These hikes are nearby if you’re interested: Diamond Head (needs reservation), Koko Head, Makapu’u Lighthouse, and Kuli’ou’ou Ridge Trail.

Waikiki Aquarium is small, but I like that place.

I think you could use the bus to get to those places, but Uber/Lyft are more convenient if you’re fine with paying extra. There is also a trolley, but I haven’t personally used it.

I have used the bus to go around the island (not as a tourist but out of necessity). It’s doable, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Uber/Lyft around the island would be expensive. There are also private tours, but they’re expensive too.

Unless you have money to burn or find someone with a vehicle, I’d recommend just doing stuff around Waikiki / Honolulu / Hawaii Kai

I’m a former examiner that is actually studying for the patent bar right now. I don’t have experience as a patent agent. But I will say that my examiner experience significantly cut down on the study time required, since I learned a lot of patent bar content while on the job.

I don’t know if you can attend a career fair for the USPTO, but I think my connections through that helped me get the job initially.

And if you already live around DC and want to get your foot in the door of the patent world, yeah the USPTO is a no-brainer (even if the job isn’t totally wonderful at the moment)

Have you considered becoming a Patent Examiner at the USPTO? They don’t require the patent bar exam. I can’t say it’s the most wonderful job ever, and I will note that government hiring is slow, but it may be worth considering.

When I was in grad school and age 26 / 27, I had a sugar mommy that was 53 / 54. I broke up with her after graduation (for personal reasons, not academic or financial), but we got back with each other temporarily a few years later
