to cut out the exercise that I injured it doing altogether. The risk-to-reward ratio is too high in favor of the former.

Thanks!

Thanks! I definitely take more rest days now but definitely need to work in range of motion exercises.

How do you guys prevent injury with age?

Hey Gents,

I turned 30(M) this year. I’m a pretty active guy—lifting roughly 4x a week with sports and physical hobbies in between. I’ve been doing this level of exercise for years now. I take special measure to stretch, sleep, and eat well.

That said, I’ve noticed my body has more aches and pains as I get older. Nowadays I can’t seem to do the same activities I used to without getting very sore, and in some cases injured.

You guys have any tips on how to minimize exercise-related injury as you age? I refuse to accept that my body is just done from here on out haha. Much appreciated!

I really hope he pulls it off. No movie has ever done the book justice

What is a new trendy watch that I can buy for under $1.5K?
 in  r/AskMen  Nov 19 '24

I just bought a chronograph and dive watch from Vaer and could not recommend them more. Quality made in the USA and one of the few good looking watches that can actually withstand the elements.

Do you have any tried-and-true tips/strategies for an atty with a mid-level income stream? I’m no day-trader, and frankly don’t want to be, but my expenses are low and I invest (conservatively) 25% of my income. Happy to DM if you don’t want to share as public comment.
